I’m a writer. An author. An advisor. A former book publisher. My book, Dickless Marketing: Smart Marketing to Women Online, broke barriers and raised eyebrows in 2005 when I wrote and published it. I was so unhappy with the print-on-demand publisher I worked with that I started my own publishing company, Windsor Media Enterprises, LLC. WMEBooks. I worked with dozens of writers to get their stories in print. Talented authors from around the world.  

WMEBooks introduced me to blogging, which introduced me to blogging communities. In 2009, I co-founded a successful online community of pet influencers (bloggers) with my daughter, husband, and another dynamic pet blogger. We called it BlogPaws.

In 2015, I was awarded the title of Woman of the Year in the Women in the Pet Industry Network. It was the most wonderful accolade and highest honor I have ever received! When BlogPaws was acquired by a Fortune 500 company, I returned to my books and my writers.

I'm a speaker, blogger, author, and business professional with 20 years of career and communications experience. I served as president of my local BNI group, president of a local consultants group, and president of Women in Communications - Rochester, NY Chapter.  

My time as an entrepreneur wasn't always easy! I stumbled and fell and sometimes didn’t want to get back up. But I did. And in doing so, I was able to work with some of the most talented women and men in the online space – our playground long before it became what it is today.

I have been focused on raising women's voices and helping them write better, communicate better, and become authors for almost 20 years. I've worked with many talented men, also. I believe we all have a powerful story to tell, and if you are ready to tell yours, I'm the book whisperer for you.

"It will need to be edited and reformatted," we said. 


He looked at us like we were aliens from some far-off galaxy.

He sighed. "I don't think so," he said. 

He took his book and went home. 

This happened many years ago. A man who had written and published a book for grade school teachers approached us to become his publisher. I don't remember why he wanted to switch from his previous publisher to us.

This was in our WME Books days, when we were print-on-demand publishers. 

The book was beautifully done. But it was fraught with errors on every page. I was embarrassed for him that he had published this book and given it to a good many local teachers. 

"None of the people I've given it to has complained about errors," he said, defensively. 

I just looked at him - with kindness, I hope. "I don't know why they didn't mention them," I said. "But look here..." and I showed him several errors, editing, spelling, and even grammar. 

He just shook his head and said, "I don't want it edited. I just want it published."

And so, he left with his book. We stayed behind empty-handed, but true to our purpose.

Then, as now, we are committed to producing books that matter. But these books need proper editing and review. They need to be just as good as any traditionally published book on the market.

We lost a client that day, but we kept our integrity. 

That is most important. It's not the money that drives us. It's the excellence in the writing and production of a good book. 

(yes, we know typos creep through sometimes, even in traditionally published books, but we also know we can fix ours at any time, and they cannot)

I'm thankful for my life.

I'm thankful for every day. No matter how I feel, good or bad, I'm thankful I am here to experience it. 

I'm thankful for my daughter, who has been bringing me food for weeks now, because I just don't have the energy to cook.

I'm thankful for my daughter in CO, who is rocking her new job in the Pet Sustainability space.

I'm thankful for my son, who calls me and checks in on me, and who was pretty scared when the doctors thought I had a terminal illness. 

I'm so very thankful for Tom Collins . My life would not be where it is today - careerwise, healthwise, happywise, if not for him. 

Tom, all the things that I used to wish I could do over are moot now. Because without them, I would never have met you. 

You have filled my life with love, joy, laughter, and excitement. I treasure our life together.

I will also go out on a limb and say this: YOU DO NOT GET THIS WITH AI-GENERATED CONTENT!

Of course, Tom Collins, wrote about the power of reading in his book 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥 '𝘌𝘮 & 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘱, which is a great read for those who want a better understanding of how reading really empowers our mental and physical health. 

The goal of a writer, no matter what they write, isn't to show how smart they are or how successful they are. It's not to scratch their deep, dark secrets on the page, to make themselves feel better.

It's to ask the reader - subtly - how THEY are doing? It's to create a window into tomorrow by opening the blinds, a little at a time. 

Great literature does not offer easy answers - Dickens was almost cruel in his depictions of the harsh life of the poor. Brontë brought us to tears in 𝘑𝘢𝘯𝘦 𝘌𝘺𝘳𝘦. 

Shelley challenged our beliefs in the human condition in 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘪𝘯. 

To write great works, not necessarily literature, as many of you are writing business books, first requires you to take yourself out of the equation.

Storytelling As Therapy: The Role Of Literature In Mental Health And Emotional Growth

Becoming a published author is a powerful feeling. 


As this image demonstrates, it takes being fearless to become "the author of."

Fearlessness in writing the stories your readers need to hear.

Fearlessness in being open and vulnerable, willing to bleed a little on the page. 

It takes passion not only for the written word - so many words that reveal who you really are and how you challenged yourself to keep going - but for the act of writing itself.

The act of sitting at your computer and tapping away at the keyboard. Writing, editing, revising, shouting, and crying because you can't get it right. 

You have to be fearless enough to go through the darkness - moments when you just can't find the right words or moments when you feel totally drained and not another word will come. 

Fearless to get up and do it, day after day. Write. Compose. Rewrite. Laugh. Cry. 

Until, with your writing, editing, and marketing team, you have it. You have a book. 

Your book.

Powerful in its existence. 

Write it. It's not going to write itself.

To eat the donut or not to eat the donut.

What say all of you?

As the holidays descend upon us, I wonder...


Are you a wine drinker or a beer drinker?

Or neither?

At the moment, I am neither. 

My palate has changed since starting chemo, and many things I used to like don't taste the same anymore. (but not ice cream, ice cream is still yummy!)

This last round of chemo put me in bed for a week. I'm up now, barely, but for a whole week I could hardly get my feet under me to get a glass of water in the kitchen, which is only a few steps away from my room. 

I watched a few silly horror movies. I like to shout at the TV, "What are you doing? Stop that. The killer is .... oh dear... too late." 

Started watching Law & Order UK. Very interesting. Must use subtitles.

All in all, I am rounding the bend to the finish line, and it can't come soon enough. 

Wine or beer or neither, I raise a glass to all of you who have been on this journey with me.

Once upon a time...


A familiar opening. One now expects a princess or prince. Perhaps a frog. 

Certainly a forest. 

And we know there will be a 'happily ever after' ending. 

Stories are like that. All stories. 

They have an element of expectation where the reader knows when they reach the end, they will be satisfied. 

In all stories, especially fairy tales, the characters represent all of us, not the author of the book. 

A story isn't rhetoric. It's emotion. 

A story isn't here and there and everywhere; it's contained. It's like a rose blossoming, all the petals unfolding as they should. 

A story isn't found in the answer. It's found in the question. 

Once upon a time, you experienced something profound. Something you want to share with the world. 

The story is waiting to be told. And the telling of it has to be about us, the readers, not about you, the teller. 

The story must, in all instances, evoke mystery, expectation, perhaps a little wonder. As in, "I wonder what happens next." Because without that, without the wonder, the story is a stale tale that lies on the floor like dust. 

Stories aren't always easy to tell. You have them, but you can't get them down the way they should be. You lack the right words. Or you know the story you just wrote is dust, but you don't know how to revive it.

I do. That's what I do. Let's do it together. In 2026. Are you ready?

How good is AI really? Is it good enough to effectively mimic me?


No.

No.

No. 

I use AI in my work. Both Word and Grammarly help me with my editing. I am often shouting at the computer because those two tools disagree on commas or how to rephrase a sentence. 

There are times I agree with them and accept their revision. Or part of it. 

The issue for me is voice. The author's voice. 

I was on a website last week that purported to write your book in under 3 weeks, with no help from you. 

Well, maybe an interview. A one or two-hour interview. And then, it would all be AI. Done for you. 

The book would be marketed and promoted heavily, as the company's owner was well-connected, he said. 

I was appalled. More than once on the site, it said, No, you don't have to do any writing. We will write it for you using AI. 

This is my problem. AI can mimic us, but it cannot be us. When I work with my authors, my most important task is to keep their voice alive in the text. 

AI, Grammarly, Word, and other tools purport to know what's best, forever saying, "This would be better written as..." and they rewrite the paragraph to suit what they've been taught is 'good writing.'

The problem is, it's no longer the author's voice.  

Once in a while, their version is better, but for the most part, they are parodying what they've learned elsewhere on the net. They turn content into boring, stiff sentences that sound like an overbearing college professor who just likes to hear himself talk. 

Books are not meant to be written by robots. By trained machinery. By cuckoo birds repeating what they've heard out and about in the forest. 

Books are meant to be written by people. Actual people. In a voice that reflects the emotional connection people have to each other. 

In a voice that respects the value of story. 

That's what I do. I make sure your voice shines through in your book, so your audience will be happy to connect with you.

Beyond the Christmas cookies, what awaits? Are you ready?


The colors and sounds of Christmas and all other holidays that come upon us this time of year are all around us.

The music compels us to be cheerful. 

We look ahead to 2026 with eager eyes.

The earth turns on its axis, and we move along with it, shopping, laughing, making pies and cookies, and all manner of good food.

T. S. Eliot tells us that the new year needs a new voice.

New words. 

New ideas.

A new us. 

It will be a new me, for sure. This week is my last chemo treatment. 🙌🏼🥳🎇

It will be a new you, also. 

But the 'old' you doesn't disappear. The old you is still there. 

The you before 2026, before 2025, before the new millennium, is still there. 

What does that you have to say? Is that you writing the book that will set you apart from your competitors?

Is that you writing the book that will leave your legacy, far longer than anything else you do?

Is that you writing away furiously, in the dark, still a little afraid to come out into the light lest someone....oh gawd!...say something critical or unkind?

Forget worrying about what people will think. There will be detractors. We all have them. I was trolled for weeks back in the early days of my print-on-demand publishing company. 

But I didn't quit. I kept on.

You need to keep on. Write. Be focused on why you're writing and how your book will influence and help others.

That's what I do best - help you with that part. And then, Tom turns your work into a beautiful book you can use to further your thought leadership for years to come.

Bring that book out into the light of day for 2026.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful...


That's how it is this time of year.

It makes one glad she works from home.

It's also prime weather time for writing. 

If you're stuck at home enjoying a snow day (yours or your kids'), this is a perfect time to start writing.

Don't fret about how to write. 

Don't fret about what to write.

Don't fret about writing a whole book of 200 pages - good grief, that would stymie anyone!

Just sit down at your computer, or with pen and paper, and write.

Tell the story. You have so many. Write the one down where...this or that happened, and it made you so angry because it was wrong, just wrong! And somehow you put it right.

Write the story about the joy you felt when this happened. That day. Who was there? Uncle George. Yes! Oh, and Aunt Bertha. You remember. Write it down. 

It's as you write that inspiration will come. 

It's as you write that the stories will flow like a clear stream through a verdant meadow. Oh, sure, there will be rocks and curves and obstacles in your way to getting the words out.

That's normal.

That's what I'm here for. 

To help you polish your work. Make sure you're using the right word, in context. 

To make sure you don't forget who you're writing for (it's never you).

To hand you over to Tom, who will make everything beautiful.

And then, to publication. Your book. With your name on it.

You're a published author. And the sky is the limit on what that will do for you.
