After nearly three years of being remote, I realized how much I’ve missed being around people. I love community, I love connection, and I love having a place to go that isn’t my house.

Since 2023, I’ve been fully remote, and heading into 2026, it felt like the right time to get back into a space. Huge thanks to Lane for reaching out about Anata Studios. hUnTeR STUTZ, and I moved in this week, and I couldn’t be more excited.

It’s the perfect setup with great people, creative energy, and a space to lock in and build.

The NYC Marathon has quietly become one of the most important cultural marketing moments of the year.


And yes, I had real FOMO watching it unfold this weekend.

This was not just about running. It was a masterclass in cultural participation and brand presence.

Record setting year too.

59,226 runners finished.

The largest marathon in history.

More people running, more community energy, more storytelling surface area for brands.

Nike went big with one of the cleanest localized campaigns I’ve seen in a while. Ferry wraps. Billboards. Street takeovers. Not loud for the sake of being loud, but perfectly contextual to New York, grit, and motion.

ShareAura (Zach Pogrob) leaning into subway placements was another standout. Simple, local, in rhythm with the city.

Cadence x Leon's Bagels tapped into the runner economy in a way that felt earned. Fuel, community, ritual. Show up early, show up often, make it make sense.

Key takeaways:
• Cultural moments > traditional campaigns
• Built-for-NYC beats generic performance marketing
• Integrate with the community instead of advertising to it
• Utility and identity matter more than volume or scale

Brand building is moving to the streets, the tracks, the bagel shops, the shakeout runs, the subway stairs. Moments like this reward proximity to culture, not distance from it.

If you’re building in CPG, wellness, performance, lifestyle, or community-driven categories, this is the playbook: participate, don’t interrupt.

Popcorn is quietly turning into one of the most competitive categories in better-for-you snacking.


Novak Djokovic just joined Jessica Brondo Davidoff & Cob Foods, a corn-free sorghum popcorn brand, as co-founder and lead investor in a $5M seed round.

What makes this launch interesting:
• Sorghum may be the next ingredient breakout. It delivers the popcorn experience without corn, aligns with gluten-free and gut-friendly trends, and is more drought-resistant and sustainable.
• Real founder story. The idea came from a parent searching for a corn alternative due to her son’s allergy.
• Celebrity involvement with intention. Djokovic isn't just lending his name, he’s contributing to product strategy and expansion.
• This category is heating up fast. Between Khloud, KUDO, BUNKY, and now Cob, popcorn is evolving around cleaner labels, performance messaging, and lifestyle positioning.

It’s a great example of how a familiar category gets reinvented by swapping the ingredient foundation, not the format.

The brands that win aren’t inventing new habits. They’re rebuilding the products people already love with better inputs and sharper storytelling.

Lucky Energy just raised $25M, TRIP pulled in $40M at a $300M valuation, Recess secured $30M, Cove Soda raised $15M, and even Monster Energy is launching a female-focused energy drink called FLRT.

So what’s going on here?

The entire beverage category is evolving. People don’t just want caffeine anymore, they want function.

Energy. Mood. Focus. Gut health.

It’s all blending into a new wave of functional wellness drinks that feel more like lifestyle brands than beverages.

And people are paying for it. Premium, clean, zero sugar, better for you.

Brands like Alani Nutrition and CELSIUS along with poppi (acquired by PepsiCo for nearly $2 billion) & OLIPOP PBC already proved the playbook. 

Build a strong identity, connect with your audience, and scale into retail.

Investors are flooding in because drinks move fast. You can go from DTC to Target in a year if the brand hits right.

If you’re seeing new bev brands pop up every week, it’s not your imagination. This category is booming.

And personally, as a bevy guy, I love to see it.
