I’m passionate about serving Government Leaders because I know firsthand how Bad Bosses can demolish engagement at work, AND wellbeing at home. I also know how easy it can be to become a Bad Boss... Growing up, I watched my father work through his 30-year leadership career in the public sector. Like many Government Leaders, my dad was thrown in with no Tools or Training to help him succeed. His bosses didn’t appreciate the time and resources his work required. Consequently, Dad’s team was burdened with far too many projects, and the only reward they ever got for good work was more work… When my father first became a manager, his goal was to become the Best Boss his direct reports could ask for! But despite Dad’s best intentions, after 30 years of fighting through red tape, he inevitably became jaded and negative himself… not because he didn’t care about his people, but simply because he was tired. He was worn down from decades of being set up to fail by bosses who never supported or appreciated him. And the worst part was that my dad’s toxic work environment followed him home. I had a front-row seat to the slow decline of my father’s physical, mental, and emotional health. I saw how his negative work environment affected his relationships with his friends, his family, and even himself. I realized that my dad’s employees AND his bosses must have suffered under the same weight of a massive, bureaucratic cycle… And that’s when it hit me -- it wasn’t my Dad’s fault that he felt so discouraged! And if you’ve been feeling discouraged at work lately, it’s not your fault either. The problems you’re facing are too big for any one person to solve. I knew that if my dad had the right Tools and Training at work, his life (and the lives of his employees) would have been completely different! So I studied organizational development strategies, and eventually signed up with 34 Strong.
