In my work leading policy and advocacy at The Jed Foundation (JED), I see every day how deeply food insecurity impacts youth mental health. When programs like SNAP are disrupted, it is not only about hunger. It is about stress, instability, and the emotional toll that makes it harder for young people to learn, work, and thrive.

At JED, we are highlighting this critical link between food security and mental health because access to food is access to stability, dignity, and well-being. Leaders across education, health, and policy must treat food insecurity as a mental health issue and design solutions that reflect that truth. This is no time to look away….the opportunity to act and advocate is right now.
