7 timeless lessons from building 2x $1M+ SaaS companies: 1. Solve your own problems. I created Tweet Hunter & Taplio because I was creating content on Twitter and LinkedIn and I was looking for a better way to manage those platforms. It's easier to understand your target audience when YOU are the target audience. 2. Find pain points and fix them. Check out negative feedback and reviews on existing products. Look for common issues, then build the solution. 3. Recycle old ideas. There's a lot to learn from those that came before us. Take inspiration from a past idea, then make it better. EG. Google borrowed ideas from AltaVista and Yahoo. 4. Specialize Then Optimize. If you focus on too many things at once, you'll get overwhelmed. Find a specific problem to solve and focus on fixing that before moving on. 5. Embrace change. Technology evolves at a rapid pace (just look at the AI landscape) You can either move with it - or get left behind. 6. If it works in one place it will work in another. Study products and ideas in other industries, or countries. Figure out why they work, then replicate those concepts elsewhere. 7. Automate everything. Admin and tickbox exercises are a complete time sync. If you can spend 20 minutes setting up an automation that will save you hours in the future, then do it. PS. Resumes are a waste of time. (how I hire world-class talent) It’s 2024 and I can’t believe people still rely on resumes and cover letters to try and find employees. First, I post about an opportunity on either X or LinkedIn. Then, I look through the profiles of talent that reaches out. I see what projects they’ve worked on. And if they don’t post content online - no problem - I ask them to send examples of their work. Then, when I find someone I like, I offer them a trial. If we like working together - cool. If we don’t - I pay them for their time and we move on. At the end of the day, the main things that matter are: A) Can you do what we’re looking for? B) Will we enjoy working together? And you won’t find either of those answers on a scrap of paper... Having a strong personal brand makes everything so much easier... Including hiring. P.S. What are your thoughts on resumes? I’ve gained 22K+ followers on LinkedIn. If I had to start again tomorrow, this is what I’d do 👇🏻 1. Sign up to Taplio 😉 2. Optimise my profile, as if it were a landing page (sleek banner, nice profile pic, clear bio). 3. Document my journey and write for my younger self. 4. Focus on building meaningful relationships. 5. Go hard on commenting and engagement. 6. Ask for feedback from my audience. 7. Use data to optimise my content. 8. Engage in meaningful conversations over DM. 9. Generally try to be as authentic as possible. To all the other creators in my network... What would your advice be?

I've made a tonne of mistakes building businesses. Luckily, you can learn from my mistakes. Mistake number 1 → blaming others. When my first start-up failed, I blamed my co-founders. So I got rid of them. But that wasn't the real issue. Mistake number 2 → Thinking I needed a lot of resources to be successful. When I built my second start-up, I got more VC money and hired a bigger team. But that didn't solve my problems. Then I learnt my lesson. I realised that I needed to validate my ideas before getting too heavily invested. So, for my third start-up, I went with a built fast ship fast mentality. I launched 10 ideas, each with an MVP cycle lasting 1-2 weeks. The 11th idea ended up being sold for $10M Now I carry that mentality into everything I do. Build fast. Ship fast. In 2018, I was ready to give up on entrepreneurship. I had two failed start-ups under my belt. Something wasn't clicking. And I kept asking myself if... "Maybe I wasn't cut out for it". So I took a job as a CTO at another company. Then 2020 Covid happened. My world got shook-up and I was left jobless. In a panic, I reached out to an old friend and started working on new products - taking a build-fast, ship-fast approach. - We put out 11 products. - 8 got active users. - 4 generated $$$. - 1 (Tweet Hunter) took off. I don't know what would have happened if I had fully walked away from being a creator. But the lesson is clear. If you want to be successful... You need to embrace failure as part of the process. PS. This 3-step plan will increase your chances of a successful product launch by 100X This is exactly how I rank my products on Product Hunt 👇🏻 Step 1) Pre-launch prep - Plan everything in advance and give yourself time to get creative. - Warm your audience by putting out value on social and email etc. - Analyse competitors and study their launches. What did they do well? What could you do better? - Create all of your launch assets for social, web, email, YouTube etc. Make a checklist and be thorough. Step 2) Launch day - Schedule the launch for 12:01 am. This will give you more time to rank. - Start sending DMs and update community channels. Shout about the product and ask for feedback. - Get active on social. Engage with your followers and spread the word as far as possible Step 3) Post-launch - Thank all the people who have helped you with the launch. - Add any badges (like top products) to your website. - Then get to work improving your product. We over-complicate things 🤦♂️ One example: EVERY SINGLE SEO agency we talked to asked us to migrate our blog to platform XYZ 🤯 I am now convinced the most important is to make it EASY to write. So we write on Notion (the best experience imo) and we use a tool called Feather (Feather.so) to take care of the rest ✨
