I used to treat tools like ChatGPT and Copilot as slightly smarter search engines, typing in a random question, grabbing the first response, and moving on. 

Over time, I realized they’re much more useful when you treat them like teammates, giving them context, spelling out your goals, and going back and forth instead of settling for the first draft. 

That’s when things shifted. I started leaning on AI for drafts of emails, posts, and project plans. I used it to brainstorm, refine, and poke holes in my ideas. The work was still mine, but the starting point got so much better. 

If you’re frustrated with generic AI answers or feel like AI isn’t that helpful, try sharing more background, showing examples of what you like, and inviting it to ask follow‑up questions.
