Recession fears and tariff talk won’t ruin your career. (But panic will) The worst thing you can do right now is freak out. That's the real threat that will lead you to giving up. 2008 had dream job wins. 2020 built new millionaires. Even now, I’ve got 4 clients in final-round interviews. Because companies are still hiring. They just want their top choice. So if you're thinking to hit pause on your search Only do it if you DON'T want a new job. 7 job search habits that quietly kill your chances in a recession (and what to do instead:) 1. Consuming negative news daily. ↳ The news loves scaring you because it captures you. ↳ Just give yourself 15 minutes for news then switch to solution mode. 2. Believing all good jobs are gone. ↳ Companies still need talent in every downturn, they always do. ↳ Identify your top choice companies to target. 3. Using the same generic resume for every app. ↳ When you send the same thing everywhere, you stand out nowhere. ↳ You need to give them evidence of why YOU. 4. Comparing yourself to others. ↳ Someone else's journey won't get you where you need to go. ↳ Notice your small wins each day and build momentum from there. 5. Taking rejection personally. ↳ Rejection reflects market conditions, not your worth. ↳ Extract the lesson and immediately move on to the next opportunity. 6. Isolating from your network. ↳ Connection is your greatest advantage in uncertainty. ↳ Offer value before asking for help. 7. Waiting for the "perfect" market conditions. ↳ Perfect conditions don't exist. ↳ Imperfect action beats perfect planning so just start. The market doesn't determine your value. Your actions do. You don't need 100 offers. You only need 1 yes from the right place.

You’re being entitled. That’s what they said when I asked how to keep growing. I’d been at the company for 13 months. When I joined, there were 5 of us on the team. One by one, everyone left. And suddenly, it was just me doing the work of 5. I had just been promoted, but only to match the work I’d already been doing for 7 months. So when I asked my manager for a path to keep growing, It didn’t feel like a big ask. Especially not after carrying the entire team. But my manager didn’t see it that way. They called me entitled, and that’s when I knew. They weren’t interested in helping me grow. Just in how much they could get from me while I stayed. So I left. Because I am the only person who will always put me first. You’re not entitled for wanting to grow. If they won’t invest in you, invest in somewhere that will.

When I was 5, I used to collect cans with my grandma. We’d push a shopping cart through the neighborhood, Fill it with cans, then roll it to the recycling center. They’d weigh it and hand us cash. And I remember thinking it was so fun. That was my first lesson in possibility. Simple effort. Real reward. And a sense that I could do something even at 5 to shape what came next. My grandma didn’t speak English. She came to the U.S. late in life, never went to school, and couldn’t even read Chinese. But she was scrappy. And she taught me that you don’t need perfect conditions to move forward. You just need to start. She had me save the money we earned in a coloring book. She called it my down payment for a home. Looking back, I realize what she was really teaching me: You don’t get to choose your starting point. But you do get to shape what happens next. That mindset of turning what you have into what you need has shaped every pivot I've made. The biggest role model in my life couldn’t read or write. But she taught me how to create my own future. And that made all the difference. You don’t need perfect conditions to take the next step. You just need to start with what you have.

ONE mistake can ruin your life. (but only if you let it) You're not your worst decision. You're the one who got back up after it. I've carried the shame of: ↳ Staying in a job longer than I needed. ↳ Thinking I didn't deserve the job I got. ↳ Pivoting and having it fail. Here’s what I've learned: ❌ Mistakes don’t make you less credible. ↳ They make you more qualified to lead, to adapt, to empathize. ✅ You’re allowed to outgrow your past ↳ As a human, the only thing guaranteed is change. Admitting you chose wrong isn’t weakness. It’s the first sign you’re ready for something better. You’re just one bold choice away from a different room.

                169

5 years ago, I defined luxury as: - Checking every “next step” off the career ladder - Getting into big tech - Free swag, catered lunch, shiny perks - A comp package that impressed other people Today, I define it as: - Work that aligns with my values - Time to enjoy life outside the screen - Energy to take care of my health - The flexibility to walk away from the wrong fit Remember what really matters. You’re not lazy for wanting peace. You’re just finally choosing yourself.

                  259

The average human spends 70% of their time at work. (spoiler: It’s not just about hours on the clock.) It’s not just the 9 to 5. It’s the 30 min you spend rehearsing to ask for a raise. The Sunday dread before Monday’s meeting. The dreams where you’re still replying to Slack. When you add up the time you spend: → Commuting → Thinking about work → Talking about work → Getting ready for work → Recovering from work That 70% number doesn’t feel so exaggerated anymore. Because work doesn’t just take your time. It can take your energy, your sleep, your confidence Sometimes even your sense of self. So if you’re feeling burnt out or a little untethered, you’re not making it up. You’re not being dramatic, you're just human. Where you work and who you work with matters. Your job has to fit your life. Not the other way around. 💻 If you’re an Analytics/Marketing professional looking to be intentional with your job search 💬 Comment “STUCK” & I’ll invite you to a free discovery call.

8 phrases that quietly ruin interviews. (and what to say instead) 1️⃣ “I don’t have any questions.” ↳ Sounds like you didn’t do your homework. ✅ Ask: “I saw [insert article you research], how has that affected X team?” 2️⃣ “I’ll take anything right now.” ↳ Comes off as desperate, not flexible. ✅ Say: “I’m excited about this opportunity because it aligns with X.” 3️⃣ “I don’t have experience with that.” ↳ Dead end. ✅ Try: “I haven’t done that yet, but here’s how I’d approach it.” 4️⃣ “I didn’t get along with my last boss.” ↳ Red flag. ✅ Try: “I learned a lot from my last role, but I’m excited for a new environment.” 5️⃣ “I’m a perfectionist.” ↳ The oldest fake weakness in the book. ✅ Share a real growth area and what you’re doing to improve it. 6️⃣ “My last company was toxic.” ↳ Even if it’s true, it puts people on edge. ✅ Focus on what you’re looking for next, not what you’re leaving behind. 7️⃣ “What does your company do again?” ↳ Automatic rejection. ✅ Come prepared. Mention something you learned about the product or mission. 8️⃣ “I don’t have any leadership experience.” ↳ You probably do, but you’re just not framing it right. ✅ Try: “While I haven’t managed people, I’ve led X projects and influenced key decisions.” Every sentence in an interview is a signal. Make sure yours are working for you, not against you. 📌 If you feel stuck in your job search, let’s chat: https://lnkd.in/gWkQmNct

Sunday scaries are NOT normal. It's a culture problem in disguise. If your team is spending Sunday night dreading Monday, that’s not just burnout. That’s on the environment they’re walking into. Because how people feel on Sunday says more about your culture Than your perks, values, or mission statement ever will. Here’s what a healthier culture actually looks like: 1/ Clarity > Chaos ↳ Make roles and priorities clear not just in a doc, but in how you work together day to day. ↳ A lot of anxiety comes from not knowing what’s expected or what success actually looks like. 2/ Boundaries aren’t a bonus ↳ If you say you value WLB but celebrate people for being always on, your team gets a different message. ↳ People learn what’s acceptable by watching how you show up, not by reading your policies. 3/ Growth that feels like progress ↳ Most people want to be challenged, but they also need to feel like the effort is leading somewhere. ↳ If the work only feels demanding and there’s no clear path ahead, it gets harder to stay motivated or stay long-term. 4/ Safety to speak up ↳ Feedback only works if people feel safe enough to give it honestly. ↳ If your team feels like they have to soften or hide what they’re really experiencing, you won’t be able to solve what’s actually broken. 5/ Exit interviews are too late ↳ When someone is already walking out the door, it’s too late to fix what made them leave. ↳ Create a habit of checking in, asking better questions, and acting on what you hear before it gets to that point. People don’t just remember what they did at work. They remember how work made them feel. And that starts long before Monday morning.

                      1k

Me before my career pivot: One mistake could ruin everything. Me after my career pivot: One mistake can gift me the biggest lesson. Every misstep teaches you something. You can’t be perfect. But you can be brave enough to try, mess up, and grow.

8 phrases to turn your interviews into offers These are real lines my clients use. And they’re landing $100K+ roles because of them. Speak like the top candidate you are. 1️⃣ “I was looking over the job description and I loved how focused you are on [insert challenge or priority].” ↳ Shows you’ve done your homework ↳ Signals that you care about their goals, not just landing a job 2️⃣ “In my last role, I built a solution that helped increase engagement by X%.” ↳ Keeps things business-focused ↳ Makes your impact easy to understand 3️⃣ “That reminds me of when I tackled something similar at [company].” ↳ Shows you’ve handled their kind of challenge before ↳ Helps connect your experience to their needs 4️⃣ “Based on what you’ve shared about [challenge], here’s how I’d approach the first 90 days.” ↳ Demonstrates you’re already thinking like a team member ↳ Helps them visualize how you’ll add value immediately 5️⃣ “One of the most valuable parts of my last role was working on projects that directly aligned with business goals.” ↳ Signals you understand what matters ↳ Ties your experience to what this role needs 6️⃣ “How does the team balance short-term wins with longer-term strategy?” ↳ Shows you're thinking big picture ↳ Helps uncover how the team really works 7️⃣ “How is success measured in this role over the first year?” ↳ Sets you up to exceed expectations ↳ Gives you insight into what really matters to them 8️⃣ “This role excites me because it aligns with where I want to grow professionally—and the type of work I want to keep doing.” ↳ Shows that you’re intentional about your next step ↳ Makes you look like someone who’ll stick around and grow with the team An interview isn’t a pop quiz. It’s your first chance to show how you’ll add value. 📌 DM me "STUCK" if you're an Analytics or Marketing professional who is job searching in 2025!

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. Yes. Every no gets you closer to yes. Only if you don't give up. This doesn't mean to white knuckle your way through. It means being willing to try a new strategy. Or even pivot and change direction. But if you don't give up, your yes will come. Rejection doesn’t mean you failed. It’s proof you’re trying. You only need one yes. But you have to be willing to hear a hundred no's first. 📌 If you feel stuck in your job search, let’s chat: https://lnkd.in/gWkQmNct

Good people don't leave companies. They leave bad managers. I’ve worked under both. The bad ones like: ↳ The credit-stealer who took my ideas and ran. ↳ The boss who called me “entitled” just for asking for a development plan. And the great ones who: ↳ Fought for my growth, not just their own. ↳ Made me believe I deserved a seat at the table and to take up space in it. A bad manager makes you question your worth. A great one reminds you of it. If you're job searching, here are 3 signs you're meeting a manager you can trust: 1️⃣ They care about where you're going ↳ Ask about your goals, not just what you’ve done. ↳ Talk about how this role can stretch you and open new doors. 2️⃣ They give credit where it's due ↳ Celebrate team wins before taking personal praise. ↳ Focus on building with you, not managing over you. 3️⃣ They treat the interview like a real conversation ↳ Welcome your questions; not just tolerate them. ↳ Care just as much about you finding the right fit. The right manager won’t just grow your career. They’ll remind you what you’re capable of. Choose wisely. ♻️ Repost if a great manager changed your life. 🔔 Follow Angela Lau for more career clarity and courage.
