Here’s a super simple way to find out if your marketing is actually doing anything.

Take your target account list. Doesn’t matter if it’s 50, 100, or 500 accounts.
 
For now, let’s say 100. Split them into two groups of 50.

Group A:
 Run paid ads to them. Nothing fancy - just consistent air cover.
 One week later, have sales start outbounding those same accounts.

Group B:
 No ads. No air cover.
 Sales just does their normal outbound thing.

Now wait until the end of the month and compare:
 - Outbound → Meeting rate
 - Meeting → SAO rate
 - Pipeline created

And if you want to be really honest with yourself, check the full sales cycle, too.

Every time I’ve seen this test run, the same thing happens:

The accounts that saw marketing convert higher.
 Outbound lands better.
 Meetings happen faster.
 Sales doesn’t have to drag people across the finish line.

No attribution model. No dashboards. No politics.
 
 Just reality.

If marketing is actually warming up your market, you’ll see it instantly.

And if it’s not… well, that’s useful to know too.

There’s a new wave of companies and consultants promising fully automated outreach.

We see it in our inboxes.
 We see it blowing up RevOps calendars.
 
We hear the hype - yes, I listened to the podcast about Vercel’s AI SDR, too.

And yet… the outreach is still awful.

A handful make it work.

Everyone else just blasts out generic noise.

Worse: a lot of this “AI cold calling” is very illegal (Lord Chief Baron Evan Dunn - esq. can attest ⚖️). 

And the automated #LinkedIn outreach violates LinkedIn’s TOS so fast you’ll lose your account before you book your first meeting. 👀 

Here’s the reality: setting cold meetings today requires allbound.

Phone, social, events - email is probably the weakest of the bunch.

Plus creativity.
 Plus brand.
 Plus content.
 Plus actual marketing.

Somehow that part keeps getting lost in the race to the bottom.

I got hit this week with an email and a LinkedIn request at the same time referencing a Drift review from years ago.

Drift doesn’t even exist anymore.

Straight to spam. 🗑️

There’s no silver bullet here. And anyone promising one is selling fantasy.

Ops teams want an #AI win - totally fair but “automated personalized outreach” is nowhere near the easy win people claim it is (kind of a lame one IMO). 

You’ll see a lot of bragging about it.

You won’t see many admitting it isn’t working.

And you'll see a lot of email domains getting blacklisted.

Do better.

AI isn’t “helping” GTM teams anymore  it’s rewriting how companies grow. ⚡
We just dropped Agentic GTM: 2026 and Beyond, and the themes are crystal clear:

 • The efficiency trap is real. Most teams use AI to do old work faster. The winners move from Tools → Teammates → Orchestrated Systems that take on work humans would never get to.

 • Prompts → Pipeline. Agentic GTM turns a prompt into autonomous actions across channels, systems, and workflows. Not theory - real pipeline.

 • Stacks are being rebuilt. Zoom, LogicMonitor, Bloomreach… all moving past automation and toward systems that think, adapt, and act on their own.

 • Brand = trust at speed. In an AI-first world, brand isn’t built - it’s cited. LLMs either recommend you or erase you.

 • Superhuman scale is here. Chili Piper got to $50M with two marketers and a fleet of agents. That’s the new operating model.

 • 2026 predictions from top CMOs: Agentic systems reshape how teams operate, how leaders lead, and how GTM execution actually happens.

 • AI search is the new front door. 50% of B2B buyers now start with AI search more than Google. If you’re not winning answer engine results, you’re invisible.

 • ABM that converts 10–15%. UserGems 💎 shows what happens when reps actually want to work the accounts.

 • Humans + agents is a new leadership muscle. Different leverage, different risks, different performance curve. 🤖

So far this year, three of the following have actually happened across two enterprise deals and one mid-market deal.

One is fake.

The real ones all had contracts out and were already far into procurement.

 1. A company got swept into a national scandal and is now just trying to survive.
 2. Massive raise announced - the entire marketing team quit days later.
 3. Told me yes before Thanksgiving and started procument.… then the marketing team quit the week after. 
 4. CEO took ayahuasca and leveraged the company to buy an obscure crypto coin he claimed was created by aliens 👽

As Mike Tyson said:  “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
