This was a side hustle that grew to require more attention. 

My friend and I were tired of waiting in line for nightclubs and being rejected. 

We did a little market research.

We made some phone calls. 

We decided to start a business that allowed people to access nightclubs and bars more easily. 

This was before Facebook/Meta was a big deal. 

As demand grew we scaled the business to start promoting our own events. 

At its peak I managed a call centre of 30 people managing 40,000 members through our web based software. 

Most of our partners and stakeholders were based in central London and the West End. 

Following the 7/7 attacks in 2005, people no longer wanted to visit nightclubs in central London. 

This is when we scaled back the business and I returned to my day job as an accountant.

PRS for Music

This was my last full time role as an accountant. 

I loved the idea of what this organisation represented. 

We ensured that artists and creators would receive royalties for their work. 

This is not a simple task in the 21st Century. 

I was supporting the Broadcast and Online team and drove the tactical and strategic planning of the business unit. 

Our clients and stakeholders were 

- Production companies
- Record Labels 
- TV Channels
- Websites 
- Retailers 

I was one of the first users of Spotify in the UK. 

This was when it was free and you could listen to anything and everything. 

My experience in this role encouraged to reconsider my career trajectory. 

During this time I attended Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Then I read a magazine article that changed my life. 

6 months later I quit my job. 

That was a milestone for my Inclusion Journey.

Senior Commercial Analysis Manager

Rickards Media Services

This role represented a shift away from traditional accountancy to commercial operations. 

My role in Channel 4 set me up for this role because 

I was headhunted by my old line manager.

All of my old competitors were now my clients. 

All of my old clients were now my stakeholders. 

Essentially I worked for or with all the major media owners in the UK. 

We were auditing sensitive commercial relationships around advertising share deals. 

My audit background helped me to redesign the entire audit process. 

I also had primary responsibility for all non- core consultancy work including work with BARB.

This included new Business bids and Ad hoc Consultancy Projects. 

This role developed my commercial expertise. 

I left this job to fulfil my dream of living in Brazil.

Senior Audit Manager

Channel 4

This was the best job I ever had as an employee. 

I loved the brand. 

I loved the team. 

I loved the location. 

I worked closely with the Head of Commercial Finance to manage almost £1bn in Airtime Sales and Sponsorship revenues. 

I did all the usual month end and strategic stuff. 

I expanded a lot of what was there: 

- Development of reporting to the Heads of Department and the Sales Director. 

- Created, reviewed and maintained financial controls and procedures.

- Enhanced bespoke Month End procedures 

I spent a lot of time with sales people and really got into the commercial part of the business. 

This is when I started to speak more with agencies.

Our team released £200m in Bank Guarantees for the Top six Major Agency Groups following an OFT Review. 

We were involved with the launch of the Thinkbox exercise. This was a joint venture between the major Commercial Broadcasters including ITV, Sky and Channel 5.

Why did I leave this job after a short period of time? 

My Line Manager recruited me to join him as part of the team in his new role.

Commercial Finance Manager

The Walt Disney Company

This was my first job after I qualified as a chartered accountant. 

I left “practice” because I wanted to work in a commercial environment. 

Being an auditor meant I saw the insides of lots of businesses. 

But I didn’t always have the freedom to help them grow. 

This was the Walt Disney Company. 

They are all about growth. 

I worked for Disney Consumer Products. 

Merchandise is a lucrative opportunity for brands. 

We were behind all the merchandise for the Disney brands. 

I was there when Disney Princess was just being turned into a big deal! 

We used to joke that we made so much money that we paid for all the movies to be made. 

I worked with Publishing, Retail Marketing and Toys at Global and Pan European levels.

I did this and a lot more.

I left this role because my side hustle business with a friend started to take off and really needed my attention.
