- Created custom AutoCAD LISP routines to take CAD drawings from Autodesk Inventor and convert them to native AutoCAD 2000 file type. The layers, line colors, type, and weights were adjusted while conforming to the company's standards which were precise and pre-determined by years of experience. 

- These LISP routines have helped to save the engineering department hours of extra work that was spent doing this by hand when the routines achieve a better result in seconds. 

- Managed Robotic Weld Cell creation thru installation created a marked improvement in factory throughput. Designed and commissioned dozens of custom weld fixtures for every major product line.
 
- Participated in several successful Research and Development projects including Pilot1000 Stretch Wrapper, Automatic Film Cut Mechanism, and Rover Mobile Battery Powered Stretch Wrapper.

- Oversaw administration of Autodesk Inventor Vault containing upwards of 50,000 individual parts, assemblies, and drawings. Mentoring employees in current best practices for the team environment.
 
- Created Autodesk Inventor to DWG export system using LISP routines which export and then reduce/rename the Autocad DWG layers to match Cousins Engineering Standards.
 
- Created detailed large assembly BOMs and Drawing packages containing engineering specifications for each component. Material requirements are shown in detailed BOMs. The number of drawings per machine would routinely exceed 200+ pages. Often times creating new parts/assemblies, requiring new drawings/specs per individual job requirement.

- Coded custom SQL queries/views/detailed cost reports using Crystal in conjunction with Infor VISUAL Manufacturing CRM SQL Server database to produce stunning, live data cost reports for the CEO of the company.

- Developed custom VB applications to allow the Engineering department to interface with SolidWorks 3D CAD design software. The program opens a new window within the SolidWorks application. This window has multiple sliders and input boxes that allow live control of model constraints. This was accomplished by using SolidWork's built-in API. 

- Worked with a local studio to design/produce a WordPress website: nyemfg.ca. Utilized open source program Blender and Adobe Creative suite (PS, Ai, id) to accomplish this.

- Custom programming of Siemens Micromaster VFD AC drive controllers to regulate the HVAC system in a large welding shop. Features a custom user interface. This upgrade resulted in a 20% increase in air quality during periods of heavy welding. 

- Designed custom hydraulic attachments for heavy construction equipment (hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders). Served the construction, demolition, and mining industries across North America.

 - Managed and coordinated the installation of Infor Visual Mfg. ERP software suite, including training, SQL Server database upgrades, and custom metrics reports for executives using SQL Server and SSRS.

- Successful application and receipt of a $50,000 grant towards the training of the Engineering department, via the Yves Landry Foundation. Took multi-day SolidWorks Essentials Training with Javelin Technologies (Oakville). 

- Consulted with professional engineers to revise designs, certify, and stamp drawings of several load-lifting devices at construction sites across the GTA.

- Facilitated the design of new major product lines: Excavator mounted Engine Block Extractor/Crusher; 360 degrees rotating custom hydraulic attachment for extracting and processing used automobile engines into finer sortable sizes.

🎨 UI design tip: Name colours based on how they're used

Here's my simple but powerful token naming structure to keep colours organised 👇

The name of each colour consists of up to 4 words that describe how and where to use the colour on an interface:

[element.tone.emphasis.state]

You can take naming a step further and create colour names for specific components, but it’s often unnecessary and overcomplicated.

Sunday night video update regarding my latest project, a resume customization tool called the Resume Wrangler!





RW now has most of its functionality implemented on the live site, which is exciting! 

The cover letter module was wrapped up this afternoon and is now also live and functional in the dashboard. 

The new user tour will get an update this week to include the resume and cover letter modules.

Also, expect to see new cover letter and resume templates added each week going forward as we build out the rest of this Resume customization tool in public!

At some point in the future, we may open up the API to the public and allow users to create custom cover letter and resume templates in HTML.

Just implemented a slick guided walkthrough for the dashboard page in Resume Wrangler.




When a new user creates an account, they will be flagged in the PostgreSQL database as new. This flag will trigger a walkthrough to be displayed exclusively to new users for each section of the application. The walkthrough will guide new users through the features and functionalities of each section, ensuring they are familiar with the application and feel confident using it.

This feature could also be utilized in the future to introduce new features or updates to my user base. Upon logging in, users will be presented with a walkthrough of the new feature or update, ensuring that they understand how to use it and can take full advantage of it. This should help to keep users engaged with the application and ensure they are getting the most out of its features.

Here is another great video series this time from MIT regarding Discrete Mathematics in computer science




The course videos cover elementary discrete mathematics for computer science and engineering. It emphasizes mathematical definitions and proofs as well as applicable methods. 

Topics include:
- Formal logic notation, proof methods; 
- Induction, well-ordering; 
- Sets, relations; 
- Elementary graph theory; 
- Integer congruences; 
- Asymptotic notation and growth of functions; 
- Permutations and combinations, counting principles and discrete probability. 

Further selected topics may also be covered, such as recursive definition and structural induction, state machines, invariants, recurrences and generating functions.

The course is a little old and the math is still completely relevant.

A tip for any aspiring JavaScript developers out there



Take a tip from me and make sure to familiarize yourself with the basics of JavaScript before trying to learn TypeScript. 

The advantages of using TypeScript may not be obvious at first, but they will become apparent in due time. 

Trust me when I say that it's worth investing your time and effort to learn and implement.

I once heard a great developer exclaim "I only use TS for the Autocomplete functionality while typing". 

And if that's the only reason you use it, then that's great! Just remember your management and team members will also thank you!
