QM Alpha Kappa Psi - Chi Eta Chapter

Following my previous VPM role, which was very front facing, I moved to a higher administrative role in the back end. The role consists of delegating tasks to the rest of the members on the Executive Board as well as leading a team of 40 individuals. Maintained a clear schedule of meetings and events, while assisting other board members with Marketing, Social Media presence, event bookings, conducting professional events, and preparing and conducting weekly presentations. Increased brand engagement online by 15%.

The VP of Membership is required to handle all that is concerned with the Chapter’s Pledges. These include managing the 8-week educational program offered to the Pledges to familiarize them with the Fraternity as a whole, what it stands for, its benefits, and its requirements of joining and officially being inducted as a Brother of Alpha Kappa Psi.

I supervised and administered several events/requirements throughout the semester that were needed during the recruitment period.

Rush period (period of which the Chapter reaches out to individuals who may be future Pledges) that was done through setting up a Society Stall during the University’s society fair and reaching out to people getting them interested in AKPsi. As well as setting up an (info session) meeting with all the individuals who are interested to familiarize them with the Fraternity.

Pledge period (8-week Pledge education program) that was done through weekly presentations that were created by me that inform the Pledges of fraternal policies, fraternal requirements, all the fraternal knowledge they must know and memorize for their fraternal exam and the requirements needed for their Mid-Term Interviews. To correctly facilitate that and smoothly go through the 8-week program, which is one of the most time-consuming requirement as VPM, I meticulously went over the program's Facilitator Guide to fully understand what is expected of a VPM and how to conduct the education program to the Pledges.

I acted as the main point of communication and contact between Pledges and Brothers and was in a very close communication channel with the Chapter’s President and Executive Vice President (a.k.a. Vice President of Administration).

Being a VPM is challenging. You get to know and learn about different people and their cultures. It can get stressful sometimes and it has its ups and downs, as all positions do, but it was great fun. It was an amazing opportunity to further develop my social and organisational skills.

Stepped up to become the Interim VP of Membership at the time as the elected VPM was away. Undertook all the responsibilities of the VP of Membership until I was officially elected for the position in December of 2017.

Alpha Kappa Psi – the most prestigious business fraternity dates back to 1904 and is now chartered at QMUL. It is the first business fraternity in London and second in the UK, thanks to three QMUL students – Daniel M. Bui, Klara Klarowicz and Elena Burykina (the founding three). In 2015/16, the founding three studied abroad at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida and became brothers of Beta Pi “Chapter” (location at which AKPsi is chartered) in Fall 2015. Seeing the benefits of a brotherhood, they decided there was a need for such an organisation at their home university. So, upon returning to QMUL, they brought over the concept and after successfully attracting new members through showing the meaning of brotherhood, the importance of giving back to the community, and encouraging lifelong learning, Alpha Kappa Psi was established at QMUL.

The purpose of student-staff liaison committees is to ensure that there is an effective channel for formal communication between students and staff in each school or institute, through which students can reflect and give feedback on their programme of study as an integral part of QMUL's systems and procedures for assuring academic standards and enhancing the student learning experience.

I acted as a society representative of QM Alpha Kappa Psi - Chi Eta Chapter as it is an Academic Society under the School of Business and Management at QMUL striving for furthering the academic engagement between students and staff.

Co-Founded this venture to solve the BIGGEST problem facing multilingual people when using computers and laptops.

A keyboard that would serve multilingual individuals who are in the need for the use of multiple languages. The keys were to be “transparent” and through mini displays, the keys would show the correct alphabet according to individual’s personal preference and choice of language to be displayed “on-demand”. We envisioned it to work as if it were a smartphone digital keyboard, but physical.

Why was this important?

Majority of standardised physical keyboards offer the input in one language only, and Keys tend to wear out/lose their lettering after long term use.

In order for a customer to be able to use multiple languages on their physical keyboard they:

→ buy their laptop/computer in the specific country where the language originates from

→ purchase an external wired/wireless keyboard with the specific language requirement

→ purchase stickers that will be placed on each individual key

→ purchase external rubber overlays to be placed on top of the keyboard

The aim was to eliminate these options in order to give customers a more efficient and convenient alternative.

In 2018, the venture was ultimately abandoned due to lack of funding and go-to-market strategy.

In 2020 and in 2022, Apple was granted several patents for a reconfigurable keyboard - which ultimately cemented the demise of this project.

But hey… we have bragging rights for developing an “Apple-level” idea before Apple.

2011: Moved to Vienna - Austria, and started learning German.
2016: Graduated high school. Quit learning German. Moved to London, UK.

2019: Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Completed a certified program in Mergers & Acquisitions.
2020: Graduated with a Master’s degree in International Marketing. Moved back to Vienna. Continued learning German.
2021: Joined a Startup for 2 years & did wonderful things
2022: Founded a digital marketing agency. Quit learning German (again).

The Weird Flex but OK: 🤨

- I have an unhealthy obsession to chicken nuggets.
- I watch videos on x1.5 / x2 speed because I need things to move faster (yes, that includes Netflix too).
- Backgammon is my game but I picked up Chess more seriously recently.
- English is not my first language so I’ve been studying it for 25 years to become fluent.
- This also means I take my grammar, punctuations, and vocabulary very seriously - to the point I get agitated if my text has mistakes.
- This has served me well in my academic writing but it’s completely useless for copywriting.
- Over the years I have applied to over 400 jobs, only receiving 12 replies total and getting hired twice - meaning a 0.5% success rate.
- Meanwhile, there were 43,330 people who applied for Harvard College in 2023 - only 1,950 of which were admitted - totalling to a 4.5% admission rate.
- This means I have a better chance to study at Harvard than get a job.
- I love to write. Hence this overkill of an intro…
