Hi, I am Nannette. 

I am a German living in the US for almost 10 years now, with my lovely husband Henning ❤️  and our pup Sam (the only US citizen). 🐶 

I am 49 years old and once again do not care if you are telling me not to share my age. It's just a number!
Much like anything else, it doesn't define me! 😉 

Many years ago I decided to be the heroine of my story and not the life-long victim of an abusive family situation and bullying. 🙌 
I never looked back (well maybe a small peek here and there...). 

Every day I am working hard to be the compassionate and caring leader I could have used in the past. 😍 

A one to one meeting with me in the office can be very business focused or we can end up sharing thoughts about overcoming grief, past trauma or how to best mentally prepare for retirement. 🤗 
Because what matters to my people, matters to me. 

I work in Corporate but 9-5 is not my thing and I strongly believe leadership duties do not end when the work day ends. You need me? I will try to be there for you ❣ 
Unless you need a getaway driver, then I'd likely send my hubby. 

Colleagues or my team aren't family. Caring for them has nothing to do with being friends either. I am caring for everyone in my team and organization - those close to me and those who keep their distance. 💚  
Equally. 

I don't say "I love you" lightly because I didn't grow up in a family that talked about emotions a lot. But know I do care a lot and if you are my husband or my pup, I definitely love you! 😁 

Don't tell me secrets "that I can't share with anyone". My family managed to have so many secrets, I have done my secret keeping duty for a lifetime. 😆 
You can trust me and confide in me - but please don't gossip!

I believe that One Size Does Not Fit All 💚 ! No matter if it's socks (seriously - they do not fit!) or the way people choose to live, love, believe, work, identify and so on. 

I am the person in the picture with that awesome cute pot of purple tulips in her hand, that a crafty member of my previous team made for her. 🙏  

And that is the essence of who I am striving to be as a person and a leader. 

I want to be the one who you remember very fondly, who has shared about her personal life and wasn't always only "business", so that you know she loves purple and her favorite flowers are tulips. 

And because of the way she treated you and made you feel, you feel compelled to spend hours crocheting a gift for her birthday. 

That is the person I'd like to be. 💜💜💜

If you only consider hiring employed candidates, are you also just dating married people? 🤔










Seriously though, unemployed candidates are not less skilled or less qualified.

Being unemployed doesn’t mean they’re “damaged”. 

Let’s stop treating them like they are a piece of fruit that has dropped off a truck.

Let’s not exclude them from our candidate pool.

Let’s not lowball them on salary & benefits.

Let’s be decent human beings and do the right thing - all things equal after interviewing them,

let’s hire the unemployed candidate❣️

I get it, you like playing with fire and want to flirt with someone who is taken. You like the thrill!

But are you ready to deliver?

I mean they left a fairly happy “marriage” for you. You told them how great they are and all the great things that are better with you.

Are you able to deliver on that?

Sure the marriage likely wasn’t perfect to begin with or they’d not be leaving.

What happens though when they figure out the grass isn’t really greener?

Take that unemployed candidate. 

They will be super excited and go above and beyond to thank you for the opportunity.

5 lessons for (work-) life I learned during my pursuit of better health and fitness:

(happy 6 year maintained weight loss anniversary to me❣️)










❤️ You gotta appreciate where you are first to move on successfully. 

-> applies to body weight as much as place in our career.

❤️ Stop comparing yourself.

-> either it frustrates or it makes you satisfied too early. It’s not a good motivator.

❤️ Your “why” needs to be strong.

-> it’s your fuel to keep going whenever things get difficult. In work and weightloss activities alike.

❤️ Don’t obsess with goals.

-> enjoy the process and celebrate YOUR progress. Always. 

❤️ Find a community of people who “get you”.

-> very little things can be fully done alone / all by yourself. And for sure it’s better and easier with other by your side.

Jobseekers & employees alike: Are you driving your own career bus? 🚌








Sure, you can wait at the bus stop for someone else to come by and pick you up. There is no guarantee though that you will like the next stop or the final destination. 

Quite frankly, it's more likely that no bus will show up at all. 

Don't wait for someone else to move your career along for you. 

It's not going to happen!

You own effort is going to be required. 

And funnily enough, when you are intentional and get to work, more support will present itself.

That's how it was for me and I am seeing it happen all the time!

Whether you are currently employed or searching for a job, consider your career like a road trip. 

There will be bumps in the road, road blocks, detours. 

That is OK. 

Make your peace with it now. 🕊 

Prepare for a road trip where the travel time is unknown at this point. 

As much as we plan, there are always circumstances we can't control. 

Here is what I would do, to remain in that driver seat:

Figure out your direction. 🗺 
Don't get hung up on a destination, things might change! A leader once told me, you might have to take a job you didn't think you want as a stepping stone to the next one. He did. So did I. It works. 

Understand your "why" - this is your fuel ⛽  and super important!
Be clear and detailed. And yes "making money to live, eat and have housing" is a strong why it all depends on YOUR situation. Ignore the court of public opinions. 👩‍⚖️ 

Find guides you trust. 🤝 
This can be a mentor, a coach, a friend who really gets you (and doesn't project their own goals on you). Just in case you get lost on the way or lose focus. Ask for help along the way! Don't be me when I can't find something in the grocery store. 🙄 

Stay flexible. 🤸‍♀️ 
Any plan we make is always only as good as our ability to pivot. Without regrets, anger, frustration. Just understanding that it is normal and OK and might lead to something better. 
That's what I did with my current role. I wanted to inherit my leader's job. Or so I thought. Until I pivoted when things weren't moving. And boy am I glad I did! 

You have to drive that 🚌 yourself, don't get distracted by the billboards along the way (aka LinkedIn influencers telling you what you should or should not be doing).

However, you can totally ask those who have been on similar road trips before, for their experience and tips. 

Especially if they arrived at whatever their final destination was or at least totally enjoyed their journey.

Bottom line:

Own your career and put in the work - employed or unemployed! 

Have a plan (direction) but stay flexible to pivot if it serves your immediate needs!

Corporate is not a prison. 








Or a rat race. 🐀 

I am not actually stuck. 
There is no "grind" here either.
I am not being screamed at daily.
I am not chained to my desk from 9-5. 
My leader isn't micromanaging me at all.  
I don't feel like I am suffocating or drowning or both. 
Never had to give up my personal life or justify breaks or PTO. 
Did not have to sacrifice my mental health when things got bad with Covid.

Am I being dramatic? 

No. Not me. 

Those are all things I have been reading as reasons why people left Corporate and are so much better for it. 

Of course some of them are now also selling the dream of escaping Corporate to employees and jobseekers alike and I guess a bit of drama just sells better. 

Can some of the above happen? For sure. Not likely literally (rats? chains?) but yes, working in Corporate can be miserable. 

Funny thing though - let me share some situations I have been absolutely miserable in:

😩 Being unemployed and unable to contribute to our family income. 
😩 Working for a startup run by a narcissistic, aggressive control freak. 
😩 Joining a midsize company who asked me to do things I wasn't hired for.
😩 Being self-employed doing acquisition instead of what I loved doing. 

None of the things that made me miserable happened in my Corporate jobs. 

So, Corporate, the land of milk and honey? 

No, there is work that needs to be done.  

I have been bullied in the past, "bad leaders" likely still get promoted into the wrong positions and some think they should control other human adults. For sure. 

And I get it, you left Corporate because you "deserve" better.  You probably do as you are one of the "good ones". Too good for Corporate. 

Let me ask you this though - if all the "good ones" are leaving, who is going to be left to drive change for more... 

Equality in representation 
Caring leadership
Compassion
Inclusion
Equity

That doesn't have to be you! 

I chose to go that path and I am good with it!

And I am just asking if we really have to lift up what we are doing by putting others and their choices down? 

Can we not acknowledge if you really need a job and some extend of financial security and benefits, a Corporate job can absolutely be the right thing for you? 

That not everyone has it in them to be a solopreneur or coach? 

And that in fact you can have a really fulfilling and satisfying time in Corporate. 

Because I do.

Please don't buy into the "work-life-balance" nonsense. 







Work doesn't exist outside our life. It's a part of it. 

How big of a part is of course up to us. But it's impossible to "balance" one with the other. 

Work-life-balance implies that one is good (your life) and the other is not (work) and now go figure out how to balance the two. 

"Go, go, go! You can't have an imbalance here. It's bad! And companies that don't make that happen for you are too!"

As if anyone in a busy life (work and personal) needs any added stress and pressure to make sure personal life and work are always balanced. 

Newsflash, that's not how life works. 

It's not about a fancy term that you should be aspiring too. 

It's about YOU having YOUR own priorities straight. ❤️ 

Sometimes my family life takes priority over work. 

Other times a work project or deliverable beats the rest for a limited period. 

And when I want to be totally crazy, I am even planning for some "me" time - just for myself and make that a priority. 

It's on me to make sure how I am prioritizing all elements of my life is actually working for me. 

That it allows me to 

Grow and strive in my career.
Be present in my personal life.
Live, love, work and enjoy my life. 
Rest & recharge for physical and mental wellbeing. 

So, instead of wondering how the heck to achieve work-life-balance, look at what matters to your in your life, understand what has to take precedence and why at any given point in time and then make peace with it, too.

That last step is important. 

As much as we would love for everything to always be balanced, that is just not possible and that is OK. As long as it works in the grand scheme of things. 

If it doesn't? 

Time to think about some change!

Let me send you into your (holiday) weekend with this thought:

"If hunger is not the problem, food is not the answer!" 🤯








Holiday family gatherigs can be stressful and even nerve wracking. 😫

Trust me, I have been there…

So, not surprisingly we often times feel like eating something, when we are actually

Thirsty (really, it's a thing).
Suppressing emotions.
Avoiding conflict.
Frustrated.
Angry.
Tired.

And so on.

Sometimes it’s worth taking a pause and listening to our mind and gut to understand what it is that we really need.

It might be a nap, a venting session, a walk in fresh air, a break, change of scenery, a hug, more joy and so on.

What we likely don't need it is a whole bag of candy Easter Eggs or a human body sized chocolate Easter Bunny.

Not saying don't eat it.

Just saying it might not be what you need.

You do you - no judgment! 😎

The same applies to our jobs as well btw.

Not the chocolate part...

Often times we are getting into taking actions, before we actually understand the real problem or issue.

Which is usually as effective as throwing antibiotics at a viral infection.

Here is what we should be asking ourselves first:

❓What is really happening?
❓What is it that I don't know or am not seeing (yet) that would be important context?
❓What (not who, we aren't into blaming here!) is causing this?
❓How is what I am planning to do going to help? Is it going to help?

Then? Act accordingly. Or not.

Sometimes - with hunger as with "perceived problems" it's best to let the moment pass.

Bottom line:

Don't eat, when you aren't hungry! Literally and figuratively.
