Duolingo’s CEO just declared war on human workers with an “AI-first” strategy—calling humans “bottlenecks” while slashing contractors! Duolingo’s CEO Luis von Ahn with his 2025 “AI-first” strategy, following Shopify’s lead to replace contractors with AI for content creation and more. He claims it’s about “removing bottlenecks” to free up employees for creative work, but let’s call it what it is: a ruthless efficiency grab that’s already axed 10% of contractors (per Washington Post, 2023) before, and now it seems to be cutting more or even, stop using “ALL” contractors. X users are roasting the hypocrisy—von Ahn says he cares about employees while labeling humans as bottlenecks. Is this the future of work or a soulless race to the bottom? With digital-native companies jumping on the AI bandwagon, are we witnessing innovation or a betrayal of the workforce? Sound off: Is Duolingo’s AI obsession genius or dystopian? #Duolingo #AI #JobCuts #TechControversy
AIO vs SEO. How do you optimize for AIO?
Oliver Molander
This is an incredibly fundamental shift that we’re not talking enough about 👇 The ongoing AI platform shift is quietly dismantling SEO as we know it. As Andrej Karpathy recently pointed out on X: “It’s 2025 and most content is still written for humans instead of LLMs. 99.9% of attention is about to be LLM attention, not human attention.” Think about it: when researching software today, operational buyers and procurement teams are increasingly using AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity. Typing something like “Compare Salesforce & Hubspot for a 10-person sales team - which is better?" into an AI assistant is rapidly becoming the norm. This shift has massive implications for B2B marketers and sales teams: ✅ SEO is no longer enough ✅ The traditional “10 blue links” search model is fading ✅ The AI does the discovery work now, not the user ✅ Companies must now optimize for LLMs (not just Google search) As Tomasz Tunguz and others have noted, AIO (AI Optimization) will emerge as the new frontier in content and inbound strategy. Some early signs: ➡️ G2’s traffic is down 50% in two years post-ChatGPT (Elena Verna) ➡️ We've all read about how e.g. StackOverflow’s traffic and PMF are crumbling ➡️ As a concrete startup example - StackAI now receives more inbound from ChatGPT & Perplexity than from Google (per Antoni Rosinol) As Erik Wikander put it: 1️⃣ AI will do the heavy lifting in information discovery 2️⃣ The search results page is dying 3️⃣ Companies must optimize for AI aggregation, not human eyeballs We’re at the start of a major shift in search, discovery, and attention. E.g. HubSpot, Figma and Canva are loosing organic traffic due to content that is now answered by AI - as seen in the 3-month charts below. And yes - I know Similarweb data isn’t perfect, but the trend lines are too clear to ignore. SEO is dead. Long live AIO! #artificialintelligence

If you Google 'supply chain risk management' you will get a wide variety of results. Is this a problem? I think so. Solving business problems often starts with a clear definition of the problem and available solutions; being clear and precise matters. Over the next few days I will publish a series of short articles in an attempt to unpack this - not to create THE definitive definition or categorization but to highlight the challenges, make suggestions and get a discussion going. I’ll start today with some thoughts on the basic definition and categorization. Now Apple should put country first or devalue and perish in the long term.
Linas Beliūnas
Tim Cook brilliantly explains why Apple chooses China for manufacturing. It's NOT about cheap labor. China hasn't been low-cost for years. So why China? → Skill. → Precision. → Scale. Apple CEO Tim Cook says China can fill "multiple football fields" with expert tooling engineers. America simply can't match that - yet. China built this expertise through decades of industrial planning and infrastructure. Meanwhile, the U.S. prioritized careers in tech and entertainment over vocational training. Tariffs alone won't fix this skill gap. Automation helps - but America (or India) needs infrastructure and training to truly compete. Manufacturing is hard. Manufacturing Automation – Making the Deal Purchasing Automation is EASY, if you skip the HAGGLING! -- "TRILLIONS" of FDI Dollars PROMISED over an indeterminate Time Horizon, [Approximately equal to Attention Span], makes for UGE photo ops and gives solace to the INEFFICIENT status quo .... But .... At the Firm Level, Sooner or Later it dawns that haggling over the PRICE is a Wasteful PRICE DISCOVERY Exercise, as that price is KNOWN Upfront! "Manufacturing automation is an economic investment aimed at increasing productivity, not an opportunity to “haggle” over price or play a game of “guess the ROI” for all concerned." Oh ... and don't be SHOCKED to find out that the Automation Supplier intends to make a Profit on the Deal! Purchasing Automation is EASY, if you skip the HAGGLING! Let's figure it out together! What are you working on that I can help with? -- "A Common Sequence in Evaluating an Opportunity to Automate a Process 1. Someone suggests the idea of automation, (maybe an internal engineer or a potential supplier of automation solutions, a distributor, a systems integrator, a consultant, etc.). 2. A system functional specification, a URS or a general description may be generated, either internally or in collaboration with a consultant or prospective supplier. 3. A request for quotation is issued to one or several prospective suppliers. 4. After some time and effort, which may or may not include some concept development efforts and clarifications of the requirements, proposals for the project start to come in. 5. After an initial front-line review by the requestor and the immediate team, (which may include procurement, manufacturing engineering, the operations end user team and perhaps others), the project either gets shelved because it’s deemed “too expensive” or a CapEx request is prepared for management approval. 6. That CapEx approval may take quite some time and ultimately involves many factors as the prospective project is competing with other priorities for scarce company investments … but the evaluation always includes an ROI calculation based on the company’s standard formulas. 7. At some point a decision to proceed with the project comes back, yea or nay and this phase is completed, as the project proceeds or is denied! What’s wrong with this Approach?" -- Do you "Cut to the Chase" or WASTE Time Haggling for your Automation? Chinese AI era seems rocking from this video. I was in India last week and the government is lamenting about VC funding and innovation in food delivery and consumption space, not robotics etc. While in the USA, we are chasing short term gains. We need to create and fund more moonshots.

𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗳𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮’𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝘂𝘅𝘂𝗿𝘆 & 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 — disrupting brands and empowering designers. A $25 Coach bag or 80% off furniture on TikTok tells a story! Trade tensions are revealing a game-changing reality: China’s grip on luxury goods and furniture manufacturing is reshaping global markets. A viral TikTok video highlights how Chinese OEM factories are selling directly to consumers, while designers and architects are sourcing custom pieces at a fraction of the cost. Here’s the big picture: 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮’𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲: China produces 40% of the world’s furniture ($180B annually) and crafts 70% of global luxury fashion for brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Prada. The furniture eCommerce market alone is projected to hit $1,773B in 2025 (Statista). 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘂𝘁: Escalating tariffs are driving up costs for luxury brands like Nike and LVMH (Jing Daily, April 11, 2025). U.S. furniture brands like RH, Crate & Barrel, and Ethan Allen, reliant on Chinese imports for components like recliner mechanisms and fabrics, face higher costs and competition from OEM direct sales, threatening their margins. 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Personal experience shows Architects in India and Dubai source custom pieces from China’s 50,000+ manufacturers, getting Arhaus-level craftsmanship at 80% less than U.S. retail. A $21,000 Pottery Barn living room set costs $3,500, and a $10,000 CB2 dining table drops to $1,500—shipping included. Platforms like Alibaba and AI tools like Flexport make it seamless, though tariffs (10-25%) and 30-50 day shipping apply. 𝗢𝗘𝗠 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲: Factories skip R&D costs, a strategy Lenovo used to dominate after acquiring IBM’s PC business in 2005. Remember this, it felt like the PC business was stolen from IBM! 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸: Luxury logos may lose appeal as consumers and designers opt for identical quality at lower prices. Last week, Investors are shorting LVMUY stock, anticipating a decline. This is a wake-up call for brands and an opportunity for designers. Will tariffs spark a sourcing boom, or will U.S. brands pivot to local production? Have you sourced from China or considered it for your projects? Share your take! #LuxuryGoods #FurnitureMarket #GlobalSourcing #TradeWar #InteriorDesign

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦: In today’s fast-paced tech landscape, engineering teams are under pressure to ship code faster without compromising quality. But can AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot really deliver in a high-stakes enterprise environment—without introducing bugs or security risks? 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: ANZ Bank, one of Australia’s Big Four banks, decided to find out. They ran a 6-week experiment with 1,000 engineers, splitting them into two groups: one with GitHub Copilot and one without. The goal? To test if AI could boost productivity, maintain code quality, and improve developer satisfaction in real-world production tasks. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧—𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬: The findings were game-changing: - 42% faster coding velocity, shaving months off delivery timelines. - 20% more tickets completed, with no drop in quality or security. - Happier devs: 60% reported less context-switching, and 50% felt more focused. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒔𝒎𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒉 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈—some devs found Copilot’s suggestions vague, highlighting the need for thoughtful integration, training, and team collaboration to maximize its potential. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲: AI coding tools can be a force multiplier for enterprises, but success depends on empowering devs with the right support and strategies. The future of software development is here—just don’t put it on autopilot!Shoutout to the ANZ team for their groundbreaking work (see the team in action below)! Bill Gates says AI will lead to a two-day work week by 2035. Let’s be real — is anyone actually willing to take half the pay for half the time? The answer is a resounding No. While AI is absolutely transforming productivity and workflows, the idea that we’ll all be clocking out after Tuesday feels more like clickbait than foresight. AI will reshape roles, create new efficiencies, and augment decision-making — but it won’t rewrite fundamental economics overnight. Let’s focus less on the headlines and more on how to ethically, practically, and strategically integrate AI into business to drive sustainable value — not just speculation. Are we heading toward a two-day work week or just dreaming in binary? Whats your take? #AI #FutureOfWork #DigitalTransformation #Leadership #BillGates #WorkforceStrategy #LinkedInDiscussion
My AI Tools & Habits—What’s Powering My Work in 2025 AI is evolving FAST, and so are my habits! As a CIO/Tech Enthusiast, I’m always tinkering with tools to stay ahead. Here’s my current AI lineup, ranked by preference, and why they’re in my toolkit—plus a few surprises! 1. ChatGPT Why? Image generation is still a banger—creates visuals that pop for presentations and posts. Content generation? Eh, it’s feeling a bit meh lately—lacking the spark it once had. Anyone else noticing this? 2. Grok Why? My dark horse! I’ve been leaning HARD into Grok (from xAI) for content creation. The outputs are sharp, creative, and just hit different. It’s stealing the show from my old favorites. What’s your take on Grok? 3. Perplexity Why? Research beast! I lean on it for deep dives and love the auto-generated citations—saves me hours. Perfect for validating ideas or sparking new ones. 4. Gemini & Notebook Why? Balanced and reliable, but I’m gravitating elsewhere. It’s like a solid teammate—always there, but not always the MVP. Still great for quick checks or structured tasks. 5. CoPilot Why? My go-to for spitting out data in Microsoft Office formats. But, honestly, it feels like it’s riding ChatGPT’s coattails and losing some edge. Anyone finding it less punchy lately? 6. Claude Why? Been a while since I fired this one up! I’m itching to dive back in for agentic workflows and data crunching. Used to be a staple before Grok stole my heart. Planning a comeback—any Claude fans out there? What’s the takeaway? AI isn’t one-size-fits-all. I mix and match based on the task, and my habits are always shifting. What tools are YOU obsessed with right now? Drop your stack below—I’m curious! #AI #TechTrends #Innovation #Productivity #FutureOfWork Actual pic of my phone apps stack April 2025
Surprise Recession & Technology Industry expectations - Research suggests a surprise recession could cut tech budgets, disrupt supply chains, and lead to layoffs, impacting IT projects. It seems likely that CIOs might focus on cost-saving tech like cloud and AI, potentially boosting innovation despite budget cuts. The evidence leans toward opportunities for strategic tech investments, but outcomes depend on how firms adapt to sudden changes.
