I don’t think a lot of people want to see their friends win.

It’s kind of a strange concept when you think of it but deep down, your friends want you to be successful but not more successful than them.

It’s why you often see wealthy folks hang with other wealthy folks. There’s a bit less envy going on. Definitely still some lingering envy, like who has a bigger boat, but it’s far less apparent than what we see amongst the majority of people.

I bring this up because when I was watching UFC300 last night (which was an absolute banger of a card), I saw DUDE Wipes pop up on the screen multiple times, plus the logo was on the canvas, plus Bruce Buffer said the tagline over and over again during prefight announcements, and all I kept thinking was, fkkkkk yeahhhhh, that’s my dude Sean Riley and he’s killing it right now! 

My kids even weigh in and say, “isn’t that your friend’s company?” And I say, fkkk yeah it is. (I may or may not swear)

I’m not saying, good on me for not being a hater. I’m saying, I wish that was the natural reaction of everyone who had a friend putting up big wins. 

It’s so much easier said the done, I totally get it. In fact, looking back, I too had envy in my heart for many years. It pained me a bit to see someone doing better than me, often people I knew, some I loved. 

But over time, I realized that it’s a whole lot easier just to genuinely applaud the homies, and most importantly, hope that they’re genuinely applauding back.

There’s no greater energy than that which is positive, the more you put out, the more it comes back to you.

My daughter giving me moral support tonight in our garage gym. She has seen me come in here every night for the past 4 weeks to do 40 minutes of cardio, as it’s coming down to the wire for my show (13 days away). When I tell my kids, I’m going to the garage (after what’s already been a long day), she’s the first one to ask, “can I come with you?” I think she can see in my face that I’m tired and would rather not do it - she’s a special force, a beautiful soul, my best bud (my son is too). Just wanted to share some love on the internet. Happy Saturday.

44, and the healthiest I’ve ever been in my entire life.

And not, physically. 

Mentally. 

Which is far more important to me.

If you’re struggling mentally, as I did for so many years (and still do every so often), the greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of honesty.

Looking yourself in the mirror, looking at all your life’s challenges, and deciding to make a change.

It could be to quit drinking (I did that).
It could be to work out daily (I do that).
It could be to eat more whole foods and less bullsh*t (I do that).
It could be to prioritize sleep (I do that).
It could be to find better relationships (I’m working on that).
It could be to check in with your career goals (I do that).

Ultimately they all land on…

Stop with excuses (I’m working on that).

There’s a list of things you can be doing, things you should be focused on to allow yourself more peace, more happiness, more clarity, more focus.

All leading to a better mental state.

I talk about this so often on here because I know what it’s like to feel helpless. 

To feel as though the days are dark, and there is no light ahead. 

And I’m here to tell you, that it’s not true. 

If you are willing to put in the work, if you’re willing to face yourself with pure honesty and intent, the light will shine upon you in ways you have never felt before.

After dialing in what I always thought was my physical health these last 4 months, I discovered I was actually dialing in my mental health. 

Elevating my mind, body and soul to whole new levels.

With that, I’ve found immense clarity on who I am, what I am, what I represent, where I’m at, where I want to be and how I’ll get there. 

I can’t wait to share more of this journey with you, more of my plans, more of how I’ll be getting there - all in hopes it inspires at least one of you to grow, to level up, to expand to new heights - cause we all can, we all have the ability, so long we’re honest with ourselves, and make ourselves a priority - especially our health. 

Life isn’t a straight line. I’ve had so many more downturns than I can count, so many obstacles, many of which were self inflicted. But this back half of my life is mine to control - mine to win.

As cliche as it is, at 44, I’m just getting started.

Just had a 30 minute call about a distributor deductions report that I just received on Friday - it's one that is reconciled from last year. 

I say this with all the love in my heart...

Distributor deductions has to be the biggest Achilles heel of the industry. 

And not the actual deductions. 

To me, the Achilles heel is truly understanding where they're coming from and how they're actually reconciled, especially if there are delays in reporting, delays in backup documents, and all-around misfiring of information.  

And let me paint a really fair picture, this is coming from someone who supports the distribution model, supports the business model of both big and small distributors, because all in all, they are running a business. They created a model that somehow works for them, and somehow works for the thousands and thousands of customers (brands) that sign those long contracts. 

But it still doesn't take away from the fact that sometimes I just want to say...

7 more days until my first ever physique show.

I’m just a dad, like many of you on here, that waited until the ripe age of 44 to make it happen.

I’m nervous, excited, scared, anxious, inspired, motivated, focused, all in one. 

But I’m ready.

I’ve put in the work, I’ve stayed disciplined and more exciting than anything, I look forward to what’s next. 

Cause, yes, I have some plans. 

I’m going to go harder, I’m going to set a higher bar, commit to bigger things.

This is just the start of a new journey, a rode I found that’s lighting me up more than any other road I’ve been on before. 

And I’m not just talking health and wellness, that’s just the cornerstone. 

There will still be plenty of bumps and bruises along the way but my North Star is in check, I’m just going to be running after that every morning that g-d gives me the chance to wake up. 

PS: yes, that may be one of the shirt designs by my new brand, Lifting With David launching at the end of April - we have a few we’re deciding on now. Details to come.

PSS: that word in Hebrew is, Mishpacha. That means, Family.

Just had lunch with Jonathan Sebastiani at his winery in Sonoma. If you’ve never been to Viansa Winery and Marketplace, make it a point to stop by, it’s a beautiful property, with amazing views and great food. The best part about us meeting today, there was no agenda. Just two Bay Area CPG folks meeting up to talk about business, and health and wellness. And we probably spent more time talking on health and wellness, something he has the same amount of passion as I do. As I always remind people, build community with those going in the direction you are, some may be ahead of you and that’s OK, just make sure you’re in the room, make sure you’re part of the conversation, make sure you’re moving up and to the right. Only good things can happen.
