From Shortages to IPO: What Raspberry Pi Can Teach Us

I stumbled upon a fascinating factory tour of Raspberry Pi by Jeff Geerling (link below). It motivated me to dig deeper: after years of supply shortages, how is Raspberry Pi doing today?

And more importantly – what can we learn from their journey?

Here’s what stood out:

✅ In 2023, CEO Eben Upton promised 1M units per month to clear massive backlogs.

✅ By mid-2025, the backlog dropped to ~600k units, with production stabilizing at ~0.6M per month.

✅ In 2024, Raspberry Pi went public on the London Stock Exchange – a clear sign of resilience and maturity.


The common thread? Automation.

High-speed robots, automated inspection, and full functional testing allowed Raspberry Pi to turn crisis into growth.

👉 The lesson: automation is not just about efficiency. It’s about resilience, scalability, and unlocking opportunities that would otherwise be impossible.

🔧 Somewhere in the engine factory… a cobot found its place


A factory is not only about steel and machines.
