I see organisations and leaders want to communicate in a way that their audience remembers and be inspired enough to take action.  

But not always everyone is able to do that, while a few of them do it well. The difference, stories, and the way it is told – storytelling.

Over the course of my professional journey, I have realised that storytelling in business is a powerful tool for organisations and leaders.

It has helped me in my sales and marketing roles. 

My business narratives are shaped by a deep understanding of the business world combined with my experience in leading marketing, supporting leaders in crafting their communication and employer branding over the last 15+ years.

I am a passionate writer. I was awarded by the US Consulate in Chennai for a blog on US – India relations (www.harleymangotango.wordpress.com). The name of the blog also got me some brownie points.

I have spoken at Indian Institute of Technology Madras in their start-up events, VIT University, TA Pai Management Institute and my thought leadership on marketing and telecom industry are published in Economic Times – Brand Equity, ET Telecom, Yourstory Media, Start-up Business News, Entrepreneur, Voice and Data Magazine.

I love business thrillers, no wonder John Grisham and Ravi Subramanian are my favourite authors in fiction. In non-fiction, I enjoy reading Morgan Housel, Adam Grant, Shiv Shivakumar and Mihir Dalal to name a few.

More recently, my thoughts are shaped by Dr Paul Kalanithi’s When Breath Becomes Air and Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning.

I enjoy conversations around marketing, books, writing, new themes emerging in the business world, personal finance, stock markets, kids and parenting!

During my school and college days, I was passionate about quizzing, and that inquisitiveness to learn and read about new things is a trait I carry to this day.

Have been part of the Telecom, Media & Technology industry since 2008. I have a proven track record in setting up and scaling teams in marketing, demand generation and inside sales functions.

Strange, isn’t it? We envy the people who followed their calling… yet we copy the people who chased their careers.

This contradiction isn’t new but Gallup quantified it.

In 2019, they asked Americans a simple question:
“What makes someone successful?”

The majority didn’t say money.
They didn’t say title.
They didn’t say influence.

97% said this instead:
A person is successful if they’ve followed their interests and talents to become the best they can at what they care about most.

In other words:
We admire people who choose to be alive and lived.

But here’s the twist, when asked, "How do you think others define success?" 92% people switched definitions:

Suddenly success meant:
salary
job prestige
visibility
status

We want others to be free.
We want ourselves to be validated.

That tension between what we value and what we chase — is where modern unhappiness breeds.

And Joseph Campbell warned us about this decades ago:
“People think they can save their world by shifting things around changing the rules, who’s on top… No. Any world is valid if it’s alive. The thing to do is find where the life is… and become alive yourself.”

But we don’t look for life.
We look for upgrades.

New role.
New company.
New boss.
New compensation.

Same emptiness inside.

Because rearranging the world is easy.
Becoming alive is not.

A job can give you structure.
A title can give you identity.
Money can give you safety.

But none of these can give you aliveness.
Success isn’t the career you optimise.
It’s the life you animate.

The real question isn’t “What job should I chase?”
Shouldnt' we all must be asking “Where am I most alive?"
