* As the Board of Directors Chair and former President, I regularly:

In my many years working with humanitarian organizations across the Middle East and Africa, I witnessed leadership in its rawest form—under pressure, in motion, with lives on the line.

When conflict erupted, everything changed overnight. Plans dissolved. Resources stretched thin. And yet—teams mobilized.

If you’ve been avoiding feedback, try this 3-step approach:

✔ Start with facts, not feelings
✔ Share the impact, not judgment
✔ Invite dialogue, not defense

Because the real harm isn’t in saying the hard thing—it’s in waiting too long to say it."

Nearly half of employees with poor onboarding experiences are planning to quit their jobs in the next six months (Software Finder, 2025).

The research highlights a direct link between onboarding and retention:
* 48% of poorly onboarded employees want to leave.
* 67% said onboarding didn’t accurately reflect their role or company culture.
* Many described the process as disorganized, rushed, or even overwhelming.

The message is clear: onboarding can make—or break—retention.

So how do we get it right? Here are 5 proven ways to strengthen onboarding:
1️⃣ Set clear expectations — be transparent about responsibilities, goals, and how success will be measured.
2️⃣ Invest in training early — provide tools, systems access, and skill-building in the first weeks.
3️⃣ Give a cultural preview — help employees understand values, behaviors, and “how things get done here.”
4️⃣ Follow up after 90 days — re-onboarding or check-ins prevent disconnection once the “honeymoon phase” ends.
5️⃣ Prioritize connection — pair new hires with buddies or mentors to build relationships and psychological safety.

When employees feel informed, supported, and connected, they’re not just onboarded—they’re inspired to stay.

One of the greatest joys in my work is stepping into the training room myself. Facilitating isn’t just part of my role as a founder—it’s the part I cherish most.

There’s something extraordinary about watching people connect the dots, seeing the “aha” moments, and witnessing the confidence that comes when learning turns into understanding. Those moments are why I love this work.

Ever left a meeting thinking: “Wait... what did we just decide?”

You’re not alone. Research shows only 15% of leaders consistently communicate key results clearly (Culture Partners).

Leadership isn’t about flooding people with information. It’s about focusing their attention.

Here’s a simple practice:
At the end of every meeting, summarize the key outcomes in three clear sentences.
If you can’t, the message isn’t actionable enough.

Clarity is a leadership skill — and your team feels it immediately.

👉 On a scale of 1–10, how clear would your team say you are today?

“𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁.”

That’s what participants told me in a training this week when we introduced the Eisenhower Matrix — a classic tool for prioritizing tasks by urgency and importance.

Here’s the truth: not everything can be both urgent and important. When everything feels that way, it’s usually a sign of poor delegation, unclear priorities, or reactive work culture.

So what do you do?

✔ 𝗥𝗲-𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Does this task actually move the needle for your team or organization, or is it just noise?
✔ 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: If a task is truly urgent but not critical to your role, empower someone else to handle it.
✔ 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Urgent + important tasks should align with your highest responsibilities, not pull you away from them.
✔ 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 “𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁”: This is where strategy, growth, and innovation live — but only if you protect time for it.

The Eisenhower Matrix is more than a productivity tool. It’s a leadership tool. It forces us to ask: Am I spending my time on what truly matters, or just reacting to what’s loudest?
