Stichting Behoud Zeepunter KU12 Anna Maria

In 2018 the 107-year-old KU12 ended up in Workum, where a refit turned out to be no longer enough. That is why in 2020 a major restoration has started in which a lot of wood is to be replaced. 

In addition to the restoration, the Foundation also wanted to make the Punter more sustainable and improve the sailing characteristics. That is why the Foundation has contacted NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden to help with this. The research on the KU12 is as follows: How can a modern and efficient sailing Punter be made of the 107-year-old KU12?
In order to answer this research question, a large number of sub-questions have been drawn up. For example, the Foundation wanted to know whether it is possible to use a liftable pod motor, in addition, an efficient propellor had to be calculated. The rudder had to be changed so that the KU12 would have better manoeuvring capabilities. In addition, there are a number of other questions about the stability and lay-out of the KU12.

During my internship at De Vries Makkum (Feadship) I worked for six weeks in different departments within the company. I worked at the interior-, exterior- and stainless steel department.

Growing up in The Netherlands, surrounded by the lakes and the seas, Guy Fleury’s passion for the water, sailing and yachts developed from a young age. This is the reason why Guy chose to study Naval Architecture in Leeuwarden. The study in combination with sailing is a good inspiration for the photos that he takes.

Guy is an all-round photographer, he is specialised in exterior-, interior-, lifestyle- and building process photos. It is not only photography that plays an important role in his work, but also the making of company films, instruction films and time-lapses.
