This is what #RemoteWork actually looks like 👀 

Yesterday, I had foot surgery🦶🔪
Today, I’m posting from bed with my foot elevated above my heart. My orthopedic surgeon told me I should take three weeks off work.

Three weeks🤯

But here’s the reality - 

Because I work remotely and for a human-led company like Recognize, I’m only taking two days off plus the weekend, and then I’ll be back online. Laptop, pillows, foot in the air!

Not because anyone forced me to.
Because remote work actually makes it possible.

And it got me thinking…

What do people do when they don’t have that option?

If you work in a role that requires you to physically be somewhere, and you need surgery with a long recovery - what happens?

Most organizations aren’t exactly handing out three weeks of paid sick leave. And most people can’t afford to disappear from their job for that long.

So what’s the plan?

• Delay the surgery?
• Drain your PTO?
• Hope your job is still there when you come back?

Our healthcare is tied to employment, but our concept of work hasn’t caught up to real life.

Maybe the future looks like:
	•	four-day work weeks
	•	real sick leave
	•	flexible work environments
	•	or even mandatory time off so people actually heal

Because here’s the truth: even after three weeks, I won’t be at 100%. The full recovery timeline for this surgery is six months.

I’m incredibly grateful that remote work gives me the flexibility to keep working while healing.

But it also raises a bigger question:

What would you do if you needed surgery that required three weeks of recovery?
Could you actually take that time?

It’s not only our healthcare system that needs to be revamped (and not tied to employment), but also our work system.

I did not anticipate the emotional toll that not walking would have on me 🚶‍♀️ 

Kinda ironic too, because I just watched Song Sung Blue before my foot surgery, and I struggled to connect with the main character (Claire Sardina) when she became massively depressed after a partial leg amputation. 

Humans are made to move. And I move a lot. Sitting here with my leg propped up, 24/7 is way more challenging than I anticipated. 

I’m so, so grateful for #RemoteWork that allows me to keep my mind a bit occupied right now. 


Have you ever been non-weight bearing for many weeks? I know it’s temporary, but yikes. 

I thought surgery was gonna be the hard part. Turns out, that was easy.

OpenAI (aka ChatGPT) just told the U.S. government: "Sure, use our AI to spy on people." 👿

Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei refused to allow Claude to be used for domestic mass surveillance or autonomous weaponry. The U.S. government's response? They declared Anthropic a supply chain risk and blacklisted them from government contracts. 😡 

Within hours, Sam Altman announced OpenAI's deal with the DoD.
No ethical hesitation. No public debate. Just... yes. 🤯

That's not a technology company. That's a contractor. One with no morals and no ethics.

Dario Amodei took a stand that cost his company real money and real contracts, because some moral lines shouldn't be crossed, like this one. I know it's rare to see a man stand behind his beliefs for the greater good of humanity these days, so you better believe that when I do see it, I'm gonna back that up. 

If you're one of the 15+ million people who've had enough, switching is easier than you think. Paste this prompt into ChatGPT to pull everything it knows about you, then bring it into your new Claude.ai account:

The first thing I do when I join a company as a marketing leader is NOT running ads, or redesigning the website, or launching campaigns...

I go talk to sales and I ask three questions:
1️⃣ What does the process actually look like?
2️⃣ What do prospects respond well to?
3️⃣ What objections do you hear every day?

I talked about this on a recent podcast, and it's something I see in almost every startup. 

Sales conversations are the most honest market research you'll ever get.

You know what doesn’t make sense? 

When a founder reaches out to you and says they’re super interested in you joining their team and asks you to please apply… 

so you do… 

And then you receive an email that says, “thanks, but no thanks” 🙂‍↔️ 

It’s happened so frequently to me that I’ve pretty much stopped responding. 

And yes, that’s AFTER I’ve checked out the company to make sure it’s legit. 

What gives?

If AI writes all your outreach...you're just adding more noise to already crowded inboxes. 

Our inboxes are full of messages that sound identical with the same structure, tone, and way obvious automation. 

Humans are getting very good at spotting it 💯  
Our BS detectors are highly calibrated...

The irony?
AI really can be an incredible tool.

But the moment it replaces your voice instead of supporting it…
you become invisible. 👻
