I need to get something off my chest.

I'm done with the "Rockstar DJ" trope.

In the entertainment industry, we've created this ideal of the untouchable, invincible DJ who parties hard and lives fast.

But the truth is, it's not sustainable.

I've seen too many talented friends and colleagues fall into burnout because we've normalized this behavior. 

I myself had a scooter accident because of it (fatigue led me to miss an upcoming car), which almost caused me never to be able to walk or perform again.

It's time to shift the narrative.

Being a DJ doesn't have to mean sacrificing your health, relationships, and personal life.

Let's celebrate artists who prioritize self-care, who make time for their loved ones, and who use their platform for good.

I'm here to start the conversation.

Who's with me?

I didn't just wake up one day and became a DJ + entrepreneur.

I had to work hard to get to where I am today.

My journey was filled with many ups and downs.

I faced a lot of challenges, but I was determined to pursue my passion.

I started by playing at small gigs and events and slowly made my way up.

But it wasn't always easy.

I had to learn from my failures, rejections, and mistakes.

I had to overcome self-doubt and fear of rejection.

I had to constantly improve my skills and stay relevant in the ever-changing music industry.

And now, as an entrepreneur, I face similar challenges. I have to navigate the ups and downs of starting and running (and selling) a successful business.

But through it all, I've learned many valuable lessons.

I've learned the importance of persistence, hard work, and dedication.

I've learned that it's okay to fail, as long as you learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward.

I've learned that success is not just about the destination, it's about the journey.

And I'm excited to share more of my journey with you all. 

What's the latest failure that led you to learn something useful?

I owe everything I have today to the music industry.

It allowed me to travel the world, meet amazing people, and create a life I'm proud of.

But for every up, there is a down.

I struggled with balancing work and my personal life. I've felt the pressure to keep up with trends and to always be "on."

It wasn't until I started my own business that I realized the importance of taking a break, pursuing passions outside of work, and practicing self-care.

But building a business is no easy feat either. I've failed more times than I can count, and learned the hard way that investing in yourself is just as important as investing in your business.

And through it all, I've learned that success is not just about making money - it's about using your platform and your voice to make a positive impact in the world.

It's why I started the Heartfeldt Foundation.

So if you're struggling to find your way, just remember: everyone starts somewhere. 

Embrace your failures, celebrate your successes, and never stop learning.

Let's talk about the elephant in the room: drugs & alcohol.

Being a DJ is a dream job, but it can also be a nightmare.

The scene, the pressure, and the attention can lead to substance abuse.

I've seen it happen too often.

It's important to keep in mind that we're all human. And when you're not in your optimal shape because of touring, it can be hard to resist.

It's okay to ask for help.

And it's okay to take a break when you need it.

As someone who has struggled with this, I can tell you it's a difficult journey, but it's worth it.

Put soda water with lime in the booth instead of tequila. Heck, even fake taking a shot by using water instead of vodka. (you didn't get this from me)

Take care of yourself.

Have you ever wondered what makes a great musician?

Is it talent? Hard work? Connections?

As someone who has made it as a DJ and producer, I can tell you this:

The one thing that makes a great musician is their ability to connect with their audience.

Think about it.

When you listen to music, you're not just listening to the notes or the rhythm. You're connecting with the emotions, the story, and the message behind the music.

That's why great musicians are great storytellers.

They know how to use their music to create an emotional connection with their fans.

And the best part?

This applies to all industries, not just music.

If you want to be successful, you need to learn how to connect with your audience.

Whether you're a musician, a marketer, an entrepreneur, or anything in between, connecting with your audience is the key to success.

So, how are you connecting with your audience today?

Let's talk about the biggest misconception that people have about being a DJ.

The biggest mistake you can make as a DJ is thinking it's all about the music.

Sure, we all love the music, but to be successful, you must be a bit of a CEO too.

That means you must be a marketer, a promoter, a networker, a social media guru, and a business strategist.

Being a DJ is not just about playing music. It's about building a brand, engaging with fans, and creating experiences that will stay with people for the rest of their lives.

It's about giving everything you have to the people who come to see you and making sure that they leave with a smile on their faces and a memory that will last forever.

So, next time you see a DJ on stage, remember that they are not just playing music; they are creating an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

And there's more behind the curtain than you might expect. 

(and I am not talking about groupies, drugs and after parties)

Let's talk about making it big.

We're told we need to work hard.

But it's not just that.

It's about:

- Networking
- Being in the right place at the right time
- Taking risks
- Being passionate
- Being resilient
- Learning from failure

But we also need to talk about the hard truth.

Sometimes, it's just luck.

Sometimes, it's privilege.

Sometimes, it's having the right connections.

And that doesn't mean you're not good enough.

It doesn't mean you won't make it.

It just means that the road to success is not a straight one.

So, let's start a conversation: what's been your biggest challenge in making it big? How did you overcome it?

Passion is awesome.

But, it won't sustain you.

It's like starting a fire.

It burns hot and bright.

And then what?

You have to keep adding wood and stoking it if you want it to keep burning.

That means fueling it with knowledge, experience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Passion will only get you so far.

You need a business mind, too.

You need to be able to read a balance sheet, manage a team, negotiate a deal, and make tough decisions.

Passion is the starting point.

But, to turn your passion into a business, persistence and a growth mindset are essential.

As an entrepreneur and DJ, people often ask me how I balance work and personal life.

The truth is, there is no perfect balance. It's a constant juggling act. 

Heck, I would even say that I work all the time. 

At least, I'm thinking about work all the time. 

But since it's also my hobby, my passion, there's a personal element to it as well.

However, there are a few things that have worked for me:

1. Make time for self-care: I take time for myself daily, whether hitting the sauna, working out, or just taking a walk.

2. Efficient work: I aim to be as efficient as possible with my work to spend more time on personal activities I love. This means batching emails and meetings and using automation wherever I can.

3. Quality over quantity: I prioritize spending time with loved ones over attending every networking event or working long hours.

4. Learn to say no: sometimes, you must say no to opportunities to prioritize personal time. Every yes, is a no to something else.

The most important thing is to find what works for you and stick to it. 

Don't let anyone else's idea of "balance" influence your decisions.

It's easy to look at my career and see only the highlights.

The chart-topping tracks, the sold-out shows, the multi-million dollar businesses.

But what people don't see is the years of hard work, dedication, and resilience that went into making it all happen.

I didn't get to where I am today by chance. I got here by putting in the time and effort necessary to make my dreams a reality.

And that's why I don't believe in overnight success.

Because there's no such thing.

Success results from years of hard work, trial and error, and persistence in adversity.

It's the result of pushing yourself to be better daily, staying true to your vision, and not giving up when things get tough.

So, if you're feeling discouraged or frustrated on your own journey, know that you're not alone.

Success isn't easy, but it's worth it. Keep pushing, learning, and growing - and eventually, you'll get there.

Trust me.

As a music producer, it's essential to find your own sound that makes you unique and stands out in a crowded music landscape.

When I first started producing music, I was heavily influenced by the sounds of other artists. 

I was always searching for the next song that Hardwell would play or that could hit the Beatport charts.

However, I quickly realized that I needed to create my own unique sound to stand out and be successful.

Which I did. And the first track I made using that style got me signed by Spinnin' Records. It is the biggest dance music label in the world.

Here are some tips to help you discover your own sound:

1. Experiment with different styles and genres – Try out different sounds and styles until you find something that resonates with you and feels authentic.

2. Incorporate elements of your culture and background – It's important to embrace your cultural roots and draw inspiration from your experiences in life.

3. Don't be afraid to take risks – Sometimes, the best way to find your own sound is to take risks and try something new.

4. Collaborate with other artists – Collaborating with other artists can expose you to new sounds and ideas that can help you develop your own unique sound.

Remember, finding your own sound is a journey and requires patience, persistence, and creativity. 

But once you see it, you'll be on your way to making music that stands out and resonates with your audience.

The myth of work-life balance: debunked.

The concept of work-life balance suggests that you can achieve an equal distribution of time, energy, and attention between work and personal life.

But, let's be honest- it's impossible to maintain.

As an entrepreneur and DJ, I learned that achieving work-life balance is not about dividing your time equally between both aspects of your life.

It’s about setting boundaries and prioritizing the things that matter most at that moment. 

Sometimes, that means working late into the night, and other times it means taking the day off to travel somewhere new or spend quality time with loved ones.

Instead of striving for balance, aim for harmony by integrating and blending work and personal life. 

This can be achieved by being mindful of your choices, communicating your needs and boundaries, and staying true to your values.

Remember, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to balancing work and personal life. 

Find what works for you, and don't be afraid to make changes.

When I first started out as a DJ, all I wanted was to be successful.

I wanted to make money, travel the world, and play my music for thousands of people.

But as I've grown and evolved as an artist and entrepreneur, I've realized that success is more than money and fame.

It's about making an impact, leaving a legacy, and using your platform to create positive change in the world.

That's why I've launched the Heartfeldt Foundation, to support sustainable initiatives and create a better future for our planet.

I've also learned the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, prioritizing mental health, and taking time for self-care and personal growth.

Success is a journey, not a destination, and I'm grateful for all the lessons I've learned along the way.

I scheduled specific times for my work and blocked out time for my personal life. 

I made sure to prioritize my health and relationships. 

And most importantly, I learned to say "no" to things (and shows) that weren't aligned with my values and priorities.

It wasn't easy, but it was worth it.

The truth is, you can't be productive if you're not taking care of yourself.

So, take a step back and evaluate your own situation. Are you happy with your work-life balance?
