We often believe we’re “fixing” a child when we say:
“Stop crying.”
“Don’t talk like that.”
“Calm down right now.”
But many times, we’re actually trying to stop our own discomfort —

their frustration makes us impatient,
their tears make us feel like we failed.
So instead of supporting their emotional growth,
