I have been adopting Agile principles and Scrum methodologies in the volunteer work that we do. We followed the principles in the Agile Manifesto.

1. Individuals and Interactions over Processes and Tools.

2. Working software over comprehensive documentation.

3. Customer collaboration over contract negotiation.

4. Responding to change over following a plan.

I employed the following practices of Agile in the team.

1. Incremental delivery of our programmes like the inaugural Sout Ilaahi Muslims Arts and Film Festival in 2020.

2. Timeboxing our discussions and meetings.

3. Servant Leadership principles of asking questions to volunteers and helping them find answers on their own.

4. Conflict resolution techniques within teams and strategic thinking to deliver value faster to our stakeholders. e.g. mosques, mental health organisations, artists and businesses.

5. Conducting planning, reviews and retrospectives with the team while organising our programmes.

Volunteer Agile Coach

I volunteer in this organization and help to organize conferences and classes with local and international scholars.

I learnt that social issues and human behaviour are not straightforward and require rich experiences dealing with complex issues in order to understand them.

Through agility, we produce content by favouring 'working software over comprehensive documentation. We create working examples in our work with designers, writers, zoom team members and video editors to organise events that benefit the community.

Being a timeline manager for “The Sacred Path of Love Conference” in 2014 enabled me to strengthen my time management skills.

The volunteer manager role for “The Sacred Path of Love Conference” in 2015 and 2016 made me realise the importance of befriending people in order to truly understand their deepest motivations.

Our programs in raising awareness about social issues like depression, anxiety, abuse and mental disorders through the VoiceOut Campaign 2017 enabled me to have a deeper sense of empathy and sensitivity in dealing with human behaviour.

Organizing “The Sacred Path of Love Conference” that annually garners about 200 people each year since 2014 helped me to adapt to new challenges that arise.

Conducting Facebook & Instagram LIVE interviews with local and overseas scholars, professionals, musicians, artists, authors, physiotherapists, psychologists and community leaders exposed me to a rich database of human networks and potential.

Singapore Police Force

For my National Service as the Head Manpower, Admin and Logistics, I have been focusing on Agile principles and Scrum methodologies in the National Service work that I do. 

I specifically lead the Service & Support team and have implemented Scrum and Agile practices in our ways of working.

In a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambigious  (VUCA) world, we need agile thinking in order to solve problems we don't even know exists.

We followed the principles in the Agile Manifesto.

1. Individuals and Interactions over Processes and Tools.

2. Working software over comprehensive documentation.

3. Customer collaboration over contract negotiation.

4. Responding to change over following a plan.

I employed the following practices of Agile in the team.

1. Incremental delivery of our operations plans like the Open Mobilisation, General Elections and Closed Mobilisations.

2. Timeboxing our discussions and meetings. I employ month-long sprints, conduct sprint planning, sprint review and sprint retrospectives with the APD Service and Support team.

3. Servant Leadership principles of asking questions to officers and helping them find answers on their own.

4. Facilitating discussions with teams and enabling them to be self-managing teams with T-shaped skills.

Volunteer Agile Coach (NS)

I currently hold the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for this National Service role. My current position as Head Manpower (NS) / Head Human Resources (NS), enables me to set up cross-functional teams as a Key Appointment Holder.

I employ an agile mindset favouring individuals and interactions over processes and tools as we strategise how to make the Service & Support team into a self-organizing one. 

Our team also aspires to 'develop working software' over comprehensive documentation by creating plans and showing them to our stakeholders (Commander, Dy Commander) regularly.

I serve a 1300-men unit. I utilise project management, training and public speaking skills to strengthen the Service & Support's effectiveness. I help manage the Provost and Training units in our Division.

In this National Service Key Appointment Holder position, I help to advance the effectiveness of the unit through refining our men in discipline and conduct. We deal with investigations and inspections for our officers. Our work helps ensure that internally we are robust through the mindset and values needed for officers to do their best work.

LBKM Lembaga Biasiswa Kenangan Maulud (PMBM Scholarship Fund Board)

I gave the inaugural Keynote Speech to about 600 scholarship recipients, patrons, and Minister Chan Chun Sing, Singapore's Minister of Education during LBKM's Scholarship Ceremony.

My speech was titled, "Learn to make tea: The secret to success and global competitiveness".
