Watching this recent interview between Alex Hormozi and Tony Robbins  was a full circle moment - I felt a deep sense of empathy. 

I remember watching Alex back in 2021, just as I was starting Captains Club - I idolized him - the work ethic, the approach, the communication, the reach, etc. Even got to spend a few minutes in the gym with him back in the day 😎 I learned a ton and will forever be thankful. 

It's the first interview where Alex seems nervous. Apprehensive. The dude has "won" by many metrics - built a $100M+ empire, HUGE following and admiration of many, but hearing him speak about the "emptiness" of success and the struggle to find joy outside of 'work' was a massive reality check.

He’s sacrificed almost everything (family, community, and "unproductive" time) to become a world-class outlier and made me realize that while I still use his business frameworks, this would never be a blueprint for life. 

I remember that his "rich life" was having a maximum amount of choice. But the more I grow, the more I realize that a truly rich life isn't about the choices that stay open, it's about the ones you make.

I look at my wife, my children, my parents, my extended family, and I realize I’ve "limited" my choices through commitment to responbilities that outsize my shoulders and yet, I’ve never felt more 'free' and I wouldn't trade a single, loud, hilarious, crazy morning, or shabbat dinner for his entire portfolio.

Alex has optimized for the "scoreboard," but in doing so, he seems to have missed the messy, beautiful, and "inefficient" stages of life that actually fill your cup. It's the whole delayed vs denied paradigm.

I’m always rooting for Alex. It seems that he's on the path to realize that the greatest "ROI" is found in the people who love you for who you REALLY are, not what you’re building or what they can collect.
