Here's how I did it:

I started with this simple prompt: "Create a lo-fi wireframe of a iOS podcast app with [add your specific requirements]." I got the attached wireframe.

Through several iterations, I focused on three key improvements:

+ Content Discovery: I added a section to highlight recently updated shows. This made it easier for users to find fresh content.

+ Decision Fatigue: The lo-fi version had no visual hierarchy. All options felt equally important. I used layout and emphasis to guide attention.

+ Information Hierarchy: I introduced clearer visual cues - thumbnails, icons, and episode details. Users can now recognize content at a glance.

After refining the structure and styling, I ended up with a high-fidelity version that feels closer to a polished product. 

Looking at both versions shows this progression clearly.

Is it perfect? No — and it's not meant to replace a designer. 

But it's an effective way to clarify ideas, communicate intent to stakeholders, and jumpstart collaboration with design.

Here’s a powerful way to think through problems.

Try thinking like someone else from a different domain to get new perspectives.

Ask yourself:

"How would someone from a completely different field tackle this?"

Think about it:

↱ If you're a programmer debugging code, how might a designer approach it?
↳ Maybe by focusing less on pure logic and more on the user's journey, or visualizing the problem state in a new way.

↱ If you're a marketer planning a campaign, what would an engineer do?
↳ Perhaps focus on building a measurable system first, proactively identifying failure points, and rigorously analyzing data flows.

Why Does This Work?

Borrowing tools, mindsets, and techniques from unrelated areas forces your brain out of its usual patterns. It helps you see things with fresh eyes.

AI assistants are especially good at this cross-disciplinary thinking.

Here’s an effective prompt structure I find useful for brainstorming with AI:

"I'm currently working on [describe your specific problem or challenge].

My current approach is [explain how you're currently tackling it].

Help me think of 3-5 completely different approaches to this problem. Consider:

+ Solutions from unrelated fields
+ Approaches that challenge my core assumptions
+ Perspectives that flip or reverse my thinking
+ Unconventional methods I wouldn't normally consider

For each suggestion, briefly explain why it might work in a way I haven't considered before."

Give it a try! Experimenting with these different viewpoints can often lead to the perspective you need.

We've all seen the beautifully crafted strategy slides.

Everyone nods along in the meeting.

Then comes the messy reality of actually shipping it.

That gap between plan and execution is where things often break down.

Here are some classic ways good plans get derailed:

1. Forgetting the 'Why':
↳ Strategy starts here. If the team doesn't deeply understand the purpose behind the work and how it connects to the bigger picture, then execution suffers. Don't just communicate the 'what'; constantly reinforce the 'why'.

2. Ignoring Complexity:
↳ Enterprise isn't monolithic. Treating all feedback equally misses crucial nuances. You MUST differentiate between the needs of the economic buyer, the admin managing the system, and the daily end-user. Their priorities often conflict.

3. Sales Needs Filtering:
↳ That urgent request tied to a huge deal? Vital input, but evaluate it strategically against the broader market and scalability. Don't let one-off deals derail the roadmap reactively.

4. CS Holds the Gold:
↳ Insights from Customer Success on churn drivers, friction points, and expansion blockers are often the most valuable for retention and long-term health. Don't undervalue this feedback loop.

5: Sacrificing the Foundation:
↳ Underinvesting in platform health and tech debt is a strategic failure waiting to happen. It will cripple your velocity later. Proactively allocate resources to keep the foundation strong.

6. Over-Committing:
↳ Long-range, specific feature delivery dates in SaaS are usually fiction. Embrace themes and horizons to maintain agility and manage expectations realistically.

7 'Peanut Buttering':
↳ Spreading resources thinly across too many initiatives guarantees mediocrity. Make fewer, bolder bets and truly resource them.

8: Avoiding Tough Calls:
↳ Prioritization frameworks help, but they aren't magic. Real strategy requires judgment to make difficult trade-offs and clearly say 'no' or 'not now'.

9:'Set and Forget' Mentality:
↳ The market shifts, competitors move, you learn new things. Your strategy and roadmap aren't artifacts carved in stone. They need regular review, debate, and adaptation.

Building great strategy is hard, executing it is harder.

It requires clarity, discipline, tough choices, and continuous learning.
