Their ability to pull an Uno reverse on me 😂 . 

On several occasions, I've reached out to a health professional about being their copywriter...

And they pull an Uno reverse and ask if I need a health coach because I mentioned my health issues (I do have one).

To me, it's a sign that they care 😊.  It's also a sign that I shouldn't play Uno with them if I want to win 🤣 . 

P.S. What do you love most about the professionals in your niche?

Most results posts you see here don’t show you the whole picture.

I recently posted about how I helped my client get 5+ LinkedIn client project requests weekly (he's still getting them). 

Is that number realistic for everyone?

It can be, but it would take much more time for most people.

Here are a few background details that my first post didn’t include:

➡ My client isn’t new to the health and wellness space. He’s been in it for a while. He has a collection of testimonials and reviews. He gets plenty of referrals. 
➡ He already had around 15k followers on LinkedIn when we got started (he just needed help staying consistent on LinkedIn and attracting the right followers).
➡ He had some ranking blogs already, but he doesn’t have the time and energy to spend on writing SEO-optimized blogs to maintain his rankings and reach more of his ideal clients through Google. 

The process and timeline would look different if you were building from scratch. 

The next time you see a results post, don’t assume you’re behind or incapable. You just need to put the reps in, hire someone to help you, make sure you know who you’re serving, and get clear on your goals.

There are no shortcuts. Some people find loopholes, but they're usually not sustainable. 

P.S. I won’t B.S. you. I can help you grow your business, but your results will depend on which stage you’re in, the work you’ve done, and many other variables. No service provider can guarantee you anything.

Why do established professionals who are booked out still hire a copywriter?


It’s because copywriting doesn’t only help you get more clients. Many professionals and businesses have other goals. 

I know a copywriter who worked for Google last year. Do you think they needed a copywriter to help them get more people to use Google? Nope.

So what gives?

Copywriting can help you:

1. Keep your pipeline full (you have all the clients you need now, but that can change for many reasons).

2. Build trust with potential clients and eventually convert some of them (for when you want to pick up more work or your client load decreases). 

3. Create other streams of income and keep them running on autopilot (digital products and courses, anyone?).

4. Help you maintain your relationships with potential and current clients so you already have an interested audience if you decide to branch out into another industry or add on more products or services.

5. Meet your other business goals like booking more public speaking events, partnering with other industry professionals, or scaling back without losing a bunch of income. 

There's so much more to copywriting and marketing than just sales.

Because you’ve been putting in the work and you think it's not moving the needle...

Look a little closer.

And if this leads to the realization that you've made progress and have collected 100 "small" achievements...

Keep going and let those small achievements stack up.

You’re probably right around the corner from your success story and the accumulation of all those small wins.

But you have to keep going if you want to reach your big win.

P.P.S. My biggest win from the past week was accepting that it would take time to return to my usual routine. I fought it for a few days after vacation, feeling guilty and lazy.


One huge mistake that business owners make 👇 

Pivoting or adjusting their strategy too early.

If you start building your email list and you’re wondering why none of your leads have converted out of the 20 subs you have, it’s probably not your strategy.

It’s volume. 

If your open and click-through rates aren’t what you want them to be, it’s not time to switch your strategy yet (unless you’re at 0%, then that's a different story). 

You need enough volume for your stats to mean something. 

Focus on building your list. 

When you get people to sign up, use that feedback. Ask yourself:

❓ How did you get them to sign up? 
❓Where are they in the customer journey? 
❓At which point are subs dropping off? Is it before or after they open your emails?

There are so many ways to build and grow your list. 

So keep experimenting, but don't play hot potato with your strategy. 🥔

I was recently looking for a service provider for a health issue (I'm fine, but it's long overdue).

This search reminded me of something that I come across time and time again as a copywriter.

It's something I highly recommend to my clients. 

If you haven’t guessed, it’s having a website.

These are some common questions I had along the way that Instagram posts and Linktree links failed to answer:

➡ Do you take insurance?
➡ Do you serve clients remotely? Where?
➡ Do you have experience with clients who had similar issues?

Maybe this information was somewhere on their Instagram profile. Maybe it wasn't.

I couldn't spend forever looking for these answers and sending a bunch of emails to ask. 

So I found health providers with websites and reached out to them since my questions were mostly answered. 

If you’re a health professional, having a website is an advantage. And if you have a website, having an FAQ page is essential.

Make it easy on your leads and you'll be rewarded.

But I want to say something. 

We need to talk about menstrual health. 

We're talking about it now more than ever. We've taken a lot of steps in the right direction for women's health in general (and some in the wrong direction), but we need to keep going.

No tiptoeing. No whispering. No shying away from it.

Are service providers responsible for making sure potential clients are aware that results aren't guaranteed?

Or are prospective clients responsible for doing their research and/or asking the service provider the right questions?

I believe it's both. 

The responsibility is on us as consumers to know that results are never guaranteed. 

An example is if you work with a health coach, you have to realize you're different than everyone else. 

Your body, mind, and situation are all unique to you. 

So it's important to do your research and find the right coach for you. It's still not guaranteed because nothing is.

As a provider, you can't guarantee results for everyone. 

You can: 

🎉 Share previous and current client results 
📣 Talk about what you can do for prospective clients (based on your past results and qualifications) 
❣ Be honest and upfront about who your offer is and isn't for

It's up to both sides. 

The main point here is to be upfront and choose what's right for you. 

P.S. Tell me about a time you chose a provider because they were honest and didn't sugarcoat anything. 

How I help my client get 5+ LinkedIn client project requests weekly: 

My client wanted to receive more inquiries from qualified leads on LinkedIn and Google. 

So we came up with a marketing strategy that involved:

✅ Positioning him as THE authority in the health and wellness coaching industry for his ideal clients 
✅ Providing his leads with accurate information and resources relevant to them and their situations
✅ Making sure his ideal clients are aware that he’s the ideal choice for them

Sounds easy enough, right?

Nope. 

If it were, everyone would be doing it and marketers wouldn’t have jobs. 

We have to:

✅ Make sure the content he puts out gets in front of his ideal clients (we do this through SEO and building his LinkedIn following)
✅ Consistently give value to his ideal clients because you can’t expect them to buy if you don’t show them what you have to offer (we do this by engaging with his ideal clients on LinkedIn and getting them to sign up for his email list to continue the conversation)
✅ Be clear about what differentiates him from other coaches in the health space (in every piece of content and copy we put out)

I had never been so disappointed in myself. 

It was my junior year and I was playing in the high school league tennis finals. 

My opponent was a girl I’d beaten every time we’d played throughout the season. 

And I was losing. 

She was playing the best she’d played all season.  

But what ultimately caused my downfall was my mindset. 

This wasn’t the first time. It certainly wasn’t the last. 

While my mindset works for me now, it was always my greatest obstacle in high school and college tennis. 

Not only did it lead to me losing a lot of matches I likely would have won otherwise, but it also led to me acting like someone I didn’t recognize. 

The tantrums I threw on the tennis court still embarrass me a little when I think about them today. 

On the outside, it looked like I was a spoiled brat who felt entitled to win.

On the inside, I was insecure. I never felt like a winner, even though I had won plenty on and off the court. 

I was so hard on myself. I just wanted to win to prove something to myself and everyone watching. 

I didn’t know that what I needed to focus on was enjoying the process and accepting loss as a way to learn and improve. 

Now I know. And my life is better for it.

If you read my post last week about the time I lost an important tennis match, and my dignity (temporarily), this is a follow-up post.

The message in this one is quite different. 

I had the greatest support system anyone could have. 

My parents have always been my greatest supporters. My husband, who was my boyfriend at the time, has always been there for me and believed in me. My high school coach was awesome and always reminded me of my capabilities.

But was I thinking about any of this during my match?

Nope.

I was only thinking about how much I sucked. Or rather, how much I thought I sucked. 

Having a support system is so important. I’m beyond grateful for the amazing people in my life who cheer me on. 

But if you don’t believe in yourself, no amount of external validation or support can help you accomplish your goals. 

This applies whether it’s winning a tennis match, starting a business, or maintaining healthy habits.

Work on your self-belief if you want to get anywhere. 

P.S. Believing in myself and trusting my gut took a lot of work. It’s a never-ending process.

Welcome to part three of “How I made an ass out of myself on the tennis court and what it taught me”.

This time, I want to talk about the impact we have on others, especially when we’re so concerned with ourselves and how we look.

When I was throwing a fit and feeling like an absolute loser on the tennis court, I was thinking about myself.

Later, when I had some time to reflect, I realized that my actions had another shitty consequence. 😪 

My behavior had taken away from my opponent’s experience. I don't doubt she was happy to win, but she probably would have been happier if she hadn’t won that way. 

By that way, I mean with me physically and emotionally breaking down, acting angry one second and devastated the next. 

I’ve been on the other side of this too (tennis is an emotional sport 😅). Trust me, it’s not fun to win this way. 

So while I was busy losing it over not playing well and losing, I was taking away from her playing well and winning. 

Anyone who’s played tennis knows you shake your opponent’s hand at the net after the match. Of course, I did. 

Luckily, after some urging from my parents (I’m incredibly grateful to them for this), I also went up to her and her coaches afterward, told her good job, and shook her hand again. 

While it didn’t make up for my behavior on the court, I’m glad I did it. I felt horrible, but she didn’t deserve to feel that way. 

It’s hard to think about other people when you’re feeling sorry for yourself or hating yourself, but it’s so important. 

We all make the mistake of thinking we’re the only person on Earth at times. But as long as we learn from it, we can emerge as thoughtful, empathetic, and responsible human beings. 

P.S. Have you ever looked back and realized you unintentionally damaged another person’s experience? 

P.P.S. I love who I am now and I don't regret making mistakes like this one. It taught me a lot. 

Should you ever send sales emails to your subscribers? 

Of course. But timing is everything. 

It depends on where your subscribers are in the customer journey when they sign up for your emails. 

Have they already gone through a welcome sequence? Did you share some of your free resources with them?

Did they sign up to get a discount on your service or product?

Don't promise a free resource and try to hard sell them in the first email. 

Give them what they asked for, prove you can be trusted, and then sell to them once you've established a relationship. 

They signed up for a reason, but you have to give them reasons to stay. Eventually, you can give them reasons to buy. 

Be mindful about when to sell and when to nurture.

It'll set you apart from the pushy, salesy marketing they're used to seeing.
