•	 Execute sales, service and relationship strategies to support the Orange County Commercial Banking team’s portfolio growth and retention of business customers with annual revenues between $30 Million and $1 Billion
•	 Underwrite commercial mortgages, term loans, lines of credit and other credit products for middle-market clients
•	Analyze and evaluate the creditworthiness of companies through historical and forecast financial models to determine debt service capacity and financial condition

•	Utilized computer knowledge to move client’s data to online format.
•	Daily telephone/e-mail contact with clients to assist them in transitioning to the new software
•	Rewrote and clarified the process for training new hires
•	As a result, this led to increased customer satisfaction by providing timely assistance to clients, as well as an improved training process for new hires.

•	Started a social media management company working with organizations to improve communication through various social media applications
•	Duties include marketing, sales, program design and launch, and remote maintenance of social media programs
•	These efforts led to high customer satisfaction and increased market share for Meem Media

I used to work in software sales for Procore (a hypergrowth SaaS company) before I became a financial planner and co-founder of Coastal Capital Advisors. 

We primarily work with tech professionals, and most have some form of equity compensation. At some point, you get to a point where you no longer want to manage every part of your finances on your own.

April 3, 2020 was my last day at Procore.

4 years ago today.

Leaving was several months coming.

Chris and I first started talking about Coastal Capital Advisors at some point in the fall of 2019, and while late 2019 / early 2020 I had decided it was the right move, I wanted to work out all of Q1 and make and save as much as I could.

I remember getting the notice that we would be working from home in the middle of March, early at the start of the pandemic.

It was a bit surreal because I knew I was going to put in my two weeks soon, but no one knew.

And so I packed up my stuff and said bye to coworkers and friends while knowing this would be my last time on campus as an employee.

I thought I would have more time to say bye to people, thank others, and give lots of pets to all the dogs at the office.

When I put in my notice, I'm certain people thought I was crazy.

At least one exec told me so.

Leaving a job with a steady paycheck and healthcare with so many unknowns probably did seem a bit rash.

As I wrote 4 years ago, "this wasn't an easy decision for Carly and me to make.

I worked at Procore for 4 years, and I can't say enough about my time there.

It's where I made incredible friends, learned a ton, grew my career, and had a ton of fun along the way."

Procore was so fun.

I know the company has changed a ton since I started in 2016, but I'll never forget the kombucha walks, the joys and frustrations of cold calling and closing deals, playing FIFA, Wednesday lunch, the bluffs, and so much more.

But I'm so glad I left.

Starting Coastal Capital Advisors with Chris has been a great decision.

And it's fun that by working with a lot of current and former Procorians, I'm still plugged in.

I look forward to 4 more years, and a whole lot more after that.

Talking with Procorians, I commonly hear "I wish I had sold earlier."

Particularly when the stock was $80 or $90 or $100

If that's you, now might be time to revisit your strategy for your Procore stock.

It's up almost 20% YTD.

Yes, it could certainly go higher.

But if the bulk of your net worth is in Procore stock, now could be a good time to take some risk off the table, or use the money for other goals.

Current Procorians - you are still in a blackout period through the beginning of May.

Former Procorians - you can sell anytime.

But now is a good time to start planning:

🟢Do you want to sell? 

🟢How much? 

🟢What shares? 

🟢What will I use the money for?

🟢Will I owe taxes?

We had a new client working at Procore come on last summer and when we were originally planning for her stock options, Procore stock was trading in the mid $60s.

Today Procore's stock is at $82.17 - which means our strategy has to change too.

She has several grants that expire in the next 3-5 years, so we want to be proactive and not wait until the last minute.

She doesn't want to trigger AMT, so we will exercise and hold less ISOs this year.

We can't cashless exercise her NQSOs right now because Procore is in a blackout period, but if/when we do, we will need to be conscious that this increase in price will result in more taxable income (if we exercise the same amount).

I say this because financial planning is not static.

She still has ISOs left (we will likely exercise the rest in early 2025) and quite a few NQSOs.

While we can make assumptions, I'm pretty confident that Procore's stock price will not be $82.17 exactly.

It could be higher, it could be lower.

But regardless, we will need to rerun the numbers and adapt.

I write for four reasons

1) I legitimately like it.

Maybe I'm weird, but it's fun for me. 

And oddly therapeutic, because it helps me make sense of a lot of the noise and thoughts that go on in my brain

2) I enjoy helping others, clients or not.

If I can help someone save a little more, avoid a big mistake, or not overpay on taxes, that's tremendously rewarding.

3) Related to number two, there's so much misinformation out there.

I'm not going to compete with the grifters on Tik Tok and Twitter (or X, whatever) selling magical beans or the next surefire investment.

But I can have an impact on my small corner of the world

4) It's our number one generator of new business

Last year writing on LinkedIn led to 70% of the new clients who joined.

This week alone I've heard from 3 people interested in potentially working with us.

I really don't want to read anyone's AI generated blog - I care what you think and create

I don't want to see a bunch of AI art - I want to see what you can draw.

Chat GPT can actually be a decent editor, but it shouldn't be the whole thing.

Sure, it might be more efficient. 

But I don't want to read what you can get a computer to write. 

That defeats the whole purpose!

Ever played a high-stakes game of Monopoly only to realize the money you've made isn't just pretend anymore?

And it seemed like it was all pretend money.

Except it's not.

It's become a significant piece of their finances, or in some cases, basically the whole financial plan.

If you:

🟢continue to accumulate shares via RSUs or ESPP

🟢are sitting on a big chunk of stock

🟢or a combination of all 3

There's a cost to waiting.

Waiting might mean:

🔴paying more in taxes than you needed to

🔴selling at the wrong time

🔴anxiety and stress watching wild swings
