I’m James Eagle, a data visualisation specialist, keynote speaker, and seasoned investment writer with two decades of experience in asset management and banking industries. I’ve developed unique techniques that transforming complex topics into clear, compelling stories.

Why It Matters: Because data, when brought to life, has the power to shift perspectives, shape strategies, and ignite new ideas.

We are entering a 50:50 world. Half of all web content is written by humans, and the other half by AI. This shows that while machines can now produce words faster and cheaper than ever, human writing still holds its ground.

I rebuilt this dataset from Graphite because it was five months old. The story hasn't changed, but that's a long time in the world of AI.

What happens next is hard to predict. The marginal cost of producing content has collapsed. An article that once took a day to write can now be generated in 30 minutes. 

What was really interesting was when I ran my AI detector python code. From the 24,000+ article I looked at overall, I saw that main stream media outlets are generating a lot of articles with AI.

There will be more writing than ever before, but not necessarily better writing. Some argue this will raise the bar for humans, pushing writers to focus on insight, storytelling and style. It could also push readers to alternative sources for human authentic writing like what you can find on Substack.

The opposite could also happen. Quality might erode as AI slop floods the market and genuine voices get lost in the noise. I'm already feeling this myself.

As for human writers, the profession may shift from production to curation, from typing words to shaping meaning. Writing could become more of an art form, and less of a job. Yet for businesses, the opposite is true. With AI, there is no longer any excuse not to publish thoughtful content. The real differentiator will be originality and trust. 

The deeper question is what this means for communication itself. When email arrived, we did not become better communicators. We just sent more messages. 

Will AI writing tools make us more articulate, or just more prolific and noisy?

On Friday 10 October the market took a punch. Trump vowed 100% tariffs on Chinese imports and floated new export controls. The S&P 500 fell 2.7%. The Nasdaq dropped 3.6%. The Dow lost nearly 900 points.

Now look at the swarm plot by Jan Varsava from Chartfleau. Here, every S&P 500 stock is a bubble, clustered by sector, where it's size is determined by market cap. It's being pushed around by a D3 force simulation as the trading day progresses. Firstly, there was nowhere to hide that day. Secondly, look at the dispersion in stocks and look what happened to the mega techs.
