What's something you really love?

For me, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is something I really love. As a kid I saw the original one, when the second one came out I saw it multiple times in the cinema, I saw the theatre show in London, I read the books many times, and when Wonka came out my son and I went to the movies more than once.

My son also loves Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, can sing all the songs and likes to put on a show.

Why I am telling this? And what does it have to do with observability?

For a movie theatre these movies are crucial. Wonka did reasonably well at box office and overperformed.

For chain like Village Roadshow these box office hits are crucial. But even more crucial is being prepared and able to deal with the traffic spikes. That's why they invested in observability and are working with Dynatrace to ensure uninterrupted service during peaks.

People who ever went to Legoland know they sell cups that you can refill for the whole day without having to pay extra.

There are many stations at the park, many options and it's quite good value when you are with your family.

So as it was our Wellness Day at Dynatrace we went to Legoland Windsor on Friday. Last time I already bought a cup so this time I only had to pay for the refill.

Unfortunately when a refill station isn't working, drinks are not available and it's busy, it affects the experience. 

Luckily these kind of issues are easily solved with the right tools that can help companies prevent this from happening.

Dynatrace helps companies with predicitive monitoring and quickly identify and prioritize problems so issue like these can be prevented.

Sometimes throwing rocks at a problem helps.

As you know I used rocks to stop our fence from breaking. It helped, but long term we would have to replace the fence.

Yesterday however it was quite windy and funnily enough one of other the panels broke only a few hours after we had someone over.

We already decided that we would get it replaced, but now this is even more urgent and to stop it from falling I had to be creative with rocks.

When an application breaks, IT teams might also have to be creative, relying on DIY and temporary solutions. But long term the problem will only get bigger until there is no way back.

That's why Dynatrace helps companies understand the root cause and business impact of issues so these can be fixed immediately and teams don't need to look at different tools for a fix.

Relationships aren't that much different than observability in my opinion.

A relationship starts off of great and exciting, but sooner or later things start to break, you struggle to understand your partner and don't always find the root cause of an issue.

Married at First Sight Australia is an excellent example of this. As these people are in an experiment where they are together almost 24x7 small things start to become big.

Take Andrea and Richard for example, they started off great, but some comments made by Richard put off Andrea with Richard questioning why things changed, them starting to point fingers and struggling to understand the root cause.

These things are not that different within IT teams. People work together to maintain their applications and infrastructure but sooner or later things go wrong and start to break.

Dynatrace won't be able to fix a love relationship - well, maybe it can fix the relationship between teams by helping them collaborate better - but it does help to understand what is going on, giving the root cause and how to fix things.

Many hearts broke yesterday 💔

At least if you are a cycling fan or had Wout Van Aert or Jasper Stuyven in your Sporza Wielermanager team.

Van Aert and Stuyven both fell (together with Mads Pedersen and Biniam Girmay) during Dwars door Vlaanderen. 

The worst thing is that they crashed on a descent of which almost every rider said it was a dangerous descent. That's why they already decided to scrap it from the Ronde van Vlaanderen.

They know it was dangerous but didn't take any action. This is similar to IT teams who are warned there is an issue, but who don't do anything. It could be because they are overwhelmed by alerts and don't think it's an issue. Or that they don't understand the context and the risk.

Dynatrace helps teams avoid that their apps crash because of an issue by warning them of anything odd happening and prevent that your most critical applications are ruining your whole 'spring season'.

A few months ago we went on a dolphin spotting tour. If you ever done this you know it can be hard and there is no guarantee that you actually see dolphins.

These tours can be very boring, make you sea sick and unwell and it can take a long time before you actually find them.

It's a bit like finding the root cause of a performance issue. Sometimes you are lucky and immediately find the root cause of the issues, other times you have to keep looking and the process might make you sick.

But you can also rely on Dynatrace to help you find the root cause of an issue immediately and drastically reduce the time it takes for you to resolve, making you less sick and more happy.

Did all banks apps at the same time go down?

Probably not.

But yesterday around the same time mobile apps of two of my banks didn't work.

Poor mobile experiences might people to decide to change banks. The less time it takes to fix the issue, the less likely this will happen.

For me, that was the case and the issue was resolved fast. But sometimes it can take a while before problem and root cause has been identified.

Several banks work with Dynatrace to avoid this from happening. They leverage AI to quickly understand what is going on, what the root cause is, how to fix it and what the impact is.
