Owner of all pipeline strategies for the marketing team, the Revenue Marketing Manager partners closely with sales to drive customer-centric playbooks that are relevant, personalized, and segmented. 

Successful Accomplishments: 
- Joined at the end of Q2, by Q3 I drove 20% of marketing-sourced ARR, by Q4 & Q1, 48%, and by Q2 67% ARR (sales cycle 3-6 months) – responsible for 30%. 

- Refined webinar follow-up process that resulted in >14 meetings in 7 business days.

- Revamped newsletters that drove 3x the engagement.

- Improved Google Ads conversions 2,054% YoY; reduced CPA 87% YoY (with PPC vendor help).

- Sourced two of the largest 6-figure enterprise deals in Betterworks history (close-won). 

- Designed email marketing campaign to capture journey, intent, and conversions. 

- Advocated and implemented Drift to provide a white-glove service for users on the site in addition to reducing friction to getting SDRs/AEs meetings.

What are you doing at 2’clock on a Thursday? 

I’m chilling at a coffee shop with my toddler playing dominoes. 

Yesterday I worked 4 hours, today I worked 2 and tomorrow I’ll work none. 

Definitely not a normal week but being a business owner, I can flex my hours however I want and no one is checking if my little green availability light is on. 

I still get work done. I still meet deadlines. I’m still a present parent. 

This is the life.

Here’s how I make sure high-intent leads get followed up in within 24-hours👇🏼 (this is a must). 

Follow-up on inbound leads MUST happen in 24-hours or less. 

If hand-raising leads are waiting more than 24-hours to hear from you after inquiring, that’s a surefire way to kill momentum. 

I’ve seen this play out time after time and truthfully I’m sick of seeing it. I know why it’s happening, too. There are two reasons: 

1) Sales has been conditioned that leads from marketing are crap so they deprioritize them. 

2) The configuration of systems is broken and routing and notifications are failing resulting in chaos. 

I’ve helped solve this by creating a notification out of the CRM to trigger to as many people as needed saying it’s been more than 24-hours and a follow-up ASAP is required. This works well with the sales / marketing leaders who are changing the mentality that marketing leads are NOT crap (and backing it up) and using this as reinforcement to condition the process – or to identify where the leaks in the systems are to fix them. 

Everytime I say this, I always get pushback: “what about the weekend? You can’t expect people to work on weekends. Requiring people to respond in 24-hours on the weekend is just cruel.” 

Did I say the first touch HAD to be from a person? 

We’re in the world of AI and automation. Use it. Or, create a thank you email saying “oopsies you caught us on the weekend we’ll be in touch first thing monday AM.” It’s about setting expectations on what’s next within the first 24 hours.

What did your very first job teach you that you remember to this day? 

My very first job was… can you guess? 

Now, don’t laugh. 

It was McDonalds. 

I was a cashier and drive-thru attendant. 

I remember coming home at the end of the day smelling like grease and fries. 

Something my dad always taught me was to care. Care about others. Care about your work ethic. Care about your reputation. And live up to what you promise. 

To this day, I remember having the McDonalds manager tell me I was the best employee. I was the best drive thru multi-tasker there ever was – ok probably not really, but definitely a strong contender 😂. But the point being, I was 16 at the time working my butt off because I had a vision of what was next. 

My next set of jobs were in retail. And let me tell you. If you’ve never worked retail during the holidays, count your blessings. The jolliest time of the year ain’t so jolly for retail workers. It’s a nightmare. 

But the same thing happened at my retail jobs. They wanted to make me manager of the store. What an honor, right? But that wasn’t what I wanted. I had a vision of what was next. 

The next job, I was a teller for personal installment loans. Same thing happened here. They wanted to give me my own location and be the manager. But I had a vision of what was next. Fortunately, they liked me so much to let me come back during the summers when I was out of college, knowing it was only temp. 

The next jobs were at my university. I had 4 jobs at once, at one point. 1) Front desk worker at the dorm, 2) Admin assistant to the assistant dean, 3) Admin worker for the admin building, 4) Marketing intern at the YMCA. I was an RA (resident advisor) at one point, too. Rent at the time was $600 / mo. Not including gas, going out with friends, food, etc., 

You know what that taught me? How to budget, and how to prioritize needs. And to focus on what was next ➡️graduation. 

Fortunately, from there, I did graduate and I went off into the corporate world. Started from the bottom as a marketing assistant, coordinator, specialist, manager, director, and now, founder and CXO. 

Because if there’s one thing McDonalds taught me that I haven’t forgotten to this day.. it’s to focus on what’s next.

It takes product. 

It takes ops. 

It takes customer success. 

… the list goes on. 

So it’s not that YOU as a marketer or marketing leader don’t know what you’re doing…

It’s that orchestrating an effective demand gen engine is HARD AF. 

Demand orchestration requires strategy, technology, people, and processes. 

When those components work in harmony, that’s what drives qualified pipeline growth and revenue. 

This is no longer just in marketing’s court. 

It's a full funnel effort.

Yet somehow marketing is the one taking the hit.

Cool, but how do you solve this? 

Glad you asked…  

Get all the right departments collectively working together, then you’ll unstick your demand gen engine. 

Easy to say, harder to do. 

But, if you master that — you’ll be unstoppable. 

Or, you could continue lingering in murky waters like you are today…

Low hanging fruit I see companies overlooking right now 👇🏼

Remarketing 😳

It's such a low-hanging fruit tactic that often gets slashed because budgets get slashed or because people are like, “we're only focused on net new.”

Well, if you're retargeting an audience that hasn't yet converted to the action that we want them to convert to, and if they do convert, they're considered net new business, then I would consider retargeting as a net new initiative. 🤓

It’s so important to use retargeting to support the different levels of the journey. Such a low hanging fruit tactic.

Which marketers are actually worth their $hit?

Here's one that absolutely is. 

Janelle Amos. 

I've been following Janelle Amos for a minute now, and finally reached out to learn about her offerings and skillsets.

I wanted see if she is actually worth it because I’ve come across marketers and salespeople that aren’t worth their weight in hay.

Let me tell you, Janelle is definitely one of those marketers that know her $hit. 

How do I know this? 

Because I just got off the phone with her and her knowledge certainly helps address the lack of expertise that is all too frequent with DG marketers.

The best part is that she recently came out with a new offering to upskill demand gen marketers.

She calls herself the "sidekick" because she doesn't want to position herself as the hero, she’d rather allow the marketers she works with to get that praise.

I love this idea because of all the consultants and resources available online, no one is directly, strategically focused on helping the marketer. 

So if you want to follow a marketer that has actually game in today's digital noise, I highly recommend you give her a follow.

The 6 steps I take to tell if “hot takes” pass the bulls*** meter: 

Picture this. 

You go to the doctor because you think you have depression. 

How would you feel if the doctor didn’t do an evaluation and proceeded to prescribe you the same medication they prescribed everyone else that same week? 

Do you think the same medication and dosage would work for everyone given the differences in brain chemistry, genetic makeup, and individual responses to medication? 

Yikes, right?

Would you believe me if I told you this is the same thing I’m seeing in the market today? 

People are putting out content around the “only way to” or “x channel is dead” to make a bold statement, catch attention, and seem like a thought leader. 

Let’s settle something once and for all. 

MARKETING IS NOT A ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL. 

Just like the doctor shouldn’t prescribe you the exact same medication and dosage as everyone else, you should also not simply freely follow the advice – no matter how credible they are – unless they take the time to look at YOUR specific situation. 

You gotta decipher all the advice you see/read/hear before you make the mistake of chasing shiny object syndrome and jeopardizing your credibility to executives. 

What happens if you don’t?

You’ll likely end up in the hot seat at work. 

I’ve seen it happen. 

Marketers try something new, fail, and are immediately asked to justify their actions. Especially if the failed strategy results in wasted time, resources, or opportunity costs for the company… All of the sudden your credibility goes out the window. 

And once that happens, it’s VERY hard to earn it back. 

Point blank - You gotta know what you’re doing and why. And if you don’t, that’s okay, just ask. 

However, do not, under any circumstances, implement one of those “hot takes” just because someone told you to, without clear understanding and vision. 

Here are the 6 steps I take to tell if the content passes the test: 

1. Your KPIs – what were you REALLY hired to do? Does this hot take align with that? 

2. Do you currently have any missed opportunities? If yes, you should probably start here before chasing the next shiny object. 

3. Do you have a clear GTM marketing plan? – with audience research, content pillars, etc., If not… the hot take is probably not a good fit here either. 

4. Your channel strategy – are you on the RIGHT channels for your audience? If not, then you should probably start here first. If yes, then does this hot take align with your audience? 

5. Your resources – Do you even have resources (whether headcount, tech, or dollars) to support this hot take? 

6. Your tech stack – is your tech stack set up to track this new shiny object or would it require a whole attribution rehaul?

Is marketing harder today than it was 10 years ago? 


I recently guested on a podcast and was asked “do you think marketing is harder today than it was 10 years ago?” 
 
I took about 0.05 seconds to think and immediately responded with “no” 
 
The host looked at me with big, widened eyes and said “really!?” 
 
… Now, there’s no denying that the market has been a little funky lately. 
 
And to further fuel the noise, I’ve been seeing a lot of articles online about whether marketing is harder today than it was ever before. 

They’re usually partnered with B.S. advice like: remain adaptable, stay agile, diversify your offerings… blah blah blah. 
 
Look, the reason I was so quick to answer “no” was because: 
 
💥Marketing is, has always been, and always will be, about the fundamentals. 💥
 
👉 Knowing what you do. 
👉 Who you do it for. 
👉 And why you win. 
 
A lot of marketing teams forget that because they’re too focused putting out daily fires. 
 
The next thing you know, months or quarters go by and the needle hasn’t moved much on the marketing side of things. 
 
Stop chasing shiny objects and putting out fires and start buckling down on focusing on what you do and who you do it for. 

So, IMO… is marketing is harder today than it was 10 years ago? 

Marketing today isn't harder—it's just a different ball game. 

Go back to basics and master the fundamentals.

My contacts didn’t want to go in this morning. They burned and watered up so bad. Literally the worst feeling. So I’m forced to wear glasses today. 

Idk if y’all know this about me, but my eyesight, without prescription, is really bad. People always make fun of me when I squint (with or without contacts. 🤪) 

That got me thinking — just like I need help gaining clarity in my vision, marketers also need clarity in their vision too. 
 
With all the resources available between LinkedIn posts, slack threads, masterclasses, etc. how can you determine the best application for your specific scenario? 

Or in other words, how do you know which is the RIGHT prescription you need? 

You need to go get your eyes checked and get a custom prescription based on your needs. 

Same goes for marketing and marketing advice. Marketers are so quick to put on someone else’s lens and wonder why their vision is blurry. 

What you need is someone to help you get a prescription for YOUR needs. Not to borrow someone else’s vision.

Strapped on cash and feel like you can’t get anything done? Here’s what NOT to do. 

This is the talk of the town right now (second to AI)... 

“How am I going to hit these revenue numbers with no budget or resources?” 

The most common go-to answer is: 

To hire an external demand gen consultant/agency to outsource the efforts. 

Here’s why I think you should consider a different approach: 

At the end of the day, you still have your DG team. Albeit, perhaps they’re more junior than strategic, but that doesn’t mean they should get booted to a “do-er” role. 

There’s so much untapped potential there. 

When you outsource the efforts to the consultant/agency, you aren’t leveraging the resource you’re already paying for. 

This results in: 
🛑 Stop gaps in your marketing strategy 
🛑 Employees leaving, feeling undervalued 
🛑 Random acts of marketing from so much change 

What if you buckled down on your existing team’s capability and helped them rise to the challenge? 

At the end of the day, the biggest brand champions are your internal people (and your customers, but I digress).
 
Now, don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of reasons to hire consultants/agencies (I am one, remember) but if you have a demand gen team that needs a bit more hands-on support, the opportunity cost here is a lot more positive than the costs you’ll incur with the turnover and the stop gaps in your marketing plan.

When I'm asked to execute an ASAP question, here's the one question I ask:

👉 What is the overarching purpose of this campaign? 👈 

Here's why... 

If you don’t know why you’re doing something… then why are you doing it? 

Because someone said so? 

Is that really the best strategy for growth? Is it sustainable? Scalable? 

What purpose does it serve other than checking the box from your queue of requests from the CEO/CMO? 

ASAP campaigns usually lead to one and done efforts that burn out the team and hardly move the needle from a business standpoint. 

Or in other words, you’re executing disconnected marketing campaigns for almost no reason at all other than “my CEO/CMO told me to”. 

That’s not good enough if you want to make a meaningful impact and be seen as a credible marketing leader. 

I find most campaigns are disconnected in one or both ways:

1) They’re not integrated with each other = random acts of marketing 

2) They’re disconnected from the larger GTM strategy = high turnover, which equals to stop gaps in performance. 

I see teams executing a variety of one-off tactics and chasing shiny objects. 

All keep them busy, none bring compound growth.

This habit ultimately makes marketing to be seen as a liability because there’s no correlation to revenue. Lots of hard work with low impact.

💡 Start asking ‘why’ and start producing quality campaigns that are intentional and meaningful instead of checking a box and settling for “good enough”.

Are you contributing to digital noise or building a brand? Here’s a real world example to tell the difference. 

Picture this:

You’re going to the mall to go buy one specific item. Let’s say, a pair of shoes. 

You’re not sure the exact store you’re going to get the shoes from, but you have an idea of which stores you want to check out. 

We’ll call them store A & store B for the purpose of this example. 

The stores are on opposite sides of the mall.

So you start at store A. You walk around, explore, try things on. 

You get a better sense of the type of shoes you want, but you’d still like to evaluate store B… in case they have new inventory or a deal going on. 

So you leave store A and begin your journey to store B.

On the way to store B, you get hounded by about 8 different persistent kiosk people trying to ask you if you want your hair straightened, or to try their special hand lotion, or to get your shoes shined… you name it.

All you want to do is just get to store B. So you kindly say no thank you and continue on.

Finally, you get to store B, find the pair of shoes you need and make the purchase. Mission accomplished. 

Building a brand = having brand recognition like store A and B to already be thought of ahead of time for the item you’re looking for (or in other words… hint, your SaaS product)

Digital noise = persistent kiosk people trying to sell you something just to sell you something. 

They have no idea if you have money for it, have a need for it, care about it… nothing. They just need to make the sale. 

So they do everything in their power to “cold outreach” and HOPE that someone stops.

Anyone.

And even if one person does stop…. They’re likely doing it for the free hair straighten, free shoe shine, free hand lotion sample, etc.

It’s VERY hard to convert someone so cold into wanting even one of your products, much less multiple (I.e. - full service SaaS packages).

Especially when the person is in the market for something entirely different.

One more question — How many times have you gone to the mall and actually bought something from one of the kiosks? 

Or if you have, do you remember what the brand name was? 

Would you buy it again?

The takeaway = strive to become a store A & B. 

Be known for something.

And be ready to help the people coming INTO the store looking for the thing you sell. 

Don’t be a kiosk that pops up in the middle of a crowded space and HOPES someone who knows nothing about you, buys your entire product offerings.
