I initially joined Vergo in April 2009 as the Assistant Financial Controller.  During the interview process the existing Financial Controller indicated he planned to retire during 2010.  Following his retirement I was promoted the position of Financial Controller in March 2010.

Vergo expanded rapidly in 2009 with the acquisition of 5 stores in March and then a further 12 stores in July which took the number of department and homestores it operated to 20 with a turnover of £50m.

On 7th May 2010 Vergo entered Administration and consequently it is with regret that I am seeking new employment.  My principal role includes:

Production of daily and forward looking cashflow forecasts
Negotiating with suppliers regarding payment plans
Production and review of Management Accounts
Productions of annual budgets and cashflow
Cost reductions and restructuring project
Management and recruitment of a team of 10
Implementation of store reports across newly acquired stores
National Statistic returns
Member of the senior management team, reporting directly to the Managing Director
Company Secretary
Liaising with auditors regarding year end audit and going concern review
Working with administrators to provide key information regarding the financials of the company and its operations.

Despite entering Administration my brief employment at Vergo has provided me with broad experience, both positive and negative, in acquisition, system integration following acquisition and people management during a period of recession and limited working capital.

Visa and MasterCard pause crypto plans - Moni Talks

Former National Basketball Association (NBA) Boston Celtics player Paul Pierce has agreed a $1.1 million settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The SEC had accused Pierce of promoting cryptocurrency EthereumMax without telling followers it was a pad promotion. 

In the settlement, Pierce admits no wrongdoing, but agrees to pay the fine and disgorge a further $240,000.

Customers impacted by the bankruptcy of crypto lender Voyager could get back up to 73% of what they are owed now a court has approved an asset sale to Binance.US.

The deal could see assets worth $1 billion sold, a move supported by 97% of Voyager account holders.

An ongoing row with Alameda Research, sister company of collapsed exchange FTX, is a potential fly in the ointment though.

The application by Custodia Bank for inclusion in the Reserve System has been denied again.

The US Federal Reserve Board had been asked to review it's earlier refusal, but again said no.

It pointed to the application being 'inconsistent' with necessary legal requirements.

Custodia Bank denied by the Fed again - Moni Talks

Deposits and withdrawals in British sterling have been suspended for new users by Binance.

The exchange has blamed the loss of fiat provider Paysafe in the UK and said GBP deposits and withdrawals for ALL USERS will be suspended on 22 May unless a solution is found.

Paysafe told Proactive that the UK crypto regulation environment is 'too challenging'.

Is Silvergate Bank about to fall victim to the #ftx contagion?

It's reported that the US bank, popular for #crypto transactions, has told the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it will miss its annual return deadline and is looking at options to survive the current crisis.

That, on top of $1 billion loses in three months, led to a 55% drop in share value and fears for the bank's future.

Silvergate was left exposed when FTX went bust in November, and it could become one of the first 'traditional' finance houses to fall victim t the contagion.

The billionaire, also know as Miles Guo and Ho Wan Kwok, was detained in New York. The U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission have accused Guo of 12 counts of fraud and money laundering.

SEC Chair Gary Gensler view criticised - Moni Talks

A consequence of the Silicon Valley Bank storm was #usdc losing its dollar peg.

Circle held the cash reserve that backed USDC at #svb (some $3.3b). Circle has admitted it is unlikely to get 100% of the deposit back and has no idea when any payments may be made.

In the meantime, Circle has vowed to use corporate resources and external investment to prop up USDC as required.

The stablecoin fell to a low of $0.88 following the SVB collapse.
