I founded Founder and Lightning in 2016 after digitising my family’s business and spotting a gap in the Venture Builder space. For the past nine years, we have helped build 40+ portfolio companies learning the ins and outs of building a tech business. Our investment thesis fills some very important gaps in the UK economy: + We're capitalising on the huge opportunity that comes with digitising revenue-generating offline businesses, what we call ‘proper analog businesses’. + We're looking for horses, not unicorns (steady businesses, not growth at all costs, but have the potential to be champions). + We're championing non-tech founders using their strong commercial acumen to help them become successful tech startup founders. + We're investing in female founders– 50% of our 2023 investments had at least 1 female founder. + We believe that a secret to unlocking value in the UK economy is to build tech companies that are sustainable. Ultimately, too many tech companies in the UK fail so we’re using our knowledge to help founders avoid the common missteps– this gets us out of bed in the morning !
