I didn’t even open this one and moved it straight to spam.

It reminds me of the hundreds of spammy guest post emails I receive daily.

👉 Skip “hope you are doing well” and “introductions”.

For introductions, add all relevant information in your signature.

👉 Get straight to the point.

Let them know from the first line what your cold email is about.

You won’t only save your recipients' time but will differentiate yourself.

If your goal is to pitch a guest post, here is what I’d do:

→ Familiarize yourself with the topics they cover.
→ Let them know from the beginning that you are an authority on these topics + share examples.

Here is how you can do it:

"Hi [name],

My case study on [recipient's topic] got featured on [authority website in recipient's niche]. I have three relevant case study ideas that would resonate with your audience and be a great addition to your [article that they can interlink] guide/case study.

Mind if I share them?"

DR is essentially a vanity metric that alone doesn’t reveal much.

Last week, I had a call with the founder of a successful link-building agency.

They struggled to generate a response rate above 1% from their cold outreach.

After analyzing their campaign performance, one thing was obvious:

Their bounce rates were above 10%!

What happened?

They skipped the email verification process.

Email verification is a crucial part of the success of your cold outreach campaigns.

And the great thing?

You can automate it using Hunter.

Once you add your recipients to your cold email campaign, you can verify all the email addresses with a single click.

4 years ago, I struggled to find a single client. 

Here is what I would do to be fully booked within 3 months: 

1️⃣ Ideal Customer Profile (ICP):

The more specific you are, the better.

It’s not enough to say: ‘SaaS companies in the US’

Be laser focused and say: ‘SaaS companies under 50 employees, located on the US East Coast with an active blog’

2️⃣ Offer:

Identify the main challenges your ideal customer faces that relate to your services, and tailor your offer as the solution.

In this case:

Content creation & link building are time consuming and expensive to do it right. Creating content that manually attracts backlinks is another level of commitment. 

You can frame your offer like: 

“I help small SaaS companies (up to 50 employees) located in EU with content that naturally attract relevant, authoritative backlinks”

3️⃣ Outreach:

With a clear understanding of your ideal customer and a compelling offer that addresses their challenges, it’s time to contact their decision-makers.

Cold emailing is my preferred method. It’s cost-effective and scalable.

Keep your emails short and personalized. Don’t forget to follow-up. 

I use this formula:

Problem + Solution + Call to Action (CTA)

Here is the example: 

[first name], creating content that not only helps your audience solve their problems, but attracts links is challenging. I asked 57 companies and the results are: it takes 21 hours to create a content asset that attracts more than 20 high quality links.   [problem]

Here is how I helped [X] with [content 1] and [content 2] that naturally acquired [Y] backlinks and rank #1 for [keyword] that brings them extra $[revenue]/month. [solution]

That’s it.

Be consistent and continually add new contacts to your outreach system daily.

If you integrate 10 new recipients into your sequence each working day, you will have approximately 200 contacts per month. Assuming you maintain this routine for three months and achieve a conservative conversion rate of 2%, you could potentially gain 12 new clients.

Maintain this momentum, and the results will follow.

We sent over 500 emails last year with the goal to reclaim unlinked mentions.

Our average open rate: 64.8%
Our average reply rate: 17.5%

Here is what you need to make it successful:

0/ Established brand

As I mentioned, if no one knows about your brand, no one will mention you.

1/ Track web mentions

I use Mention for tracking web mentions.

It is very accurate and helps you apply some filters to reduce the number of irrelevant results.

2/ Automate cold email sequences

Hunter.io is all you need. Simply create an outreach template (with 2 - 3 automated follow-ups) and acquire links.

3/ Good offer

Sometimes, people will be happy to give you a link for nothing in exchange.

But, in most cases, you’ll need to reciprocate.

Here are some practical ways:
→ free credits for your product
→ a backlink (from a guest post or partner’s website)
→ mention on your social media profile

Is reclaiming unlinked mentions a part of your link building strategy?

Your email just bounced back?

Here are 3 email bounce rules I follow to safeguard my sender's reputation:

→ Under 2% – This is the sweet spot you want to be in. 

→ 5% – This requires further investigation of each bounce.

Pause campaigns, get a list of all bounced emails, and manually check the bounce message and validity of each email address.

In case the email addresses are invalid, make sure to delete them from any upcoming campaigns, but in other cases, there might be a problem with the recipient’s inbox or DMARC policy. 

This is why it’s essential to first setup DMARC and ensure your emails are sent securely and are properly authenticated.

→ Over 10% – Pause the email campaign immediately and do a closer inspection.

Make sure to configure DKIM, SPF, and DMARC, as well as warm-up email addresses before sending cold emails.
