That's quite often the auto-reply we face in cold email. "Wrong person."

I know a lot of people skip this, and I did too - it’s a pain to handle manually.

Then I decided to set up a small semi-automated workflow in Clay and Instantly.ai as an MVP. I thought - okay, this new contact is valid, and I already have a reference.

Basically, that's golden advice Pawel Nical gave me about Clay workflows: "Build an MVP, test it, then enhance."

So, I tested it, and we received a 6.7% reply rate and a 33% positive reply rate.

Then I made it completely automated and added it to every customer I have.

1) I set up a webhook - when a lead is marked as "Wrong person," it goes to a Clay table. The rest is sent there, too.

2) This webhook, unfortunately, does not send the email text, so I pull that with the Instantly API.

3) I send the email text to GPT, asking it to check and extract the new contact’s data: First name, Last name, Company name. If there’s no email in the text, or if the email is generic like "support," "info," or "hello," I ask GPT to return blank text.

4) Then, if we have a new contact, I send it to the Instantly campaign, already prepared and turned on.

That's it. So, when we get a "wrong person" reply, it automatically reaches out to the right person. :)

Spintax is cool, but I think it's just not enough to change one word in a sentence.
Emails you send are different in terms of text, but they are pretty similar in terms of size and content. So I'm not really sure that there is a huge difference.

But here's the process I'm using now to create the diversity at scale, but to keep copy human, not robotic:
- Create the email copy
- Personalize the opener in Clay for each contact (rather to show the relevance)
- The rest of the email I add to my custom GPT, it returns the options using simple language so i could just copy and paste it to Instantly.ai.
- I add 5-6 different subject lines for the first email

Can't wait to use Twain + Clay for some campaigns.
