A university cutting 30% of its faculty is a gut punch. Clark University is making this drastic move because student enrollment is dropping. Lower enrollment means less tuition coming in. Less money to pay staff. So, jobs are lost. Whole careers are disrupted. But let’s zoom out. Clark might be the start. Other schools are staring at the exact numbers. Enrollment is dropping across the country. Students are questioning the value of a degree. Families worry about costs. Some schools will adapt, most aren't ready. I've seen this coming; higher ed is slow to change. But a summer of layoffs could shake the whole system. It’s not just about jobs, it’s about the future of learning. Will more universities follow Clark’s path this year? Or is someone ready to change the playbook? What’s your take?

Every team needs a glue guy. That’s why “The Hard Hat” by Jon Gordon is a book I keep coming back to. It’s not just a holiday or summer read for me; it’s the blueprint for building real teams. I had to dive back in after watching Cornell take home the NCAA lacrosse championship this week. Congrats to the Big Red. What makes this book special? It breaks down what it means to be a great teammate: 21 simple, real ways, all rooted in a true story. You don’t need to be an athlete to get it. It’s about showing up, doing the little things, and putting the team before yourself. One line sticks with me: “Great teammates don’t just impact you today; they impact you for the rest of your life.” That’s everything. The best teams on the field, in business, and at home are built on small, steady acts—not big speeches, not heroics. This book changed how I think about working with others. If you care about your team, pick it up. What’s a book that’s shifted your view on teamwork?

Significant changes are coming for college sports, but not everyone is cheering. The NCAA settlement is making headlines, but what does it mean for non-revenue sports? Most attention is focused on football and basketball. But the future is a big question for sports like lacrosse or swimming. Athletes in these programs are worried. Will there be less funding? Fewer scholarships? Could some teams even disappear? I’ve seen firsthand how important these sports are for college athletes. They build community, teach time management, and give students a real purpose. Cutbacks would mean lost opportunities for so many. This is about more than money. It’s about access and experience for all, not just the sports that make headlines. What’s your take?

I recently re-read The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon, one of my favorite Gordon books. Here’s one section that spoke to me, and I wanted to share it with you all. Be the positive energy, and you will create positive results. “Positive energy and positive people create positive results. There is much negativity in the world, and choosing positive energy helps us deal with the negative people and situations that can knock us off course.” What's your favorite Jon Gordon book? #jongordon #positiveenergy #reading

What’s next for college sports when the money gets tight? College athletic departments are staring down some difficult revenue calls. Budgets will look very different with new rules around player compensation, significant settlements, and more pressure to share the pie. Some schools will have to cut sports. Others will scramble for new sources of income. A few may double down on football and basketball, risking the future of “non-revenue” sports. The pressure is on for directors to make hard choices. It’s not just about numbers; these decisions shape student opportunities, alumni ties, and campus culture. I’ve seen sports programs change lives. But right now, nothing is specific. Will schools get creative or just cut corners? Where will the cuts happen in the athletic department? How would you tackle this challenge? #collegeathletics #NIL

Big changes are here for college lacrosse—and no one knows where we'll land. The NIL ruling lets schools pay athletes directly. On paper, that sounds like a game-changer for lacrosse. Now, scholarship limits rise from 12.6 to 48 for men and 12 to 38 for women. That's massive. More players could get the support they need. But here's the reality. Most lacrosse programs don't have the budgets you see in football or basketball. Not even close. How many schools can fund those extra scholarships? Not many. That means the gap between big and small programs could grow even wider. Will this attract top talent to the sport or make lacrosse even more top-heavy? Check out the article in my comments below. Every coach and athlete is asking the same question. What's next? It’s a huge moment, but the real impact comes down to dollars, which are hard to come by. What do you think, will this level the playing field or create bigger divides? #collegeathletics #lacrosse

Have you ever wondered how top achievers consistently stay ahead? Here's a revelation that might change your game. The truth is, they don't have more time, resources, or genius. They start. They tackle fear, embrace the unknown, and dive in. Whether launching a new project, learning a skill, or pursuing a dream, their success begins with a single step forward. Consider this: Steve Jobs started Apple in a garage. J.K. Rowling began writing Harry Potter as a single mom on welfare. Their journeys weren't guaranteed, but they initiated action. What's holding you back? It's time to stop waiting for the 'perfect moment.' Let that idea, dream, or goal take its first breath today. Remember, progress favors the bold. So, are you ready to take that crucial first step?

Maximizing today starts now. Let's redefine our perspective. One of my favorite quotes is, “Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today” - Will Rogers. It's not just a quote, a philosophy, or a way of life that we should adopt to ensure our past experiences are not holding us back. Think about it. How often have we let an ill-fated decision, a lost opportunity, or a failed venture interfere with our present actions? How often have we allowed our yesterdays to dictate the pace of our todays? The beauty of today is that it promises a fresh start, unblemished by the mishaps of yesterday. This week, I challenge us to fully embrace the present, shake off yesterday’s dust, and step into the light of a new day. So, why join me in making this week a standout? Let's replace hesitations with actions, doubts with determination, and fear with courage. Let's make today a masterpiece, my friends. Are you ready to reclaim your day? #mondaymotivation

Every career shift is a test of your resilience and adaptability. It’s proof you’re not afraid to trade comfort for opportunity. I’ve watched people thrive after switching industries, learning faster than ever, and unlocking hidden strengths. Would you be thinking about making a move? Feeling stuck in your job? Career change isn't a dead-end; it's a detour. Many people shudder at the thought, overwhelmed by misguided beliefs. But let's set the record straight. Pivoting in your career isn't an admission of failure or incompetence, nor an end to your academic journey. Your worth in the labor market isn't diminished. Quite the opposite, it's a bold testament to your flexibility, adaptability, and ambition. It clearly indicates that you are not confined to a single skillset but can learn, grow, and persevere despite obstacles. A career change is an opportunity - one that allows you to explore different industries, dabble in new roles, and unearth skills you may not have realized you possess. It's a fresh start to reevaluate your goals and align them with your passions. So, let’s stop viewing career shifts as a threat and start embracing them as stepping stones leading us closer to the fulfilling careers we dream of. It's not about finding the right job, it's about finding what's right for you.

Happy Memorial Day to all my connections, family and friends! As we fire up our grills and gather with loved ones on this Memorial Day, let's take a moment to reflect. This day holds a significance that goes beyond the kick-off of summer. It's a chance to remember and honor the brave men and women who laid down their lives for our freedom and security. Each flag flying high today, each moment of silence, embodies the sacrifice of these fallen heroes. Their extraordinary courage, unwavering patriotism, and ultimate sacrifice allowed us to enjoy the privileges we often take for granted. The legacy of these heroes serves as a constant reminder that freedom isn't free. As we enjoy our time with friends and family today, let's remember to cherish these moments, for they were paid for at an unimaginably high price. Today, we salute you, the brave. Your memory lives on, not just on Memorial Day, but every day. So let's extend our gratitude. Reach out to a veteran or active military person, and simply say, Thank you.

The college lacrosse season comes to an end today. I can’t wait for this one. We have #1 Cornell vs. #2 Maryland at 1 p.m. In the first game, Cornell defeated Penn State in a close, back-and-forth match, 11-9. In the second game, Maryland dominated Syracuse, 14-8. This should be an excellent battle for the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Title. Who is your pick to win it all? Congratulations to Tufts winning their 5th D3 championship (winning 25-8 over Dickinson) and Adelphi winning their 9th D2 Championship - second in a row. It came down to OT to beat Tampa, 9-8. Also, what a fantastic season for the UNC’s women’s lacrosse team as they were unbeaten all season and won their 4th NCAA Championship, beating Northwestern, 12-8. #collegeathletics #lacrosse

Could you stop waiting for someone to notice your worth? Monetize your value. You can invest in your skill sets. Become indispensable. When you bet on your growth, everything changes. You create opportunities instead of hoping they come. You build skills that no one can take away. You put yourself in rooms where people push you to level up. I made myself worthwhile by learning new things, not staying comfortable. Every course, late at night, and side project was added up. I became someone people count on, not just someone they like. That’s not luck. That’s strategy. Don’t wait for permission. Find an opportunity, even if you have to build it. Surround yourself with people who force you to grow. You’ll never regret investing in yourself. What’s the one skill you’re working on right now?

I’ve spent the past year transitioning into a different career. Honestly, it’s scary. Second-guessing becomes a daily routine. You wonder if you made the right call or are just chasing something that might never work out. But here’s what I’m starting to figure out: The fear never really goes away. You get better at working through it. Some days, I rely on faith more than anything else. Knowing God’s on my side gives me something to hold onto when self-doubt creeps in. I’ve learned this:   You don’t need to have everything figured out. You need the courage to keep showing up, even when uncertain. So if you’re in the middle of a significant career change (or thinking about one), know this: You’re not alone if you’re scared. You’re not weak for second-guessing yourself. You don’t need a perfect plan. Just take it one day at a time. Lean into the discomfort. And trust that the next step will get clearer as you go. How did you deal with the fear if you’ve made a big transition?

Happy Friday. This is the final weekend of College Lacrosse. Congrats to all the teams that have made it this far. Last weekend, the D1 games didn’t disappoint - all great battles. In D3, Dickinson continued their shocking run - what a fun team to watch. Tufts has been on a roll and I’m looking forward to the D3 Championship.  In D2, we have the two top teams battling it out: Tampa and Adelphi. Here’s my college lacrosse games to watch below. D1 Lacrosse games to watch: Cornell vs Penn State - Saturday at 12:00 pm - Cornell (16-1) beat Richmond, 13–12 in the quarterfinal game on Saturday. On Sunday, Penn State (12-4) beat Notre Dame, 13-11, in their quarterfinal game. Cornell and Penn State battled back on March 8th, with Penn State upsetting them, 13-12. I can’t wait for this rematch. Syracuse vs Maryland - Saturday at 2:30 pm - Syracuse (13-5) beat Princeton, 19-18 in the quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, Maryland (13-3) beat Georgetown, 9-6, in their first round game. Maryland and Syracuse played very early in the season on February 15th, with Maryland winning, 11-7. D2 Championship: Tampa vs Adelphi - Sunday at 4:00 pm - Tampa (21-0) beat Maryville (MO), 12-8 in the semi-final game on Sunday. Adelphi (18-1) beat Saint Anselm, 13-11 in the other semi-final game. This should be a great championship game. D3 Championship: Dickinson vs Tufts - Sunday at 7:00 pm - Dickinson (16-5) beat RIT, 12-10 in the first semi-finals game on Sunday. Their Cinderella story continues as they beat #2 Salisbury last Sunday and continued their season by beating #3 RIT in the semi-final game. #1 Tufts (22-0) continues their dominance, beating Bowdoin, 26-11 on Sunday evening. This should be a great D3 championship. #collegeathletics #lacrosse

I’ve talked to a few coaching / SID friends exploring jobs outside of athletics, please message me if I can help in any way. A friend of mine, a former head coach, landed a managerial role. His ability to stay composed under pressure and motivate her team led to increased sales and rapid promotions. Don't hesitate to leverage your athletic coaching background when seeking opportunities. I'm here to help you in any way I can. Reach out to me, and let's unlock your hidden potential together.

College closures used to feel rare.  Now, it’s a headline you see every month.  7 Penn State Commonwealth campuses will shut down by 2027.   That’s not just numbers.  Thousands of students, faculty, staff, and local communities have to rethink everything.  The pattern is clear.   Higher ed is shrinking.   Budgets are tighter.   Enrollment is down.   Smaller campuses and regional colleges are often the first to go.  Why does this keep happening?   Demographics are shifting.   College costs keep climbing.   Students expect more for their money, and are looking at other ways to learn or launch careers. I’ve seen firsthand how much a local college can mean to its area.   It’s not only about classes, jobs, local businesses, and school pride.   When a campus closes, the whole region feels it.  Are colleges adapting fast enough?   What changes would make a real difference?   The future of higher ed depends on how we answer these questions. Check out the article in my comments below.

College sports are changing fast. Layoffs at the University of Oklahoma Athletic Department are just the start. NIL deals are pouring money into athletes’ pockets. But that cash isn’t coming from nowhere. Departments are forced to fund the players or keep staff on payroll. The winners? Star athletes with big followings. The losers? The behind-the-scenes staff who keep programs running. We’ve seen it in college athletics before. Significant changes usually sound exciting, until jobs get cut. To read more about the University of Oklahoma Athletic Department layoffs, please check the article in my comments below. Are these layoffs a one-off or the new reality for college sports? How does this reshape the industry for everyone, not just athletes? What’s your take?

      3

Unstoppable layoffs – but we can make a difference. Layoffs have become an unfortunate reality for many. Companies, big and small, are cutting back. But there's hope. Here's how we can lend a helping hand: 1. Share job openings - Do you know of open positions? Spread the word! 2. Offer recommendations - Write a LinkedIn recommendation for a colleague or connection in need. 3. Be a sounding board - Listen to those affected and empathize with their struggles. 4. Share resources - make lists of job boards, networking events, or skill-building courses. 5. Leverage your network - Introduce job seekers to potential connections. Let's unite to ease the burden of layoffs. How have you helped someone during their job search? Share your experiences below. Let's grow together!

Spring is my reset button. Fresh air. Sunlight. Dirt under my nails. It’s more than a hobby, it’s fuel. Gardening helps me slow down and see progress, one seed at a time. Long hikes with my great danes (Violet and Cyrus) remind me to be present and enjoy simple moments. Even mowing the lawn lets me unwind and see instant results. Being outside is how I recharge. It changes my mindset, boosts my energy, and makes me better at everything else. What outdoor activities do you turn to when you need a boost? I’d love to hear what gets you moving and inspired!
