Back when I was 16, I started writing on Quora. After 2 years, I landed my first writing gig. Within a month, I was asked to build a team of writers for a project. While I enjoyed writing (and still do), there was something more exciting about building a team and managing the entire project. In due course, I took charge of 90% of the content operations at the firm. Then, in 2020, COVID hit. Most companies cut down on their marketing budget to almost nil. I had to now figure out whether to continue working with the firm or focus on academics and get a decent-paying job. I did not want to work a 9-5, doing something that I didn’t enjoy. I wanted time freedom. I wanted to build something valuable. Everyone was into building software, so I figured that was a quick way to make money. We built something that no one needed. The project was dropped a few months later. As soon as we outsourced the production, we had to start making noise. LinkedIn was the best place. Within a month of posting consistently on LinkedIn, 2 things happened: 1. I ran out of ideas to write about our product. 2. I was starting to enjoy being active on LinkedIn. I switched to writing about productivity and side-hustles instead. Around a month later, my LinkedIn account blew up. I went from 1000 followers to 7000+ followers in just a few weeks. It felt amazing. Justin Welsh invited me to conduct a LinkedIn workshop for his community. I had to speak in front of 100+ entrepreneurs. Everyone loved it and one of them reached out asking if I could write LinkedIn posts for him. This was when I built GrowedIn.
