thank you so much Marcel van Oost for the post, in a previous post I was just talking about the numbers of Nu and how impressive they are, and living here in Berlin just saw Revolut news about getting them at 50 million (that is quite impressive as well), But this graph gives perfect example of the power market that Latam can be, and most important how entrepreneurs such as David Vélez can create in markets that are much more difficult in many ways. It is so important to show great startups from all over the world, and try to see how they are making the impossible, possible and how actually can that apply to new markets. Connecting more LATAM to Europe and becoming real partners collaborating together, wil create benefits for both sides. Nubank is the best example that I tell everyone here in Europe of how LATAM companies such as Nubank can make huge impact and also create a great company with such a valuation in the NYSE!, that you cannot lie to public markets and the value.

Great news for startups around EU, having less barriers to scale the entire EU market is a huge important step.

Durante los últimos 14 años, he estado utilizando la tecnología no solo como una herramienta, sino como un puente que me ha permitido abrir nuevos caminos para LATAM en el escenario global. Ahora, desde mi nueva base en Berlín, estoy empeñado en un desafío aún más audaz: fusionar el vibrante potencial de LATAM con el espíritu innovador de Europa.

Esta semana, viví un encuentro que parecía sacado de una película sobre serendipias y grandes ambiciones. Frente a mí estaba una compatriota, expatriada como yo, que ahora juega un papel crucial en un importante fondo corporativo que busca vigorizar startups en todo el mundo. Su misión es explorar Europa en busca de soluciones innovadoras para invertir.

Su entusiasmo era contagioso. Ella no solo buscaba oportunidades de inversión; estaba forjando conexiones. Conexiones que prometen acercar a LATAM y Europa, no solo en términos comerciales, sino como ecosistemas que puedan prosperar mutuamente a través de nuevas tecnologías y aspiraciones compartidas.

Conversaciones como esta reafirman mi creencia: los sueños que consideramos demasiado audaces o inalcanzables a menudo están más cerca de lo que pensamos, esperando la conexión correcta. Sus planes de pilotar startups europeas en LATAM, y viceversa, no son solo posibles acuerdos comerciales; son el comienzo de nuevas historias que están por escribirse.

That’s the challenge I’ve been tackling since moving to Berlin a few months ago. After years of crafting networks in LATAM and the US, adapting my approach to the European scene has been both thrilling and enlightening. Here are the top strategies I’ve employed, which might just help you too:

𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸: Every successful conversation in Berlin starts long before the actual meeting—understanding local business culture is key.

𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀: LinkedIn and WhatsApp QR codes have replaced traditional business cards. They are perfect for connecting instantly and making lasting impressions.

𝗕𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗬𝗼𝘂: Authenticity has opened more doors for me than any polished pitch ever could.

𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆: The best networkers I’ve met here are great listeners. Berlin's eclectic mix fostered some deep connections.

𝗔𝗱𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁: Before asking for anything, I think about how I can help the person I'm connecting with. This approach builds a foundation of trust and reciprocity.

𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗨𝗽 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗹𝘆: Whether it’s a thank you message or sharing an article related to our conversation, keeping in touch has never been more crucial.

𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Whether it's tech meetups or startup events, being a regular attendee helps you become a familiar face quickly.

𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆: Sharing my story of transitioning from LATAM to Berlin has made my interactions more personal and relatable.

𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀: Swapping QR codes that link directly to my LinkedIn or personal contact is the new norm here, facilitating instant and meaningful connections.

𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Building meaningful relationships takes time, especially in a new country. Patience and persistence are your best allies.

Construyendo Puentes: Mis Lecciones de Networking en Alemania 🌍🤝

En las últimas dos semanas, he tenido la oportunidad de sumergirme en el arte del networking en dos eventos clave en Alemania: uno en Hamburgo y otro en el sector de la salud en Düsseldorf. Quiero compartir algunas reflexiones y aprendizajes que, estoy seguro, nos pueden servir a todos.

𝗘𝗹 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗘𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗿𝘇𝗼 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮: En Hamburgo, hice varios contactos clave en persona. El follow-up post-evento es crucial y ya está empezando a abrir puertas para futuros negocios. Esto me recuerda la importancia de siempre dar un paso más allá, estar atento y ser auténtico en cada interacción porque la pasión es contagiosa y, cuando encuentras personas con un mindset similar, las posibilidades de crear conexiones reales y duraderas se multiplican.

𝗟𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗶ó𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗺𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗼: En Düsseldorf, observé cómo más de 6000 expositores de más de 80 países utilizaban tecnología de punta para conectar con leads y empresas. Sin embargo, lo que realmente ayuda a cerrar tratos es el contacto humano directo y las conversaciones sobre intereses comunes. Esto es lo que finalmente construye la confianza y puede transformar un contacto en una relación comercial duradera.

𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴í𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗼 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼: La tecnología, y herramientas como ChatGPT en el celular, potencian nuestra capacidad de conectar mejor y más rápido, incluso en industrias que no comprendemos del todo. Hoy día, cualquier networker tiene al alcance herramientas que antes eran impensables, y depende de nosotros aprovecharlas para llevar nuestro networking a otro nivel.

Estos son mis primeros días estableciendo un robusto network en Alemania, como lo hice en LATAM y en parte de EE. UU. Alemania y Europa ofrecen un enorme potencial para conectar con personas, tecnologías, inversiones y, sobre todo, para mostrar que LATAM es una región atractiva para negocios mutuamente beneficiosos a largo plazo.

Milei is doing big changes in Argentina, all Latín America expecting in first row something that can be an example to follow in other Latam governments. 

Argentina is a brilliant nation with so great entrepreneurs and amazing companies such Mercado Libre and many others. hopefully we will see a great come back for a great nation.

¿El milagro económico del peluca 🇦🇷 ?
 
Javier Milei se define como un minarquista, es decir, una persona que cree en un Estado pequeño.
 
Un Estado que respete las libertades.
 
Un Estado lo menos regulador posible.
 
Milei cree firmemente en la idea de la mano invisible de Adam Smith. Para que esta funcione los mercados no deben tener interferencia del Estado.
 
Argentina tiene un Estado grande. Un Estado que controla los precios, y un Estado que financiaba su déficit con emisión monetaria. 
 
Javier Milei se propuso desregularlo casi todo. Tiene un ejército de abogados encargados de estudiar cada regulación que existe en Argentina y eliminar las que él considera son una carga para el ciudadano y atentan contra la libertad.
 
Cada desregulación, según Milei, es un privilegio que se le quita a un político.
 
Les quitó la pauta oficial a los medios de comunicación.
 
Milei propuso en campaña acabar con el Banco Central. Sin embargo, ya en oficio, entendió que antes de acabarlo había que sanearlo. La deuda del Banco Central ascendía a 50.000 millones de dólares. Ya sanó deudas por más de 45.000 millones de dólares en 10 meses en ejercicio.

Para él, la eliminación del Banco Central es cuestión de tiempo.

En Argentina se imprimía dinero para financiar déficit por casi 13 puntos del PIB.

Milei controló la emisión monetaria. 
 
LOS LOGROS ECONÓMICOS DE MILEI
 
La producción de petróleo ha alcanzado máximos históricos y está en niveles que no se veían hace 22 años.
 
Argentina tuvo el mes pasado un superávit comercial de 1.600 millones de dólares.

En 10 meses ha reducido la brecha cambiaria, llevándola del 68% al 18%. El objetivo es unificar los precios entre el dólar oficial y el dólar blue.
 
Estudios muestran que la economía se ha resentido, los niveles de pobreza alcanzaron el 52% y la tasa de desempleo subió al 7.7%. Javier Milei argumenta que heredó una inflación de más del 200% al año y una pobreza del 67%.
 
Controlar la inflación para él ha sido la prioridad, pues la inflación es el peor impuesto a los ahorros de la gente. Parece que lo está logrando. Los datos de inflación de octubre fueron cercanos al 2%.
 
Según ANIF, el riesgo país ha caído casi el 50% en estos 10 meses.
 
En el último año, el ARGT, el ETF que rastrea el comportamiento de las 30 empresas más importantes en Argentina, ha subido el 64%.
 
JP Morgan acaba de elevar su proyección de crecimiento de Argentina al 8.5%.
 
Si Milei logra crecer a tasas del 8%, logrará sacar a millones de pobres en Argentina. Si continua a la baja el riesgo país y sigue aumentando la confianza y la inversión, es muy probable que en poco tiempo estemos hablando del milagro económico de Milei.
 
Veremos si el tiempo le da la razón. La cosa va por muy buen camino.

Her enthusiasm was palpable. She wasn't just looking for investment opportunities; she was crafting gateways. Gateways that could bring LATAM and Europe closer, not just in terms of business, but as ecosystems that could mutually thrive through new technologies and shared aspirations.

El cambio es poderoso cuando se abraza con gratitud y conexión. 



Este diciembre es especial, no solo por la llegada de la Navidad, sino también por la celebración del Adviento. En Alemania, el Adviento es una tradición profundamente arraigada que nos invita a la anticipación y reflexión en el camino hacia la Navidad. Es un tiempo para preparar no solo nuestros hogares, con luces y decoraciones, sino también nuestros corazones, con gestos de generosidad y momentos de introspección.

Recientemente, una familia alemana me invitó a vivir sus tradiciones de Adviento, y esto me recordó la importancia de la apertura y la amabilidad. A pesar de las diferencias culturales y de nacionalidad, las conexiones genuinas tienen el poder de trascender cualquier frontera. Esta experiencia comenzó de manera sencilla, al conocer a un padre en la escuela de mi hijo. Nuestra conversación inicial, aunque a primera vista podía parecer intimidante, floreció en una bella amistad fortalecida a través de almuerzos en las oficinas de Google, donde mi amigo ha trabajado por más de 15 años, y encuentros para tomar café.

Aunque estas nuevas amistades no pueden reemplazar a mis amigos de toda la vida en Bolivia, siento que estos lazos son honestos y desinteresados, llenos de una sinceridad que valoro profundamente. Es realmente asombroso cómo una conversación valiente puede llevar a la formación de una red de más de 15 padres, creando un espacio para la camaradería y la colaboración. Nos apoyamos mutuamente, compartimos experiencias y aprendemos unos de otros, lo cual enriquece nuestras vidas de maneras inesperadas.

A medida que este año llega a su fin, deseo un diciembre lleno de gratitud, reflexión y la promesa de más conexiones significativas en el año que viene. Mi deseo para todos es que abracen el espíritu del Adviento y la Navidad, dejando que la conexión y la generosidad guíen sus acciones.
