“I hate my job. But I love the financial stability that it brings.
What should I do?”

I recently got this as an email from a reader.

Here’s how to deal with it:

You have financial stability right now. Do not dismiss it.
That stability is important.

Now, become obsessive about your time.

Do your work diligently, but spare as much time as you can after that to explore.

Your nights, weekends, holidays — whatever you can manage.
Explore different things that you feel you could be good at.

Most of us do it wrong:

We quit our jobs.
Put the pressure on a new path to make us money.
When it is way too early to be monetised.

Enjoy the exploration.
Refine your skills and knowledge over time.

Because here’s the thing:

When you find something you truly enjoy and are good at,
You will eventually find a way to make money from it.

Which is when you can say no to your job.

Stability gives you the freedom to explore, if you use it wisely.
Play the long game, and one day, your curiosity will pay your bills!

Proof that luck happens to those who make it!

August 2014.

We’d just wrapped up a leadership offsite in Seattle.

My flight to Delhi via Amsterdam got delayed, and I missed my connecting flight.

The next flight? 
24 hours later.

The airline gave me a 50 euro food coupon. 
I politely declined.

I wasn’t spending 24 hours in the airport on 50 euros!

Instead, I asked for a 1-day transit visa.

They were shocked by the audacity of the demand.
But when they saw I was serious (and had a valid US visa), they checked.

Two hours later, I had a 2-day transit visa and a hotel booked.

By the time I reached the hotel, it was 7pm.

My flight was at 3pm the next day.
I had two options:

Stay in, or explore Amsterdam — a city I’d never seen.

I grabbed my camera, took an Uber to Amsterdam Centraal, and started clicking.

The energy was electric — people eating, dancing, laughing.

We liked one of the photos so much that we framed it at home (picture in the comment section).

Fast forward to 2016.

I was on a Delhi-Mumbai flight, flipping through Jet Airways’ magazine.

An ad caught my eye:

Holland Tourism Board — Photography Contest.
Submit photos clicked in Holland. 
The winner gets an all-expenses-paid trip to Amsterdam.

I submitted three. One was the framed photo.

Did I expect to win? Not at all.

But I entered — just to honour the weird, beautiful chain of events that led to that photo.

A month later, I saw Jet Privilege’s Facebook post. 

My name. First place!

April 2017.

Ruchi (pregnant with Uzma), Vidur and I took our first Europe trip — to Amsterdam :)

This incident was yet another reminder how not to second guess yourself.

Instead, to take your chances.
At best, you will fail.

But if you win, however little your chances…
You could kickstart a path you had no idea you'd be on!

If you don't ask, the answer is always no!

Give me 5 minutes to walk you through 5 life concepts that not enough people know:

1. Goodhart's Law

“When you start focusing too much on achieving a specific goal or metric, you may end up ignoring other factors that could impact your overall success.”

For example, neglecting your health and relationships to achieve a money goal.

Keep your eyes on the bigger picture.
Life is a marathon, not a sprint.

2. The Zeigarnik Effect

"People remember uncompleted or interrupted tasks better than completed tasks."

This can be your way to overcome procrastination.

By starting small with the big, overwhelming tasks, your mind will "ping you" to finish them as they are in progress.

3. Parkinson's Law

"Work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion".

If you give yourself a week to complete a task, it will likely take you the entire week to finish it — even if you could have completed it in a shorter amount of time.

If you set a shorter deadline for yourself, you're more likely to work efficiently to meet that deadline.

4. Solomon's Paradox

“You can give great advice to others but struggle to apply that same advice to your own life.”
Happens to me quite often :))

Try to distance yourself from the situation before dealing with it to gain more clarity.

5. Pareto Principle

This is the well-known 80/20 rule.
“In any given situation, 80% of the results will come from just 20% of the effort.”

Instead of trying to do everything, focus on the few things that will create the biggest impact.
Build in your strengths.

6 months.
That's all it takes to alter the course of your life.

Think of a tree. 

You plant the seed, water it daily, and give it sunlight. 

For months, you may see nothing. 
And then, suddenly, it breaks through.

That's how change works in our lives too.

For the first few weeks, maybe even months, it feels invisible. 

Doubt creeps in and motivation fades - this is where most give up.

But those who show up with or without motivation, build a foundation that will last a lifetime.

Six months of consistency for decades of transformation.
You owe it to your future self to plant that seed today.

I used to think getting rich was about how much you earn.

Until I read The Psychology of Money, and these 5 lessons changed my mindset:

1. Being rich is NOT being wealthy.

Whenever you go to someone's lavish house, you will always think:
"Wow! What a magnificent & spacious house."

Never: "Wow! What a massive loan they might have on their head."

We think being rich = things people have that we can see.
Being wealthy means you earn without spending your time.

2. Controlling your time is the biggest wealth.

If you are earning money for the sake of earning money & spending it on lavish things, you're running on a lifelong treadmill.

But if you earn money with the motivation of buying more time,
That will be the true value of money.
That will set you free.

3.  Generate luck as a discipline in life.

Let's say you write 100 cold emails per day, for a freelance gig.
Let's assume that you get 5 replies out of 100.

In this case, you're increasing your odds of getting lucky everyday.
Because one day, there will be a reply which can change your life.

4. Compounding is the 8th wonder of the world.

Small changes in one direction make a huge difference over a long period of time.

This is not just for your investments.

It also applies to organisations, relationships, and personal abilities.

5. Money is not important if you can't sleep at night.

What's the point of having crores in your bank, if you are not able to sleep?
Or what's the point of investing in risky instruments that keep you up at night?

No amount of money is worth more than your sleep.

When you spend your energy chasing validation, you drain the energy you could be using to build yourself.

If they don't align with you and don't deserve you, is that effort truly worth it?

The right people will value your effort and your presence.
Without you having to prove your worth at every step.

The ones meant for you will see you as enough, exactly as you are.

"I want to reach 1 crore in the next 3-4 years."

I received an email this morning.

From someone who earns well, has a stable job, is well-qualified, and has been investing for over 5 years.

Her investment corpus is 25 lakhs, which is impressive.
But her email mentioned a common, naive goal: to get rich quick.

In personal finance, compounding is key.
But this post isn't about compounding — most of you know it.

It's about a problem with the youth: 
You understand compounding, but haven't experienced it.

That's not your fault.

Because you haven't had what is the most important ingredient of compounding.
Time!

If you're in your 20s or 30s, you haven't seen 15-20 years of compounding.

This leads to a desire to "Get rich fast," like in the email.

The only quick way to wealth is the lottery.
Nearly everything else takes time and relies on compounding.

But without seeing it work, you might doubt it — leading to risky shortcuts or scams promising instant returns.

Now, you have two options:

1. Ignore compounding and chase quick riches
2. Trust it and build wealth steadily.

Everyone talks about the importance of a mentor.
But how do you know if it’s the right mentor? 
And how do you seek their time?

First — 3 signs of a good mentor:

1. The mentor should NOT be the only one you have.

One person can't take care of everything.

You need to have multiple mentors catering to fields they can help with.

For example, I have different mentors for money, career, spirituality, people management, etc.

2. The mentor should NOT be much older than you.

When 20-year-olds write to me requesting for me to become their mentor, I have a facepalm moment.

I will make a horrible mentor to a 20-year-old.

Because things that are obvious to me are things the other person would not have even experienced (for no fault of theirs).

What you want is a mentor who is 5-10 years older than you.
So that they offer a relatable perspective.

3. The mentor should NOT think like you.

If they do, you will get the same answers that you too would have come up with.

The mentor needs to challenge your thinking; ask you questions to push you in a new direction that you could explore.

Second — once you identify who that person can be, simply ask:

- Send cold emails
- Request them for an hour a month
- Be clear about what you want from them in that hour, and update them on your progress.

As long as you are not looking for a celebrity as your mentor, you will be surprised by how many people will find the time and space to help you.

I’ve met several toxic people across different areas of my life.
And I found these 3 patterns common among them: 

1) Those who make fun of your insecurities and when you are hurt, tell you that you are too sensitive.

2) Those who do not contribute to the relationship, but expect you to be invested and engaged in the relationship.

3) Those who dismiss your success as luck or destiny and never acknowledge your hard work or capability.

We may not always get to choose our relationships. 
But the worst tragedy is to choose the wrong ones, despite knowing they are wrong.

Don't do this to yourself.

3 things we take for granted (until life reminds us how lucky we truly are):

1. The people who remind you who you are when you forget

The mentor who challenges you.
The friend who listens without judgment.
The manager who believes in you even when you’re doubting yourself.

They’re the reason you keep growing.

2. The work that challenges you

Some days it feels like you’re barely keeping up.
The goals keep moving, the expectations keep rising.
And you wonder if you’re doing enough.

But that same work is teaching you how capable you really are.
You’re learning to trust your judgment, to speak up, and to back yourself even if no one else does.

3. The stability that lets you dream

It’s hard to think long-term when you’re worried about next month’s bills.

If your career gives you stability — enough to plan, to rest, to imagine what’s next — that’s something to be grateful for.

It’s the invisible foundation most ambition is built on.

1) What is your happiest memory of us?
2) How was the first year of parenthood for you?
3) What is the nicest thing I have ever done for you?
4) What are the best & worst parts about getting older?
5) What’s one thing you want me to always remember after you are gone?

When you’re 20, you care about what everyone thinks.
When you're 40, you stop caring about what everyone thinks.
When you're 60, you realize no one was ever thinking about you in the first place.

We waste years living under an invisible spotlight.

We hesitate to post that idea, start that project, or make that change.
Even if we’re more capable than everyone else. 
Why? Because we’re afraid of being judged.

Most people are too caught up in their own lives to think about ours for long.
They’ll scroll past, move on, and forget.
While we’re still holding back.

Try one of these this week:

- Post the idea you’ve been sitting on.
- Pitch the project even if it’s not “perfect.”
- Say the thing that’s real instead of what’s safe.
- Try and fail publicly. Most people won’t even try privately.

Every day you delay out of fear, you reinforce the idea that someone else’s opinion matters more than your potential.

It doesn’t.
It never did.

Do the thing.
Be seen doing it.
Let them watch (or not).

You exist for yourself. Not to perform for them.

Not everything important is urgent.
To cut the noise and focus better, I use the Eisenhower Matrix:

- Do what’s urgent AND important. 
This drives results.

- Delegate what’s urgent, but NOT important. 
Pass them on. Your time is better spent elsewhere. Extremely accessible now thanks to AI.

- Schedule what’s important, but NOT urgent. 
No matter how busy you are, protect time for this. 
It moves you forward long-term.

- Eliminate what’s NEITHER urgent NOR important. 
This wastes your energy.

Constant responsiveness creates the illusion of progress while stealing time from the work that actually moves us forward.

If everything feels urgent, it’s usually because priorities aren’t clear.
And when priorities aren’t clear, urgency fills the gap.

The goal isn’t to do everything faster.
It’s to decide what deserves your attention before the day begins.

5 psychological hacks that will make you sharper at work:

1. When nervous, chew gum.

Chewing gum tricks your brain into thinking you’re relaxed.
You wouldn’t be eating if you were in danger!

If you don’t have gum, try deep breathing: in through your nose (stomach expands), out through your mouth (stomach contracts).

Do it 7 times before a big meeting or presentation.
It resets your nervous system and keeps your voice calm and steady.

2. Notice where people’s feet point in group settings.

It’s a subtle way to read the room’s energy during networking or team discussions.

If their feet point towards you, they’re engaged.
If away, they’re ready to move on.

Use it as a cue. If interest is fading, engage others into the conversation or pivot your point.

3. Mirror (don’t mimic) body language.

People connect faster when they feel in sync.

If they’re calm, lower your voice. 
If they’re enthusiastic, meet their energy halfway.

It creates psychological safety and connection fast.

4. Ask for advice, not help.

People love to feel useful, and advice appeals to their expertise.

It shifts the power dynamic, builds trust, and strengthens your work relationships.

5. End interactions on a positive, specific note.

After a meeting, say, “Thanks for how clearly you explained that,” or “I really appreciate your time today.”

People remember how they felt in your presence, not the details of the meeting.

Reinforcing traits that make people want to work with you again.

If you find your work boring, chances are you’re on the right path.

We’ve glamorised success so much that we’ve forgotten what it actually looks like.

Success is boring, more often than not.

It’s showing up when you don’t feel motivated.
It’s showing up when you’ve lost interest.
It’s showing up even when it’s not working out.

That’s the phase where you actually build mastery.
And it’s also the phase where most people quit — right before they’re about to succeed.

Because only when you do the same thing, over and over again, do you truly perfect it.

Every Monday for the past 5 years, I shoot all video content for the week:

- 4 YouTube videos
- 7 Instagram reels
- 14 YouTube shorts
- 4-6 ads

8 hours. 
In a flow. 
I don’t leave my studio on Mondays until everything is shot!

When I started creating content (and this applies even today), I did not have any goals.
Only a process.

And it’s the process that got me and my team here.

Success is hidden inside boredom.
Most people run away from it.

The few who don’t, end up living the life others dream of.

Five years ago, Shaurya thought his life was over.
He didn't clear JEE.
His dad was from IIT.
He felt like a failure.

Today?
He just bought his dad a ₹55L BMW, as a retirement gift.

This post isn't about money.

It's about a thought that arrives late, but always arrives.
A thought that doesn't help when you're down, but makes sense only in hindsight.

The thought that life eventually works out.

Shaurya, aged 25, joined my team 5 years ago.

He attempted the IIT-JEE and gotten rejected.
This made him feel like an absolute failure, especially since his dad was from IIT!

To top this, he doesn't redeem himself by doing engineering.
Instead, he loses his mind and does a BBA degree!

He weighed 110+ kgs.
Felt like he let down his parents.
Hated his college.
Was convinced his life won't work out!

Shaurya bought a BMW last week.
For his dad - as a retirement gift.
A 55L retirement gift!

He earns 7 figures every month. 
The down payment of the car would be less than 5% of his net worth.
The EMI would be less than 7% of his monthly salary.
Plus, he is his fittest self now!

It took him just 5 years, for his life to work out.
But go back to the day he didn't make it to IIT.

Go back to the day when he realized he was in an uninspiring college.
Go back to the day when he would look at his body and perhaps feel ashamed.
On those days, knowing that 'Life will eventually work out' would NOT have helped.

And that's the irony of life.
Life eventually works out.
But it doesn't help to know that, when you are dejected.
When you have failed.

Here is what helped me:
KEEP MOVING!

If we all believe that life will eventually work out, the only thing we can do is to keep moving.

Not wallow in our pain.
Not feel like a victim.
Not blame others.

Shaurya moved.
Life eventually worked out.

And it will for you as well.
Keep Moving.

Humans are wired to think short-term and this holds us back.
Here's a blueprint to rewire this instinct and build real progress:

When we were cavemen and women, instant decisions kept us alive.

Today, it's more comfortable to watch Netflix instead of putting in hard hours of reading or developing skills.

So, how do we break this pattern?

5 long-term decisions that shape our future:

1. Who we choose to be with — a partner who supports our growth.
2. Who we work with — people whose values align with ours.
3. What we do with our money — investing instead of spending impulsively.
4. What we eat — choosing health over convenience.
5. What we consume — the content, ideas, and conversations that shape your mind.

Step 1: Rate yourself (1-5) on each.

Step 2: Start by improving the area you're closest to scoring a 5 in.

Step 3: Then move on to the next.

It might take 2–4 years to get all 5s, but that's small when you realize it's less than 5% of your whole life.

Start today.
Your future self will thank you.

We answer emails, fix problems, help others — all important and unavoidable.
But it's all *today*'s work.

The more we keep choosing today's work,  the further tomorrow slips away.
If we only work for today, tomorrow never changes.

What if we extended that importance to ourselves?

Make yourself a simple promise:

Every single day, take out 30mins-1hour for your future self.

Read.
Learn.
Build.

Because one day, that 30-minute habit will become the reason you're not stuck answering the same emails, fixing the same problems, and living the same "today" on repeat.

You think your interview went well. 
But then you get rejected.
Why does that happen?

The 7–38–55 rule of interviews explains it perfectly.

Only 7% of your interview success depends on what you say.

38% depends on how you say it, which includes your tone, confidence, and clarity.

But the remaining 55%? 
That’s body language, where most people fail.

- 67% of rejections happen due to lack of eye contact.
- 45% due to excessive hand or body movements.
- 30% because of a weak handshake.
- 40% because of poor posture.

You can rehearse your words a hundred times.
But if your body language doesn’t align with your responses, it doesn’t make an impact.

The goal isn’t to look confident — that falls short.
It’s to feel it, so your body naturally follows.
