As an author, speaker, and educator, I have dedicated my career to creating resources that support, empower, and amplify Black women and their businesses. I have over 10 years of experience in writing, publishing, and e-learning, with a focus on social justice, diversity, and inclusion.

I recently published my first book, I'm Not Yelling: A Black Woman's Guide to Navigating the Workplace, which became a #1 bestseller in multiple categories and received rave reviews from readers and media outlets. The book offers strategic guidance on how Black businesswomen can overcome workplace discrimination and assert their rightful place in corporate America. 

I also launched the Black History & Culture Academy, an online platform that provides courses and workshops on Black history, culture, and identity. My advocacy in education earned me the recognition of being a LinkedIn Top Voice in Education in 2020.

My newest book is called Protecting My Peace: Embracing Inner Beauty & Ancestral Power.Through my writing and teaching, I aim to inspire Black women to reclaim their peace, protect their voice, and embrace their inner beauty and ancestral power.

I want to pay tribute to people around America who are paying an extraordinary and unnecessary price for speaking up for humanity.

These include the students and faculty of Columbia University, over 100 of whom were arrested by the New York City Police Department at a pro-peace rally, at the behest of their own university's administration, and several of whom have been suspended. Columbia University President Minouche Shafik's attacks against her own community are political, immoral, craven, and outrageous.

I have spoken in colleges and universities across the country, and I continue to hear the same thing from faculty in each of them: The students are not the problem. But whenever students try to speak up on Gaza, it is trustees, alums, and donors who reach out to administrations, trying to quash free speech on campus. The interference of moneyed influence in our academia is a threat to the free speech that is vital to a functioning education system. Shame on those who bow to it!

I also want to note the courage of Google employees, 28 of whom were fired after protesting their company's involvement in the Project Nimbus cloud and AI contract with the Government of Israel. As we understand from inside reporting, this contract, to which Amazon Web Services (AWS) is also a party, forbids the companies from halting services due to boycott pressure. In recent weeks we have learned of Israel's use of AI programs such as Lavender and "Where's Daddy" that have played a key role in the murder of thousands of innocents in Gaza, and whose use likely violates international law. These employees, and their colleagues who are part of the NoTechForApartheid movement are on the right side of history, while Google and Amazon will go down with companies like IBM and HUGO BOSS who look back on their own wartime histories with shame.

This is not a problem limited to America: In Germany in the past week we have seen the outrageous censorship and closure of the Palestine Congress event, and the expulsion of the heroic humanitarian doctor, Ghassan Abu Sitta  FRCS(Plast). Germany has clearly failed to learn the lessons of its own history: "never again" must mean "never again for anyone" - or it is meaningless.

This clampdown on free speech is an attempt to relieve political pressure on Western governments, and thereby exists to enable the continuing Israeli war crimes in Gaza

But reflecting on these incidents and many more, it is clear it is not just pro-Palestinian speech that is at risk, but activism and speech on human rights writ large that is under threat. When governments and other leaders decide that some calls for human rights are censorable or punishable with arrest and expulsion, we may be sure that the censoring and punishment of other calls for human rights will follow. This is indicative of a fundamental crack in the democratic system.

We must all speak up against it - or in the years to come, we may find there is no one left who can speak up for us.

Reverse Racism does not exist. 

Racism is code for white supremacy and the ways in which whiteness is held as the human standard to which everything is measured by. 

White people & white passing people benefit from the unearned advantage of white supremacy delusion globally.

Reverse Colourism does not exist either. Colourism, along with texturism & featurism, is how one’s proximity to whiteness provides privilege & access. Light-skin folks are seen as more palatable, trust-worthy & closer to the white beauty standard. 

When we are talking about racism, we are talking about power, domination & structural oppression. 

No matter what part of the world you go to, you can see vividly & viscerally the impacts of racism aka white supremacy. 

Throughout the continent of Africa, skin bleaching is a billion dollar industry & France still extracts over 500 billion dollars from former African colonies. 

Almost all 54 countries in the continent of Africa have been colonized, exploited, extracted, subjugated, looted & destabilized by white Europeans & the white western world. 

In Caribbean countries like Barbados, $4.9 TRILLION dollars is owed from centuries of slavery & its enduring impacts today. 

So-called Canada & America are literally built from the attempted annihilation of Indigenous peoples + over 250 years of enslavement of Black African peoples. 

The so-called U.S has perpetuated the ‘International Crime of Genocide’ against the Native Hawaiian peoples recognized by law & are still under illegal occupation.

British colonizers devastated India through a system of legal plunder, known as the “drain of wealth” leaving a legacy of deprivation & inequity.

White Europeans massacred Indigenous peoples in what we call Australia & used tactics of mass incarceration while forcibly displacing the original inhabitants from their own lands. 

Sound familiar? I could go on & on for pages & pages because this is the White Supremacy BLUEPRINT.

So white people & those who subscribe to whiteness need to start studying ‘the history of Whiteness’ & demanding reparations for the Black, Brown, Indigenous & Racialized peoples aka The Global Majority.

When you hear it said so plainly it is disgusting! No more IMPERIALISM! No more GREED! NO MORE OPPRESSION! 

🧐Did you know that Silence and inaction masked as professionalism perpetuates inequality and systemic racism in a number of ways. 

First, by failing to speak out against racism and discrimination, individuals uphold and perpetuate the status quo. This silence allows harmful attitudes and behaviors to go unchallenged, perpetuating systemic inequality. 

Second, a lack of action can indirectly condone discriminatory practices within organizations. When individuals remain silent in the face of injustice, they are complicit in maintaining systems that oppress marginalized groups. 

Third, staying silent can create a culture of fear and intimidation, where speaking out against racism is seen as unprofessional or disruptive. This can lead to further marginalization of those who do speak out, creating a hostile work environment for people of color. 

Fourth, silence and inaction can prevent necessary change from occurring. By not addressing racism and inequality, individuals are preventing progress towards a more equitable society. 

Finally, by prioritizing a sense of professionalism over social justice, individuals are failing to recognize the importance of using their platforms and privilege to advocate for marginalized communities. In essence, silence and inaction perpetuate inequality and systemic racism by upholding harmful norms and structures that disadvantage people of color.

Remember a few months ago when we told you to throw DEI in the trash if you can't include JUSTICE?

Remember how y'all got mad, and you said that's not true? Ok... Just checking! 🤔

I'm dropping a framework below that I learned from the brilliant Dr. D-L Stewart in our podcast interview conversation a couple of years ago.

If justice is not at the root of your efforts they will fail. I don't care if you're in a corporate organization. ANY Corporation's functions and needs are shaped by the LAW. And corporate entities use the LAW to minimize and prevent harm or ease challenges of employees’ personal lives to promote well-being and productivity. 

The enforcement of these laws pertaining to PEOPLE improve psychological wellbeing and the resulting freedom and imagination required to drive innovation. Sexual Harassment Laws, FMLA, and the CROWN Act are examples.

Don't tell me that Justice and the LAW are not intertwined with Corporate Responsibility. If you tell me that, you are LYING. And not only are you LYING. YOU are complicit in the mass trauma, psychological unsafety, and disillusion with America that we are not safe in the country that kidnapped our Forefathers to build it, yet thinks they owe us nothing but Black boxes on Instagram, "motivational" platitudes about "leaning in," and snarky comments to "pull ourselves up by our bootstraps."

YOU are complicit in the results, documented by the studies YOU fund and conduct. Then YOU ponder on the statistics, wondering how this can be so!🤦🏽‍♀️

YOU are complicit in the REALITY that we aren't safe. YOU are causing the decline in mental health that is rampant across the Black community and has been in the more than 150 years since the "end of slavery" in 1865. 

If nobody else won't tell you, I will. WE are scared of YOU!! YOU have never been scared of us because whenever you "feel threatened" YOU lynch, torture and kill US. We don't do that to YOU. We never have, even when you came to Africa to kidnap us. The irony is so sad. 

But we are so conditioned to work without complaint that WE won't say the quiet part out loud for fear of making YOU mad. There are people who won't like this post because they are SCARED of their boss. THAT is not JUSTICE. And I don't care what you say, that's NOT DEI. 

I bet y'all won't do an "uncomfortable conversation" or a "Lunch-and-Learn" about that!
