Finishing at 2 might seem like a small thing.

My partner is a sparky – and I literally don’t understand a single thing he does.

Nah. Not got a single clue ✌️

What’s wild is how many people ring him up for advice on doing it themselves.
Then he ends up going round to fix what they started.
(Dodgy light switches. No power upstairs. You name it.)

And people do the exact same thing with websites.

They think:
"How hard can it be?"
And three weeks later they’ve managed to create something that’s completely unresponsive… and will never rank. 😅 

Without structure, design, speed, and SEO built in from the start – you’re not going to make it very far sadly 😬

Because just like electrics, web design isn’t something you can wing.

Yes it’s about looks but it’s also about how it works.

This time last week marked 2 years at MadeByShape 🤍



I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again –
my life is unrecognisable compared to 2 years ago.

And it changed for the better.

Back then, I had:
A Master's in Marketing ✔️
A degree in English Language and Popular Music 
Zero clue what I wanted to do career-wise
And I was running a pub 🍻 

I didn’t have a clear plan.
But I knew there was more to life than this. 

Now I’m doing work I genuinely enjoy, surrounded by mint people, working for people who genuinely care about their staff. 

It's mad to think where I might've been now if I hadn't sent that email to Andrew Golpys. 

Maybe I'd still be pouring pints ... who knows? 🤷‍♀️🍻

Stock photos vs. lifestyle imagery on websites – let’s talk about it: 


I get it – stock photos are easy.
They’re cheap.
They’re instant.
And for a quick fix? They do the job.

But here’s the problem 👇

They’re also
🙄 overused
🙄 soulless
🙄 painfully obvious

Especially when you’re a service-based business trying to build trust.

People don’t connect with a smiling stranger in a staged office shot.

They connect with you. Your face. Your team. Your vibe.

Now, I’m not here to fully cancel stock images – they’ve got their place:
✔️ Blog headers and thumbnails 
✔️ Abstract filler visuals

But don’t let it make up your entire website. 

Real photos = real connection 🖤 

Yes, they take more time.
Yes, they cost more.
But you gain more. 

→ Uniqueness (nobody else has your photos)
→ Flexibility (you control the vibe + setup)
→ Authenticity (which = trust, which = conversions)
→ It looks milesss better aesthetically 

You don’t need a full-blown photoshoot to make it work.

Start with a few lifestyle shots:

We've all been there - busy with life so much to the point we neglect our health. 

So we wanted to help Time in creating an identity that made people believe change was possible 😅

We built their brand identity from the ground up – strategy, tone of voice, visuals, and web design. 

🏋️‍♀️ Their logo? Simple, strong, and determined – just like the clients they’re inspiring. 

🏋️‍♀️  The bold colour palette and typography? Represent energy, science, and the drive to push forward. 

Every element works together to tell a story, evoke emotion, and, most importantly, instil confidence 💪🏼

Because that’s what branding is about. Yes you want it to look good. But it goes deeper than that. 

It has to make you feel something. Trust. Belief. Excitement. The reaction your brand evokes is what keeps people coming back.

2 years at MadeByShape 🤍 

Time flies when ya having fun ✈️👩‍💻📝

I hired a pub manager to work at my design agency 2 years ago yesterday.

Time flies by when you're having fun, right... ✈️ 

When Kerry Hounslea reached out to me, we had no job vacancies. But her opening email caught my eye, and because she was local - I brought her in for a chat.

That chat opened up possibilities about a content writing role.

Kerry was the manager of a local pub, and she mentioned a few lads names in that 'interview' that I knew.

I messaged them to ask 'what's this girl like?'

They responded, and I went to 'test' Kerry myself... by turning up at one of her pub shifts to have a pint at the bar, and see how she dealt with customers.

I knew Kerry had a personality that fit in perfectly at MadeByShape but I didn't know what the role was going to be.

👉 You have to be human. 
👉 Have to be able to have a laugh. 
👉 And of course … have to be hardworking and able to do the job. 

Fast-forward 2 years and Kerry now successfully...

✅  Writes content for our SEO clients
✅  Manages social accounts
✅  Is my go-to person for odd jobs
✅  Is my therapist half the time

Her lifestyle has changed.
She no longer has to work weekends, late nights, and deal with drunken customers.

She's an important member of the team, and super important to me personally. She helps with my workload and doesn't moan about anything.

But my lifestyle has changed having Kerry with us.
So.... here's to Kerry - and many more years at MadeByShape

Branding a care home group without the usual clichés 🏡


That was the challenge with SferaCare – a new name in the healthcare space that wanted to do things differently.

Less clinical, more comforting.
Less corporate, more human.


Over 12 weeks, we helped them build a brand that actually feels like care:

 – A visual identity rooted in warmth, with soft colours and a home-shaped logo

 – A bespoke Craft CMS website that gives a real insight into daily life at SferaCare – from resident stories to virtual tours

 – Clear, human-centred content that connects, not just informs

 – Marketing materials, signage, presentations – everything consistent, everything on-brand


This was about repositioning what a care home can be – a place for the next chapter of life, not the last 🤍

A Shopify site that actually feels luxury.

That was the brief from Nth Degree – a high-end outdoor furniture brand that needed a digital home to match the quality of their products.


Here’s what we did (in just 4 weeks 👀):

 – Designed a sleek, stripped-back site that puts craftsmanship front and centre

 – Custom-built a Shopify store that’s easy to browse and convert

 – Added functionality like sample swatch ordering, wishlists, memberships and custom shipping rates

 – Integrated third-party apps without it feeling clunky

 – Used custom meta fields + meta-objects to give each product a proper story


All wrapped up in a clean, minimal design that lets the furniture do the talking.

404 pages don’t have to be boring 🥱


Ok so you’ve lost someone on your site. They’ve clicked a broken link, mistyped a URL, or wandered somewhere they weren’t supposed to...

So what do you give them?

☹️ A dead-end and a sad little “page not found”? 
😝 Or a moment of personality that keeps them smiling (and sticking around)? 

👉 Ours says:
 “404 – oh sh*t, this is embarrassing.”


Because yes – it’s a mistake.
But we’re owning it.

And more importantly, we’re still on brand 👌

The way I see it, a 404 page is:
– A chance to be human
– A tiny bit of unexpected delight
– And a reminder that not every error is a major issue - it's not that deep


It’s the little things that make your site feel alive ✨
