Earlier this year, when I joined Dakota Robertson’s program, I expected a lecture on hooks or structure. Instead, he asked us to write down...

I used to scroll the same way, mildly irritated, vaguely convinced the platform was doing it to me. 

Then it hit me: the algorithm was only returning the signals I kept giving it.

A quiet, annoying truth: your feed is usually a mirror, not a mystery.

And an even stranger one: it changes the moment you change.

So I began tidying, following the voices that made me think, muting the ones that didn’t, clearing out the rest. 

The shift was quick, almost unsettling in its speed.

It made me see how much noise survives purely by our willingness to listen.

Once you stop offering that, the whole place settles into something far more bearable.

I wasted my twenties waiting for life to show up.

Like some f*cking Amazon delivery that never came.

Kept refreshing the tracking link.

Checking my phone.

Waiting for the doorbell.

Then it hit me:

Nothing's coming.

Life doesn't deliver itself to your door.

You have to go get it.

You don't need a massive plan.

You just need to move.

One small, awkward step.

I sometimes wonder how many of us would admit we watch porn, then smile when we realise I mean the other…

The productivity stuff, the neat dashboards and colour-coded calendars we show off on a “professional” platform already full of our stories, sick days, wins, and losses.

For years I treated those systems like outfit changes for my ambition: 
- new calendar, 
- new labels, 
- new folders, 
- a fresh Notion page, 
that small hit of “now I’m ready…

Followed by the quiet realisation that nothing had moved, because I was still avoiding the one thing I had to do.

The more I watched myself, the more it felt like the same bargain people make with real porn: a quick escape, a brief illusion of control, none of the work that builds a life, a brand, clients, or craft.

So when I catch myself polishing a workflow instead of writing, 

I remember LinkedIn has its own porn habit, and that most of us thought of the other kind first; 

In that pause before we tweak again instead of facing the task we’ve been dodging all week, we’re the only ones who know which kind we’re really choosing.

Even if I’m doing sales calls in boxers…
These 7 phrases helped me close 30% of them.
I wish I could say I nailed it early but…
I blew more calls than I care to admit.

Here’s the 1 thing that finally turned it around:

#1 rule: Stop apologizing in client calls. 

Your words…
…sell you before your work does.

Have the following phrases on the side, but do not look at them all the time, cuz if you don’t listen, you will fu*k it up for sure. Learn from my mistake.

Calm down; you will lose prospects a few times, but over time, you will use these phrases at the right time automatically.

You need to sound confident and clear; that's it.

I read about a 15 year-old boy 
who earned a PhD in quantum physics, 
and something in the story stayed with me long after the headline faded. 

His timeline moved so quickly it almost felt fictional, school finished early, a master’s degree completed before most kids learn to drive, and now a doctorate that would intimidate adults twice his age.

The part that caught me wasn’t the achievement; it was the reason behind it. 

He lost his grandparents at 11, and decided to understand aging itself. 

A child trying to make sense of loss the only way he knew how, by studying the machinery of time.

Universities want him, companies want him, yet his parents keep slowing the world down so he can grow without being turned into a trophy. 

I found that detail oddly comforting.

As I read, I kept glancing at the date on my screen. December 7. 

The familiar promise of “I’ll start next year” hovering in the background. 

Meanwhile this boy moved forward without waiting for the calendar to grant him permission.

It made me wonder whether motivation is less about ambition and more about having a reason you can’t ignore. 

When the picture is clear enough, you don’t negotiate with the calendar. 
You simply begin.

Sometimes it feels like I should apologize for my childhood, it wasn’t traumatic.
Shoutout to parents who never broke their kids and never get credit for it.

I keep seeing these “I survived hell and built myself” stories on LinkedIn.

Nothing wrong with them. 
Respect to the people who climbed out.

But that wasn’t my life.

I didn’t grow up in chaos.

No addictions.
No slammed doors.
No fear walking into the kitchen.
No “we had nothing, but we had grit” speeches.

My parents kept a small world steady.

Dinner that smelled like home.
Arguments that never turned into storms.
Mistakes that stayed mistakes, not labels stuck to my forehead.

For a long time, I thought this was normal.

Only later did I realize how much that quiet foundation carried me.

It carried me when I moved countries at 19 with no English.
It carried me when I changed careers at 40.
It carried me when I started a business from nothing.
It carried me when we struggled with IVF and kept going.

Some people rise because they had to crawl.

I rose because two ordinary people built solid ground under my feet.

So this is a shoutout to the boring heroes:

the parents who gave their kids…
stability instead of trauma,
love instead of fear,
home instead of chaos.

I’ve noticed something odd about LinkedIn. People wander through their feeds the way someone wanders through a messy house, muttering about the clutter as if it arrived overnight. 

I used to do the same: scroll, sigh, scroll again, until it dawned on me that none of it was happening to me. 

I was the one teaching the algorithm what to bring me each morning.

It felt a bit like complaining about the view while refusing to move the chair.
