My entire social feed is d a n g e r o u s, and yours likely is too. 

Not for the reason you might think though. 

(I'm going to bare my soul for this explanation so don't laugh at me) 

When I open my tiktok, I get: 

😬 Do you have greasy hair too? try hair oiling! scalp scrubbing! this new l'oreal  range! try applying salicylic acid*! 
😬 Struggling to generate inbound leads? CONTENT IS KING. Wait, no it's all about SEO! You should be posting 15 times a day. Hold on, you're posting more than once a week? Pfffft. Clearly a millennial. Gen Z just have this built in. 
😬 You're AGING. Look at me I’m 29 - no wrinkles! Have you tried this new botox trend? Wait did you know that botox is THE most toxic thing? Why don’t you try these forehead sticker thingys instead. 

Then I switch to Linkedin. The land of professionalism. 

Gonna be better, right? 

Right???

🙃 Building a business online isn’t easy! In fact you’ve only just scratched the surface! Barely done anything aint ya? Can’t you see that? 
🙃 Look at your rubbish little annual revenue number! Here’s how you could be making $231464628812 like the rest of us! Catch up! 
🙃 Here’s how I can do all the work that you do for just $300 a month. Oh and also, you should INVEST in your marketing. If not you’re not putting in thousands and thousands you’re going to fail!!!

I'm constantly being pulled in different directions - what do I improve, what should I strive for, how do I reach my next goal, what even is my next goal?

Why aren’t I bothered about most of these? I should be more bothered? God, do I just not care enough??? How do I care more???

😴 See…? Dangerous. 

And you know what….. it's my fault. 

It’s yours too. 

I let myself get lost in the voices, from time to time. I stop filtering what enters my mind. I watch all those videos. I read the posts. I let the algorithm repeat my insecurities back to me. 

Is it the platforms’ fault? They always get all the smack talk. Or the content creators making it? Sure, partially. Can it be entirely? Course not. 

Do you think it shows me greasy hair tips for no reason? No, I’ve been concerned about my can’t-last-even-24-hours-without-needing-another-wash hair for as long as I can remember. 

I create my own echo chamber, every day, for my deepest, most private, most hurtful insecurities. 

Here’s your reminder to consciously create your online spaces every day (and focus a little more on the beauty in front of you instead) - you control it, not the other way around 🫶🏼

PS. I tried the acid (and countless other things here) - made my hair even worse! Don’t do it!

I JUST WANT TO GO VIRAL ON TIKTOK says the person just about to screw up their future socials. 

Did you know virality can realllllllly muck with your engagement? 

Of course, there can be a lot of pros that come with going viral. Perhaps: 

🚀 Influx of followers 
📈 Boost in sales 
👀 Millions of views

BUT what I don’t see people talk about enough, is the damage that can do across most platforms - but especially TikTok. Stay with me… 

When you first post on TikTok, the video is pushed out to your “testing audience”. This is an amalgamation of people, but usually largely people who follow the account or have engaged with your content before. 

If it feeds out to people beyond your core audience, which is pretty damn likely if the content viral, this might cause you some issues in future. 

👊 Let’s say you go viral for a funny little trending meme - but you want to be known for your recipe content. Quite likely your new testing audience wont like your content going forwards. 
👊 Let’s say you go viral in other countries, but then post about your deals in the UK. Gonna be hard to get them to engage when they’re looking from overseas, immediately thinking it’s not relevant to them. 
👊 Let’s say you go viral with one specific content style. But nobody cares about the other styles you use. 

Your testing audience’s response really does decide just how much you feed out with future posts. 

So if they don’t like it (ie. it wasn’t what they were originally interested in, it’s not in the right country, it’s not relevant to them) and might continue not to like it… you’re gonna have a real hard time pushing out organically in future. 

Sincerely, a social gal who’s team has been working for months trying to get an organic-only brand account to feed out in the UK when they already went viral in the US before we took it on 😬🔫

Why is Tonks ramen considered the best in London?

In my younger years, I’m ashamed to say I didn’t really “like women” - or that’s what I would say, anyway. 

I used to eye roll at our softness, at our sensitivity, at our ability to discuss emotions with depth. 

I wanted to align with the more "masculine" energy. I wanted to be blunt, to be straight shooting, to be direct. I wanted to discuss solutions and not lose time on problems. I wanted to be ambitious, and clued up about money and politics. I thought to be all of those things, I had to acutely align with the masc. 

I looked at those being a “housewife” - for want of a better word - as a trapped soul, wasting their life looking after their children, surely having bigger dreams that would obviously be more fulfilling. 

In a world that often values the masculine energy over the feminine, I’d fallen for it. I rebelled against my instincts, trying over and over to push the feminine away. I often look at younger women now, and see many of them struggling with the same masculine vs feminine boxes I did. 

It took a whole load of truly incredible female role models who showed me the real depth of being a woman, no matter your day-to-day role - like Lyndsay, Kassie, Annica, 🔹🔸 Mallika, Nicole, Swati, Carly and so many more. I really began to notice the difference in how they'd talk to me, compared to the men in my life. The beauty in just how much we see, we notice, we empathise, we care. The strength that gives us in our careers, in our family lives, in our homes. 

Now, I've gotta say I honestly believe that, no matter my talents passion or skills, my strong ability to nurture is possibly my most valuable asset in any of my life’s roles and will continue to be. It’s one of my chosen core values in life. 

This past weekend I went away with 5 other women, for a chilled weekend on the coast. Stormy weather, wine, roaring fires and games, and a whole load of deep, deep, deep talking. 

Those deep chats, both on this past weekend and in the months prior, ground me more than anything else ❤️

Women - I'm sorry for slagging us off, I'm quite a fan of us lot 🫶🏼

Central Houston Nissan has taken many famous online meme-style clips and used them to swiftly transition into their team in their dealership. 

This is a repeated style again and again, that’s got them 30M+ views recently. 

5.3M likes on the account! 

HOW BRILLIANT. 

And also presumably so so fun to create for their team! 

This success summarises why I BLOODY LOVE TIKTOK. 

You don’t need massive production. It doesn’t need to be overly high quality. It doesn’t need to be massive concepts. 

It just needs to be one of two things: 

🚀 deeply entertaining 

OR 

🚀 impressively educating

And you just can’t sell directly, without either previous point in play. 

Thats it. 

There’s a niche for everyone. 

There’s space for your success.

Can I show you one of my favourite TikTok accounts? 

Most days @thedailyvictorian uploads a video, talking to camera, filmed in the same spot. 

She teachings learnings, she talks about the solar system's movements, she talks about your life, she teaches you things, sharing poetry, all whilst on her sun-soaked yoga mat. 

It's almost always in the same spot, surrounded by big leafy green plants, with her home in the background. She seems to invite you into her home, whilst sharing all of her heartfelt stories and growth. 

Her voice, her words, her movement brings me such a sense of peace. I always watch the full video, end to end. 

Every single time I see that yoga mat I stop scrolling. 

🚀 Learning? Repeat the same physical space all the time, or the same clothing, face, kitchen pot, wrapping. Make your account recognisable.

I spent the weekend diving into my number one hobby: taylor swift.

My screen time is THROUGH THE ROOF as I've completely sank into swifttok, diving into each and every single theory and piecing it all together.   

On Saturday night, I went totally alone to an album listening party here in Cape Town. Best night ever.

Sometimes life isn't about work.
