Walked into a restaurant the other day and saw this parade of delivery machines lined up across the counter.

It looked less like a restaurant and more like a control room at NASA. 🚀

Each machine beeping, flashing, spitting out receipts — and the staff trying to juggle it all without losing their minds.

I laughed and said, “That’s a lot of machines.”

The owner just shrugged and told me he had a few more under the counter.

And honestly… it felt very familiar.

Because isn’t this what happens in business too?

One tool for eInvoicing in one country.
A different one for VAT somewhere else.
Another local solution for SAF-T reporting.
All with different vendors. 

The list goes on.....

Before long, your “tech stack” is just a pile of mismatched gadgets cluttering the counter. It works. Kind of. But it’s noisy, clunky, and exhausting to manage.

And that’s the thing — running tax technology like this is basically the same as running a restaurant with a dozen delivery machines (plus a few more hidden under the counter). 

At some point, you’ve got to ask: is this really sustainable?

The RFP Carousel 🎪

Summer is over. The inbox is full. And here we are again: the RFP love story : 

Some classics from the season so far:

“We need this proposal in three days… but the project runs for three years.”

“Just give us a ballpark number — we’ll figure out the scope later.”

“Can you deliver a complete architecture… without talking to our IT team?”

“Ownership? Oh, that’ll be decided after you start.”

“Don’t worry, requirements are 80% final.” 

“We don’t want to waste your time, just give us a detailed solution design, budget, and delivery plan for free.”

✅️ and my personal favorite: “How much time will you really need from us on this project?”

Meanwhile: unclear requirements, shifting deadlines, last-minute changes, no architecture, and no one truly accountable.

It’s funny until you realize how much value, trust, and collaboration gets lost in this process.

So here’s my post-summer wish: let’s turn RFPs from a box-ticking exercise into an honest conversation.

Until then… pass the popcorn. 🍿

🚨 The EU Data Act just changed the rules for SAP customers.

45,000 companies in Europe are still running ECC6. 

Yes you read that right, 45000 of the largest companies in Europe 🇪🇺

For years, they survived audits by:
✔️ Using ECC6 templates that were “good enough”
✔️ Stitching compliance after the fact with Z-code & middleware

But those days are over. Regulators (FDA, TÜV, EU Data Act) now demand:
➡️ Real-time, system-native, auditable evidence
➡️ JSON logs and patchwork integrations won’t pass anymore.

Even #SAP is adapting – investing €20B in European sovereign cloud, proving #compliance (not cost) is now the driver.

Here’s the trap ⚠️:
This doesn’t mean panic-signing a 30-month S/4HANA program because vendors push it. 

That’s the SI playbook.

👉 The smarter move is building a SAP-compliant runway beyond 2027:
1️⃣ Avoid 3rd-party support – legal & compliance risks under EU Data Act
2️⃣ Stay audit-ready – regulators accept only real-time, system-native evidence
3️⃣ Use #BTP selectively – especially where regulators demand SAP-native control: tax reporting (e-invoicing, SAF-T, VAT/GST), product traceability, and audit dashboards
4️⃣ Keep leverage – control your S/4HANA timing instead of letting vendors dictate it

💡 Clean core is optional.
💡 Clean architecture isn’t.

For CFOs, CIOs, and Heads of Tax: the question isn’t if your ECC6 patchwork will fail — it’s when.

45,000 ECC6 clients in Europe’s delay zones just got called out by the EU Data Act.
For years, Europe’s “delay zones” - the Blue Banana, the Green Banana, the Golden Crescent - have bought time.

They’re not “legacy holdouts." They’re billion-euro supply chains who:
1. Built ECC6 templates that passed audits well enough.
2. Layered Z-code and middleware to stitch compliance after the fact.

But regulators changed the rules.

Last week, an EMS CIO said it plainly:
"In front of the FDA or TÜV, a JSON log isn’t compliance. It’s an audit failure waiting to happen."

And now even SAP is moving. 
They just put €20B into European sovereign cloud, proof that compliance, not cost, is driving the future.

But here’s the trap:
This doesn’t mean panic-signing a 30-month S/4HANA program. That’s the SI playbook.

The smarter move is creating a SAP-compliant runway beyond 2027:
1. Avoid the trap of 3rd-party support - legal and compliance suicide under the EU Data Act.
2. Stay audit-ready - real-time, system-native evidence regulators will accept.
3. Use BTP selectively - only for compliance-critical processes (traceability, OEM portals, audit dashboards).
4. Keep leverage - control the timing of your S/4HANA move, instead of letting vendors dictate it

Clean core is optional.
Clean architecture isn’t.

The @OECD is bending over backwards to ease U.S. concerns on the global minimum tax (Pillar Two) — even proposing a “side-by-side” system that would effectively carve out U.S. multinationals on the grounds that they’re already “robustly taxed” under GILTI and CAMT.

But here’s the big question: where does that leave Pillar Two?

If the U.S. gets special treatment, do we still have a truly global minimum tax, or are we just building parallel systems? 

The whole point of Pillar Two was to create consistency and avoid a race to the bottom. Yet now, we’re inching toward a framework that recognizes exceptions — arguably undermining the deal’s credibility or not ? 

Yes, the U.S. has its own minimum tax regime, but is that enough to keep the playing field level internationally? Or does this “equivalency” approach risk watering down the very enforcement tools meant to make the deal work?

The OECD’s proposals are open for comments until September 5. 

But the bigger debate is whether this compromise strengthens or weakens the global effort.

The OECD has proposed a range of tweaks to the global minimum tax agreement in a bid to quell US concerns about how the regime affects American companies. 

The 30-page draft proposal attempts to follow through on a Group of Seven understanding that would ensure US companies aren’t subject to key enforcement measures of the minimum tax, also known as Pillar Two of the OECD-led tax deal that’s in force across the EU, the UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, and other countries, according to documents seen by Bloomberg Tax.

☀️ Back from the European summer break… and straight into my first mistake. 😳

This week we restarted our marketing campaigns in earnest. The inbox was heating up, coffee was flowing, and that “back to business” feeling was real.

And then came my stumble.

I sent a message I thought was spot-on.

 ❌ It wasn’t.

 I’d made assumptions without checking, and the reply I got back was blunt — even sarcastic.

Did it sting? Of course. But this is what happens when you take risks and put yourself out there.

🙋‍♂️ If you happened to get a message from me recently that felt off or irrelevant — my apologies. Never the intention, and thank you for your patience.

Here’s the truth:
Sometimes you win — the timing, the message, the person all align.
Sometimes you lose — you miss the mark, and it backfires.

But both outcomes matter. Wins create momentum. Losses create lessons. And both are essential if you want to grow.

Yes, I got it wrong, apologised, corrected my notes, and moved on. That’s the rhythm of business: try, fail, learn. Rinse and repeat ! 

Fresh energy, fresh plans, and yes… fresh mistakes. That’s how you know you’re moving.

I’ll leave you with this timeless bit of sports wisdom from Wayne Gretzky:
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

Here’s to daring, stumbling, and still taking the shot.
