They’re not wrong for sharing it.
 
They’re just passing down the same playbook many of us were given.

But here’s the part most of us were never told:
That playbook ignores what’s happening inside a buyer’s brain.

And think about this for a second…

When someone suddenly starts asking us a series of probing questions…
 
How does it make us feel?
More open — or more guarded?

Exactly.
Our buyers feel the same.

When we probe for pain, we activate threat circuits — the amygdala, ACC, and insula.
The Croc Brain hears:

They’re trying to use what hurts me to sell me something.

That doesn’t build trust.
It flips on the B.S. filter.

Once that filter lights up, the nervous system shifts into protection.
 
Our limbic system tightens.
Our prefrontal cortex — where belief and “yes” live — never fully comes online.

So instead of curiosity, we create distance.

Here’s the better way — for us and for them.

Don’t poke the wound.
Reduce the threat.
Then elevate their status.

When people feel their status is protected or expanding, serotonin rises — giving them the confidence to imagine the outcome.

Then we guide with:

Safety → Shared Story → Future Possibility

Safety lowers the Croc Brain filter.

Shared story triggers a limbic emotional buying response.
 
Future possibility releases dopamine —anticipation.

That’s how we create a buying mood… and the beginnings of belief.

And when we create belief, we create conversion.

Belief isn’t built by pressure.
 
It’s built through emotional stories where people see themselves — and feel the promise of the same outcome.

Tomorrow morning, when we grab our coffee, let’s ask ourselves:

“Are we doing what we were taught…or what the brain actually trusts?”

Have you ever had one sentence — from someone you don’t even know — suddenly expose what might be missing in our marketing?
 
That happened to me yesterday.
 
And it came from Scott Oldford.

We may not all know Scott, but a lot of us have seen his work. I’ve been on his email list for years. 

Some emails are clever. Some are insightful. Some make us pause.

But there’s one question we should always ask:
Do they build belief?

Yesterday he sent me another email — his “Lane Theory” to promote his book Resonance for $7.

It was smart.
It was intentional.
 
And the neuroscience behind it is worth noting.

Where it works:
He activates identity (dopamine), opens curiosity loops, and elevates status by positioning “resonance” as a higher level of mastery.

Where it struggles:
The Croc Brain resists abstraction. “Sidewalk, Slow Lane, Fast Lane, frequencies, destiny” — if we can’t picture it, we can’t trust it. Big promises and soft future pacing also wake up our skepticism.

But here’s the line that hit me most.
 
In the video tied to this post, Scott says:

“The universe responds to what we prefer.”

But for those of us who study brain science, we know the truth:

The universe responds to what we believe.
And that’s the real shift we all need.

It’s not about sending more emails.
It’s not about clever funnels.
It’s about creating belief in us and our offering.

Did you know MIT researchers analyzed 126,000 Twitter news cascades—4.5 million tweets from about 3 million people—and found that false stories spread six times faster and reached more people than the truth?

And a Duke fMRI study revealed something even more unsettling:
 
When people saw repeated statements—true or not—their perirhinal cortex lit up and they rated those statements as more true.

Repetition literally feels like truth to the brain.
 
Which means if you keep telling the same lie over and over, people eventually start believing it.

But here’s the part we rarely question:
 
What if the things we believe are “real,” “true,” or “justified” are simply the things we’ve seen the most?
 
What if our convictions are just repetition wearing a disguise?

Combine that with algorithmic feeds engineered to amplify emotion and outrage, and the danger becomes obvious:

Algorithms aren’t just curating content.
 
They’re shaping beliefs, bending reality, and constructing identity—before we notice.

So how do we protect ourselves?
 
By training the brain to interrupt the loop.

Example 1: The 3-Second Pause
Before reacting, ask: “Do I know this is true—or have I just seen it a lot?”

Example 2: Intentional Input Curation
Follow diverse thinkers and viewpoints. 

Break the repetition.
Expand reality.
