I’ll start with (one of) thee emails from Hailley Griffis

The most unhinged thing I’ve ever done to get ahead? Working at the Nigerian Bottling Company and writing my final year thesis at the same time.

I got the internship after giving a speech at my university’s career fair. They called me during the school break, and I started the next week. From then on, every Wednesday and Friday, I made the 8-hour commute, dodged (and entered) the rainy season traffic, and missed out on pre-graduation activities with my friends

No one asked me to. I chose it.

Even when I realized I wasn’t going to graduate with the best grades (C in that thesis 🙈), I kept going.

What I got in return was worth far more: resilience. The kind I leaned on later in 2020 when I was applying to remote jobs nonstop and needed every ounce of persistence I could muster.

That internship wasn’t glamorous, but it taught me tenacity in a way nothing else could.
