Throughout my life, I always found that I would remember pictures better than words alone. After nearly 20 years on a winding path of experience, I decided that this valuable skill could be used to help others understand better, too. Now I spend my days bringing conversations to life and creating art for clients of all kinds. Whether I am drawing live for your event, creating a tailored illustration for your story or book, or just drawing a daily quote about hope, I'm visualizing everything.

I'm reflecting on Mark Twain's quote this morning and went digging through my old quotes because I think it's actually about the drawings today.

When I started drawing daily quotes, I made a silly pledge to myself I'd never reuse any but today is an exception.

Progress is gradual and it takes time
It is harder to notice if you're going too fast
You need to love yourself so you
don't just criticize but celebrate.

The differences in today's portrait versus the portraits from the last few years are subtle and significant.

I wasn't ready this morning.


My body was sore.

The cat was more awake than asleep the last two nights.

The pollen headache doesn't seem to end.

Could this be more skin cancer on my forehead?

... but after I sat down to draw my quote. 

... after settling in on my self care, I began to feel differently.

My body was sore from some amazing workouts this weekend: annual Murph training, 5 miles of hiking with my son, and finding a new 30 inch box jump to try.

I was tired from staying up late talking to my best friend and wife.

The pollen will never ever stop me from going outside.

I've beaten skin cancer twice and I can do it again.

Self care is no joke.

You can shift your entire being in minutes.

Don't let this sleepy fox in today's video fool you.

The fox is known for cleverness, slyless, and being a trickster. 

Monday tried to trick me into being in a bad mood and the fox and I said no.

All day everyday, just be yourself.


There were some dark years where I thought I was fooling everyone.

I had a go to work Wade and a at home Wade.

Instead of protecting myself from some of the difficulty at work, I was just causing double the suffering.

Being authentic and being my true self changed my entire life. 

It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

The next layer of goodness that comes from being authentic is that you notice other people who are being authentic too. 

The moment when authentic people are together is where beautiful things happen. 

This could be the part of the post where I point the finger at people who are not being authentic. 

So let's just be authentic a little louder and inspire other people to join in.

Today's quote is a deep one. 


I'm reading "Strength to Strength" by Arthur Brooks, the happiness professor at Harvard 

In chapter 5, he asks you to ponder your own death. 

In the east this is common and part of regular meditation. 

In the West, this is pretty upsetting for a lot of people to consider because we get scared by our own mortality and believe we'll last forever. 

His recommendation in pondering your own death is to actually think about the people you enjoy the most and the experiences you'd like to have with them most often. 

It's also to accept your decline and how you can embrace those things sooner and get back to enjoying your life.
