I'm Andrea, and here’s my story in a nutshell:

🌍 Originally from Italy, I've lived in 7 countries and learned 5 foreign languages during my early 20s! 

🚀 I worked at Meta in Sales for the EMEA markets, consulting with 500+ businesses and entrepreneurs on growth marketing and branding. 🚀

🏗️ In 2020, I founded and grew Scaling Davids, a Creative Marketing Agency for DTC Brands, to 7 figures. 

💡 Currently, I'm building and growing Voxen, a personal branding studio that enables Agency teams and executives/founders to grow their personal brand and drive influence at scale. 📈

There has never been a topic dividing the masses such as cold outreach. Still, for our agency, it's working wonders. But the crowd is divided into two:

- The ones who believe it's a tricky, spammy, and unprofessional way to get attention.
- The ones that preach it as the ultimate way to skyrocket any brand's growth.

The thing is, both are right and both are wrong at the same time.

1. YOU CALL IT OUTBOUND, I CALL IT SPAM. 

When we do cold outbound, we start every interaction with the idea that we're not asking for the prospect's attention, but that we are doing them a favor by helping them with something they're ignoring. 

This is because we reach out based on intent, AND high relevance (yes, each email is personalized)

Spray and pray (AKA sending 300K emails per month without the above principles) can be cheap, but will mostly burn your ICP pool, as well as your reputation.

2. IF YOU DO IT WELL, IT'S EXPENSIVE. 

Not cheap, as many preach. 

Currently, we spend between $60-$100K/year on our outbound sales infrastructure, including:

- Contact scraping and list cleaning.
- Content creators for personalization and relevancy.
- BDR team for pipeline management and a "solution-selling approach."
- Content marketing and branding for our exec/BDR team. 

We send 1/10th of the volumes that others send with 1/5th of the budget. But guess the outcome?

3. EMAIL IS JUST A TOUCHPOINT. 

Even if your prospects get hooked by your initial email, if you don't build an "authority infrastructure," you'll lose most of them. What does a prospect do as soon as they receive a cold email?

- Think - "Oh, that's interesting, let's check it out."
- Click on the Website link (or copy/paste the sender's domain) --> check the website.
- Search on Google/LinkedIn for the sender's name --> Find and check the LinkedIn profile.

If your website and/or LinkedIn are not authority-building places, you're at risk.

4. ICP, ICP, ICP. 

Yes, that's not news. Still, many are completely failing at this point. 
Talking to one specific ideal client, selling a specific solution to a specific pressing problem, is the key to being listened to in a crowded noisy place (such as an email inbox, or a LinkedIn news feed).

Agencies are drowning in a sea of "sameness"

Yet, there's a stupid-simple principle that 90% can apply to stand out.

Guess what? You have a unique advantage that you might not be leveraging.

I'm talking about that one sub-service you offer that no one else does.

You know the one.

It's that little extra you do for your clients that they absolutely love. 

That thing that your team is already thinking about, but you're not getting paid properly for.

For example, you're a paid ads agency, but you're also doing ad creative development for your clients. Or you're a dev agency helping clients optimize their membership programs.

These are your goldmines.

Here's what you can do:

1. Identify that valuable sub-service.
2. Build a service line around it with a KPI guarantee.
3. Then, talk about that sub-service all day, every day on the internet.

Suddenly, you're not just another agency.

You're the #1 UGC Creation agency. Or the #1 memberships agency. Or the #1 Product Page Development agency.

Instead of competing with every other agency, you will start conversations around a different area of the business. 

And once they became a customer, I could always audit other areas of their business and upsell.

MY AGENCY IS NOT LIKE YOURS 🛑 

... that's why you shouldn't listen to me.

Ok, that's a bit of a bait, but hear me out. 

I've been in the agency world for years now, and I see a significant issue with the "one size fits all" advice given by people coaching "agencies" as a whole.

Here's a breakdown of the situation:

If today you are running a service-based business, chances are that what you are doing today is about:

1. Finding new clients.
OR/AND
2. Keeping clients in

Focusing on the first...

There are mainly two types of agencies based on their approach.

And they're dramatically different.

🤝  The "Connected" Agency

- Broad positioning with a wide scope of services, offering a bit of everything.
- Multiple service offers.
- Founders/executives are well-connected, driving new revenue primarily.
- Leads mainly come from referrals, events, or online listings (e.g., Clutch, SEO).
- Typically works well but isn't the fastest or most innovative.

🚫 Common Challenges:

- Delivery can be messy.
- Difficult to scale beyond a certain point due to delivery constraints.
- Slow innovation.


🚀 The "Startup" Agency

- Specific positioning, usually focusing vertically on a single service/ICP/Offer.
- Relies on acquisition channels like outbound, Upwork, and ads.
- Little to no emphasis on brand positioning or personal branding.
- Agile, quick to pivot, and fast at innovating.
- Takes a direct response approach.

🚫 Common Challenges:

- Difficulty in making prospects see their Unique Value Proposition.
- Often requires pivots to align with customer needs in real time.
- Acquiring clients is challenging due to low authority.

❓ Common Misconceptions:

It's often believed that "startup" agencies offer better service levels than "connected" ones, yet they struggle more with growth.

Once "startup" agencies achieve good positioning and brand recognition and find the right Product-Market Fit for their services, they tend to grow much faster than "connected" agencies.

Therefore, advice that works for one type of agency might not be suitable for the other.

GPT mobile app + Vocal notes 😍 

I admit it, I am an avid user of vocal messages (sorry friends 😥 )

Over the years I've tried countless "productivity hacks", and ultimately, most of it is fluffy or difficult to stick to. 

This is the real deal when it comes to speed up things I find boring, such as:

- Writing emails
- Writing briefs
- Daily work-related writing in general
 
The GPT transcribes my messy vocal notes into polished emails, without having this "AI-ish" tone that everyone hates :D

You should not trust an agency that charges little. 

On the other hand, serious clients are the ones who are okay with whatever pricing is presented.

(Or at least, pricing is not the major objection.) 

It happened to me several times. 

Prospects asking for "discounts", "make a lower price", "do them a favor", etc. 

There is a huge issue with these requests (which scream "red flag").

They don't understand that the higher the margin the agency has, the better service we're able to provide. 

Agencies are businesses therefore they need to generate profits.
 
Without a good margin, it's simply impossible to 

- Hire great performers
- Utilize good technology
- Invest in R&D. 

If you hire an agency that, for example, does design or growth and it charges you $200-$500 for a project, be sure that they are either :

- Streamlining every single step of the process, therefore not going to be a personalized one
- Simply adding a charge on top of software that automates the work
- They're not going to be profitable, therefore there will be a certain point when the relationship will crack. 

Premium fees are the price to pay to get professional help, period.
