That weird calm before the storm.

The launch of Gemini 3 is a powerful reminder that:

1️⃣ 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀
OpenAI broke the frontier, but Google is showing (again) how fast a heavyweight can move when the stakes are existential. I am impressed by the tenacity of Google on this one. Accepted first defeit but doubled down and overdelivered. 

2️⃣ 𝗙𝗶𝘅𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁-𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗢𝗔𝗧.
Gemini 3 was trained entirely on Google’s TPUs. Not Nvidia chips. Which means they can now ship improvements in months not years helping them build long term defensibility. Also Google is lending their TPUs to Anthropic and Midjourney,which can be putting at risk NVIDIA supply chain ownership.

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱: Layoffs as a Service™. Always-on. Fully distributed. No notice period. No rules, no limits.

The 9-9-6 culture is surging back and it is creating a seismic shift no one seems to be talking about. Here are my 5 hot takes from today's exec discussion 🔥

1️⃣ 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟵𝟵𝟲 𝘁𝗼 𝟬𝟬𝟳: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗻
Silicon Valley is re-normalizing 70-hour weeks, and China is responding with 007 (midnight to midnight, 7 days a week, with rotational workforces). If extreme availability becomes the baseline, how are caregivers supposed to compete for leadership seats? This isn’t a hustle trend; it’s a roadmap for exclusion. And with less diversity, what happens to the products being built?

2️⃣  𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆,𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁
While there is 40-60% productivity boost for the first 6 months, the World Health Organization's research is clear: it's not sustainable. It carries a 17% higher risk of heart disease and a 35% higher chance of stroke. The 996 culture doesn't doesn't build resilience: it builds burnout. And at scale it becomes a new public-health crisis.

3️⃣ 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝟱𝟱𝗵
Stanford University research is clear: after 50 hours, output crashes. A “70-hour” week produces ~55 hours of real work. Everything beyond that is performative exhaustion, not impact. Unless we can upgrade human biology, why are we trying to operate beyond human limits?

4️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴
If parents work 70+ hours, kids are raised by others or by screens. Weekends disappear. Communities hollow out. What are the long-term effects on the next generation? Who fuels weekend economies if weekends become workdays What happens when families have no “off hours”? We may be trading short-term throughput for a long-term societal deficit.

5️⃣ 𝗔𝗜'𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲
Every productivity leap in history has raised expectations, not lowered them.
AI was meant to give people time back. Instead, the race to build AI is consuming more time than ever. The tools designed to free us are, ironically, tightening the chains. AI will not return time unless incentives change, not just software.

The world is watching, and the choices we make today will determine whether AI enables a diverse, sustainable society or drives us toward a future where humans are expected to function like the AI agents we’re building.

Just wrapped a panel on "Innovating in the AI era" with the Head of Startups at Microsoft, an Engineering leader from Airbnb and the Head of Sales at Lambda (ex Google). Here are the top take aways:

1️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝗽
AI isn’t creating new bad habits. It’s exposing the ones people already had. AI is a mirror. It amplifies discipline and great thinking but also exposes sloppiness faster.

2️⃣ 𝗔𝗜 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗳 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁
Shaloo Garg shared how Microsoft cut the effort required for performance evaluations by half using AI. But J. Joaquín Paz Solís made a key point:
 this acceleration works best inside companies like Microsoft and Google because they have rich internal data, unified systems, and mature workflows.
In smaller startups with fragmented tools, plug-and-play AI still struggles without context. Context is the real multiplier.

3️⃣ 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲
You can’t just give people AI and expect innovation.We discussed: Google’s 20% time for learning and experimentation, Microsoft’s performance incentives that make failure an expected part of progress, Airbnb’s culture of forgiveness when engineers break things exploring new ideas. Innovation requires an non hostile environment, not a feature.

4️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸
This isn’t just about “having a growth mindset.” It’s about building continuous-learning muscles inside teams. Some rituals we shared: Weekly show-and-tell sessions to demo AI learnings, Micro-prototyping instead of long planning cycles, Rapid “post-learns” instead of heavy post-mortems.

5️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗮𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽
People leaders face a unique challenge: we must upskill ourselves while upskilling our teams while shipping innovation in an environment that changes weekly. We discussed how we are closing this gap: building AI playbooks rather than slideware, hiring for adaptability, not credentials, evaluating performance differently, creating learning loops that compound, staying current without burning out.

The real time sink no one talks about?

 The paperwork.

-Contracts. 
-Compliance docs. 
-Onboarding forms that ask for your blood type and mother's maiden name.

It's the kind of work that hijacks your weekends and makes you wonder if you accidentally enrolled in law school instead of starting a business.

And yet, this stuff isn’t optional.

Skip it, and the risk can crush your business before it scales.

The worst part? Most tools I tried made it harder:

❌ Too confusing for something that should be simple.

Everyone's worried AI will take their job but that’s not the real threat.

AI isn’t killing jobs. 

According to the World Economic Forum there will be 170M new roles created by 2030, even with 92M lost - that is +22% uptick

But here's what most people miss.

Those roles might stay empty. Not because AI will replace them but because we don't have people ready to fill them.

I see everyone sprinting to build prototypes, bolt AI into everything, or memorize the newest prompt hacks.

But that's not what these new AI roles require.

These are the 6 meta-skills that will:

1️⃣ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆

And the most important one? Judgement.

What should be automated? What shouldn't? What accelerates a business? What just drains the budget?

This is the root cause of today’s “AI slop” and why Cursor ships 10× output with zero PMs, while others ship AI agents that cost more to operate than a full-time analyst.

The 2030 job market won't split into "replaced by AI" and "safe from AI."

It'll split into three groups:

- People who barely use or apply AI
- People who do have the technical skills/tools but not the skills above
- People who will use AI as a thought partner and force multiplier

Only group #3 will win.

Because the future doesn’t belong to people who “learn AI.”

It belongs to people who can identify which problems are worth solving and which ones AI will only make worse.
