After holiday depression. 

Monday is a duty day . الاثنين دوام

Thousands are facing this natural depressing feeling while gearing up to be back to work after a long holiday.

Cheer up !

1- The job which you are not interested to join back on Monday can be a dream for millions of jobless people, count your blessings for having a stable income and everything else has a solution. 

2- If you are jobless then Monday is one day closer to your excitement of exploring again more opportunities after a slow month and a short business break. 

3- Your pending business proposal or contract will get signed when the business wheel spins again next week, just look forward to it. 

4- If you got interviewed for a job before Eid, then hopefully your anticipated employment offer will come after pending the required signatures if you were successful. 

Long holidays are good to refresh, but the excitement of going back to work is your best fuel for productivity and professional growth.

Same period in 2003, I Landed in Dubai for the first time ever. 

Even before Burj Khalifa was built. 

I had big dreams and ambitions to build my future.

I came on a 7000 dhs salary and I was very happy with it as a single bachelor who came to the land of opportunities to build a promising future. 

Some blast from the past memories which many of my generation can relate to: 

1- We used to work 2 shifts since the standard working hours across all city by then were based on 2 shifts with a long break between both.

2- My first car was a Ford focus and in my humble eyes it was better than the fanciest Ferrari, the feeling of owning your first car and paying from your sweat is priceless. 

3- My favorite after work place was the Hard Rock Cafe which was there on Sheikh Zayed Road before the modern construction of Dubai Media City area. 

4- Me and my colleagues by then used to stay in the office till late night and we never felt the stress of it, it was hard but smart work to build our future.

5- Weekends were unique during those old days, barbecuing with friends at Dubai's green parks was a blast during winter times. 

6- During my first month in town, any 5 minutes trip used to take me an hour since I wasn't used to highways and exits and every exit you miss takes you to another planet before you turn back.

7- Flying back to home countries during certain weekends on low cost airlines at that time was very exciting, I remember always taking the 150$ trip of Yuguzlav airlines on Thursday nights by then since I couldn't afford the premium airlines.

8- After completing 6 months in Dubai, it started to feel as home and everytime I travel I used to feel homesick.

Today I complete 21 years in the UAE and I can't be happier of being given the chance by a great nation to become part of it and I hope I can keep contributing and paying back to this generous country in specific and this region in general till the last day of my life. 

Don’t accept verbal promises. 

Always make it in writing. 

One of hundreds of Dont’s I always advise people to avoid. 

Let’s say you are a job candidate who had a casual interview meeting with a CEO on a coffee, you agreed on the package and he or she tells you this is the offer and after 6 months we will give you a raise to meet your expectations. 

You get the offer from HR with all benefits and the promise is not there because this is how it happens usually. 

After six months, the verbal promise evaporates usually for one of the below reasons:

1- The CEO who promised you leaves the company. 

2- You will be told that your salary adjustment is on hold due to no budgets or cost cutting. 

3- A new leader takes over and doesn’t buy verbal promises that cannot be proven. 

4- A possibility of having this promise as a fake hook to make you accept the offer but it wasn’t the plan. 

5- An excuse that your amended package will be higher than others who are at your same scale so it cannot be done anymore. 

A verbal promise is an ethical contract based on trust but not everybody respects it or understands the consequences of breaking that promise on their own reputation and personal credibility. 

Always insist to put everything in writing even if there is a possibility of breaking it, it will always give you a better position to get your rights in a professional manner.

Sami is only 24 years old. 

He is a top notch basketball player as a hobbiest. 

He left Canada and came to Saudi Arabia to build the next big thing in the region with his Saudi partner. 

Sami Al Uariachi was introduced to me through Dimitrios Michail Perdikoulis on WhatsApp as a potential partner to help him in the logistics of his newly launched business in Saudi Arabia. 

We spoke 10 percent logistics and 90 percent the scale and big potential of his product. 

I was expecting to see another bottled water business with low expectations from the meeting and I was absolutely mistaken.

The moment I met Sami and he took out those 2 bottles with a reputable brand on them and got that premium feeling of the non plastic recycled and metallic light material, I got hooked.

Kudos to Tamara for being one of their first reputable advertising customers and believing in the team and product, this is an incredible endorsement and an indication on where Sami and his team will reach with this amazing business.

I will need another full article to explain the plenty potential revenue streams from advertising and others that can be generated from this business and the innovative ideas that can suit every single industry if they partner with them.

Airlines, sports clubs, big brands, governments, hotels, restaurants, events, and much much more. 

Selling this innovative product to businesses will be very exciting.

Can spoil the whole organization. 

Even if they are performing, they cause harm ten times more than the numbers they get. 

You don’t need them even if they are performing.

I don't know him personally, I only had the chance to meet Nabil Habayeb only once during an event in the past but his name was already ringing a lot of bells in his industry. 

When I used to hear his name I immediately think GE rather than thinking of Nabil when I hear GE. 

In my opinion, retirement is never the end, it is the beginning of celebrating a life time impact and legacies which such successful executives leave behind them when they migrate to their next phase of life.

Retiring after 41 years … what did I learn? It’s all about the people.

It was a bit windy. 

But the real chills came from the warm Iftar event room which was packed with a group of elite guests.  

My friend Nader Al Nashash and his esteemed partner Khalid Talal never cease to impress us every year with the launch of their new ventures in the region. 

They are real entrepreneurs and top business minded gentlemen. 

It all started with EK Cargo the very niche and luxury focused logistics monster, to the fantastic MK Illumination Global which decorates our world like no one else and today we saw the launch of the innovative Space Age under the leadership of Jafnan ALDossary and last but not least the launch of Olives Marketplace which is a super platform for small and medium businesses that can accelerate their growth through incredible AI video solutions and much more through a cutting edge AI kitchen in china. 

I can’t also forget Luxury Support Travel which is an international agency for personalized travel. 

A Bouquet of unique businesses that will keep positioning our region as a pioneer region in all modern industries. 

Very proud of what I saw today and I’m sure next year we will see another bundle of innovative companies being introduced by a great visionary team.  

And I was very happy to meet for the first time my long term LinkedIn supporter and friend Boris Fugger who approached me by asking : Are you the LinkedIn guy? Since he was a follower from day one and we finally met in person during the mega event and will surely stay in touch.

This is my personal formula.

Because no matter of the outcome, putting an effort and trying is enough to make us liable to pay them back if they ever need us for any help as well. 



It’s On !!!

The “ After Eid Inshâ’Allah “ mode for most people. 

Now since we are in the last ten days of Ramadan and I hope you have blessed last days of this holy month, most companies will be very busy and during this period appointments are hardly secured and contracts are hardly read or signed. 

From a business perspective, what to do during this period to stay productive and avoid falling into the trap of procrastination. 

1- Utilize this period by planning for your after Eid approaches and build a list of your lowest hanging fruits and tasks that need to be executed before the summer vibes start. 

2- Create a follow up list on all the offers or appointments which were supposed to happen in Ramadan and already pushed till after Eid so that you can ignite all of those right after the Eid holiday. 

3- Set an Anti-Summer slowness personal aggressive plan for the coming 4 months to move fast in the market while many of your competitors will mostly be on summer vacations soon since companies do not close and you will always find people to meet and do business with even if key decision makers are on vacation, at least plant the seeds while your competitors are away for a break in case you didn’t take yours. 

Prepare yourself to come back fresh and productive, both mentally and physically and look forward to positive outcomes for the remaining part of the year.

Those are my ten corporate values.

That will never change, whether I shave my beard or wear a suit, values are values. 

Our personal values can never change with time unless for the better. 

1- I don't sugarcoat whatsoever, because sugarcoating has a very bitter taste when the sugarcoated person shows you his or her real face after their taste buds lose the sweet taste of your words. 

2- I don't tolerate gossipers and backstabbers, because the person whom you allow to gossip for you is the same person who will gossip about you. 

3- I don't believe anything negative I hear about anyone unless I verify it myself.

4- I believe that compliance is not a policy, it is more of an embedded behavior in every decent professional who does it based on ethics rather than from fearing the policy. 

5- Trust is a universal currency, once you invest in it you will reap the returns without any extra efforts.

6- I accept working with people who's intentions are to use me and ride on my shoulders as long as we both benefit equally but I never accept working with people who want to abuse me.

7- I never see competitors as enemies, I strongly believe in either learning from them to keep getting better or becoming better than them so that they can learn from you towards elevating your industry. 

8- I never and will never consider hiring a good person without the bureaucratic hiring process a risk or a matter of gambling, their success factor depends on you as an employer more than it depends on them, people who want to perform will perform if you give them the tools and support. 

9- Soft skills always eat experience for breakfast and lunch as long as a critical technical experience is not required due to the critical nature of the industry.

10- Ego is our worst enemy ever, it is  only an illusion that elevates you to the highest skies and above the clouds while destroying any possible safety nets that are supposed to hold you on your way down while falling, and those broken safety nets are the people whom you lost as an egoistic person and were supposed to rescue you. 

Eid Mubarak to you all.

Few points to consider while celebrating :

1- Be kind to all those frontliners who are working hard and not able to take off days during your eid break to serve you and make your holiday a memorable one.

2- Enjoy Eid while thinking and praying for millions who are not able to celebrate this Eid.

3- Pump up your energy for after eid period to come back with fully energy to the work field, many people are depending on your positive actions and decisions that can improve their lives and make their bread and butter, let the business wheel spin back again with positive actions from day one after the holiday. 

4- Keep the blessed Ramadan spirit for the remaining months of the year, it is more about our pure and clean spirit of giving all over the year.

Yes this is correct, but the intention from this post is not to share my status or brag about it. 

It is about an idea that can really take networking on LinkedIn  to another levels. 

Imagine Linkedin adds a check-in status tab which allows users who check in at the same place during the same period to have the opportunity to meet their followers or connections in the same place after both being notified and only based on their privacy preferences. 

A separate tab below next to the other tabs which does not spam our main timelines, something exactly like foursquare but to be built-in within linkedin. 

I would really welcome notifications like : “Hey Hussein, John and Lea and Mohammed and Sunil and Mariam and Badr from your followers and connections already checked in at the same place, would you like to also notify them and maybe say hello in person?” 

Of course it can be optional and once you check in at a place Linkedin will notify you about who already from your followers and connections are there and definitely their approval and yours are needed to notify you both based on how you decide to control your privacy and who can see what and when. 

The purpose of this is not to attract people who want to show off with luxury check ins at first class lounges or presidential suits or VIP places which is something we are not here to judge or criticize, but this intended idea of Linkedin check-ins is to allow people who are connected on linkedin to continuously enjoy the coincidences of meeting each other at random places and build meaningful relationships that can lead to professional dealings and trusted partnerships through face to face interactions. 

Just an idea for an Add-on which I will definitely use as an active member of this platform if it ever exists in the future.

It is your name. 

Don’t underestimate the power of it if you build it brick by brick in a proper way. 

Those bricks are trust and credibility. 

Your name is a powerful combination of alphabet letters that can open the widest opportunities once you build it yourself. 

When your name gets mentioned infront of anyone, make it ring a bell rather than raising an alarm.

An Empowered HR can do all this for you. 

You are really lucky if you work in an organization that has an HR head who does all the below. 

1- Who speaks up courageously on your behalf with the management no matter what. 

2- Who works passionately on your training and professional development as personal KPI before being enforced on him or her as a numbers target KPI. 

3- Who cares about your mental health and has the patience and willingness to listen to you instead of hearing things about you and to fix your problems instead of using them against you. 

4- Who fights fiercely to never allow his or her training budgets to be the first thing to be cut during a cost control exercise because they believe that developing people is an investment and never a cost. 

5- Who guides you to perform in order to retain you rather than threatening you to perform in order to keep your job. 

6- Who acts as a guardian angel to your corporate culture and takes full ownership of making it always better. 

An HR role is one of the most important roles to keep all the ties tightened across all departments since they work with people and on people, and any business in any industry is all about the people. 

There are thousands of them and we all know many of them by names who do all the above on daily basis and they themselves will also be the luckiest if they had a supportive leadership team above them who  value them and appreciate the power given to them when they challenge them in every people related matter.

I paid for this from my pocket. 

A casual branded T-shirt when I was proudly working for UPS in 2019 along with many branded casual personal accessories. 

Even with the wear and tear condition, it even looks greater with it’s vintage style. 

By then we had an online store that allows staff to buy hundreds of branded wearables and accessories and this is a great idea to build your brand ambassadors outside the work place. 

Jackets, caps, shirts, office accessories, sports apparel and much more. 

5 years passed and I still wear it from time to time because for me it is a 90 billion USD brand which I was part of.  

I left UPS because of specific reasons which are not there anymore and I still respect the brand and the learnings I got and every time I see a UPS plane on runways I still get excited. 

I always tell people there is nothing called  divorcing a brand which you have worked for, you may divorce very few people whom you didn’t click with or suffered from but the brand will always maintain you as a brand ambassador because you were once part of it and it was part of you. 

A brand is much bigger than few people here and there, it is always about the majority of the great people behind it on a bigger scale. 

Today I still have tens of friends there and I still recommend them when any service which they can perfectly do pops up as a requirement for me or my clients. 

Professional Executives are the ones who never divorce brands which they once led, represented, and also learned a lot from.

Who said we will ever click anyways. 

Dani and I never knew each other before, but he was storing some bold words to put in my ears in case he ever meets me due to a specific wrong impression and perception. 

Apparently he heard about me by name only due to a funny but innocent story which can happen with anybody  everyday. 

We coincidentally met for the first time twice across 2 consecutive days last week in two different occasions, he said what he had to say, he realized I'm a good innocent person :), we laughed a lot about it, and we immediately clicked. 

My new friend Dani Oneisse the CEO of   Livingroom LR DXB. 

We spoke marketing and sales and the very thin line between those functions which our both companies are specialized in and we agreed that Sales and Marketing are two opposite sides of the same coin. 

Dani invited me to visit their beautiful offices and I always insist to physically visit the offices before any potential partnership talks to see the environment and ensure credibility of the business. 

I was super impressed with the creativity and the design of their offices which incubates around 45 in-house creative minds and i always believe that creativity starts from within first. 

Dani took me through plenty of fantastic and creative work they have done for some of the biggest clients in the region  within their speciality as a marketing, activation, digital marketing, and a very creative agency. 

Now they are also in the final stages of opening their offices in Riyadh and they are very excited about it. 

You will only explore the real synergies with new people once you get to know them in person and find those common brain sparks that can lead to bigger things together. 

Very impressed with what I saw and witnessed at the offices of Living Room Dubai and looking forward to see their Saudi offices and witness their creative marketing activities that will certainly impress their audience in the kingdom.

Heard them before, Said them a lot. 

Emotional intelligence does wonders.

Ideas, examples, stories come to my mind in bulk and all I need is a calm place, a cup of coffee, and a laptop to offload them all. 

Preparing for my practical session to be delivered to my fellow leaders in Armenia and Georgia. 

A very exciting topic about bridging the gap and balancing between the old and the new generation of leaders.

Keeping the basics of the old leadership methods is important but the necessity of adopting the modern leadership styles at work is even more critical and needed. 

The new generation of talents cannot be managed in the same way we used to manage and lead before. 

A very interesting topic for every business.
