Manage Visitor Center (90,000 visitors annually), Visitor Information Services for national and international clientele and general chamber services. Serve as liaison between businesses and governmental agencies. Facilitate policymaking and implement policy established by 13-member volunteer Board of Directors. Drive business to members by matching them to consumer needs. Promote new and existing businesses through comprehensive media management programs. Establish and work with all-volunteer committees in such areas as business development, women managers, legislation, etc.

Responsible for the overall running of the operation, with a focus on the news/editorial side. Managed the ad and production staffs. Responsible for meeting revenue and expense budgets.

I spent most of my career as a newspaper executive in the second-largest media group in the U.S. In 2003, I discovered coaching, got certified and opened my own business -- all after only 5 months of coaching! A few years later, I took the job as CEO for the Key Largo (Fla.) Chamber of Commerce. 

It was a fabulous run for seven years, but in 2012 I made another transition to focus on my own business and my lifelong passion -- helping people get what they want out of life.  

In 2016, I published a book titled, "The DIY Coaching Manual for Women: How to Transform Your Life in 12 Months." My next book will be called, "Please! Learn From My Mistakes!" :-)

LinkedIn just slapped my fingers and said that I may want to reconsider the language in my post. And there wasn't a single F word in the entire thing!

Being politically correct is one thing. Taking politically correct to extremes is an a$$ of a different color.

Leaving my home in the Florida Keys the first  time was so filled with busy-ness and excitement that I didn't have time for nostalgia.

Today, on  the 5th anniversary of the move, I have plenty for it.

It felt like I was leaving all over again as I bundled up 4 leaf bags of stuff to donate to the local abuse shelter.

Over the weekend, I washed load after load of sheets and pillowcases and throws and and bedspreads, intent on helping women rise up and thrive at whatever level they choose.

This fits seamlessly with the new direction of my coaching business -- the SheRises Network -- which focuses on helping women learn how to "adult." You know. All those things many of us had to learn the hard way. Like paying bills. Negotiating raises. Buying a car. 

We even plan a program on AI to help them recognize the value and the perils of artificial intelligence.

When these shelter residents are bold and  strong enough to move on with their  lives, I hope some will be able to use my Florida stuff I brought to Georgia.

 Stuff that I toted with me in one of those "Oh screw it...just throw everything that's left in a couple of boxes and get gone!" Situations everyone has  faced when moving house. 

There's some seriously good sh!t in those bags and I'm happy they will go to people who deserve a break.

For the second time in 5 years, I left my home

Don't let the fire  burn you out...let it motivate you. Keep going!

Sometimes the most important projects don’t start with a business plan.
 They start with a conversation.

 Or a young woman who’s overwhelmed.

 Or someone who didn’t know what “escrow” meant until they bought their first house.

It’s moments like these that remind me of something important:  We expect women to “be adult” without ever being taught how.

That’s one of the reasons I created SheRises Network.

For more than 20 years, I’ve coached women through career pivots, confidence rebuilding, leadership growth, and the practical life skills no one ever teaches — but everyone is expected to know.
Beginning in January 2026, SheRises will offer:

 • A supportive community where women feel heard and believed in

And while SheRises is deeply personal work, it’s also smart business.

💭 How to Train Your AI (Without Realizing You’re Doing It)

Most people don’t realize they’re training their AI every time they use it.
Every prompt to “make it warmer,” or “this is too formal,” or “add a little humor” teaches your AI assistant what works for you. 

Over time, it learns your tone, preferences, and quirks—just like a human collaborator would.  But it will still keep the conversation going until (a) it drives  you up the wall but most importantly,  (b) sounds like you, using your voice and ideas and thoughts and logic (or lack thereof) and emotions. 

Instead of  putting the  blame  on AI for crappy content, look at at the input YOU are providing. The more detail you can give about what you want,  the better the results. 

When AI “gets it wrong,” it’s not proof that AI doesn’t work. It’s a sign that 
the conversation isn’t finished yet. Keep talking! Good writing takes time,even with AI.

 So if your AI’s output feels off, don’t give up. Treat it like a colleague in training: give feedback, be specific, and keep the dialogue going until the result rings true. In  YOUR voice, not a machine  voice.

Well, the Key Dynamics HR Department is at it again. Or not, as the case may be.

Sunday night I wrenched my knee trying to hold a 20-pound cat, juggle a plate of cat food and keep the neighbor's cat from trying to sneak across the border. 

Since The Incident, the HR Department  (my body) has been hearing all kinds of complaints from departments previously too busy doing their jobs to kick  up a fuss. 

That has changed.

Now, ALL are demanding special compensation for their exceptional work in keeping me miraculously upright. 

The knee wants an ice pack, refreshed every 30 minutes. The legs demand pillows for elevation. The muscles tying my knee to ankle are furious at the lack of recognition and are making their ire known by thrumming like a  banjo gone crazy.

The rest of the body is saying, "Please. I hurt. Just let me take a sick day to recover."

In response, before going to lunch, the HR lead told the staff, "Take some  ibuprofen -- you'll have to use your own because we are not a drug  dispensary.
 
"The rest of you slackers -- get back to work.  Cat-herding is not a covered condition under your health insurance policy.  Having cats is a pre-existing condition and you all should have been better prepared for this eventuality. 

"Good luck, and we better see you bright and early for your morning shift. Remember, dying is not an excused absence, and your wages will be docked in your final paycheck if you call in deceased."

Do you know anyone who just sits around waiting... To be recognized. Included.  To get flowers on special occasions.. To get exactly the gift they want for their birthday.

Or a raise. A promotion. A better assignment. A company car. Better benefits. Subsidized child care.

Whatever.

I'm not saying that just because you ask, you'll get what you want. What I am saying that people are not mind readers.

Be your own best advocate. Ask for what you want. The reaction you get to your request will be tell you volumes.

"If this is Google," hang  up right  now."

That was how my friend ended her outgoing phone message. It made me  laugh  because it sounds exactly like her...and made me think:

When it comes to phone mesages, I rarely even get there. If someone calls without telling me who they are via caller ID,  I just don't answer. I figure if it's important  enough, they'll leave a message. 

Ask me how many messages I get from anonymous phone calls. 


When it comes to emails, it's a different story. They barge into your inbox as if they belonged  there. 

What are the telltale signs in your inbox that tell you someone wants something -- time or money -- from you?

For me, it's "Quick question" or "Can we jump on a call?" or "Save  up to 50% off!" or "Offer ends tonight"  or  the  always helpful "no subject" subject line.

Great thread here on the role of education as it relates to workforce readiness.
I love seeing that kind of discussion....because I have heard  from women of all  ages that one of their biggest challenges after school was learning how to "adult."

As  my friend Moxie says, until we help them learn how to be adults, they will struggle. And the delay costs them years of confidence, stability, and career momentum.
