I spent 12 years of my life doing crime. 
 
This is what my life looked like before prison: 
 
- Wake up 
- Sell drugs 
- Run away from police 
- Look over my shoulder every 5 steps 
- Stand around doing nothing 
- Waste money on nonsense 
- Repeat 
 
It was getting tiring. I knew I had to stop. 
 
So in 2021 I: 
 
- Bought a laptop 
- Started meditating 
- Started learning new skills 
- Surrounded myself with new people 
- Opened up to new experiences 
- Took some time out for myself 
- Started educating myself 
 
Was it a tough choice? Of course. But it was one I had to make.  
 
When your future's on the line, tough decisions need to be made. 
 
Like I always say:  
Easy choices → hard life.  
Hard choices → easy life. 
 
Your future rests in your hands.

I'm a 29 year old prison leaver. 
 
 I was lucky enough to escape a life of crime 
 
Since 2021 I've:  
 
- Learnt new skills 
- Got my first ever job 
- Joined a Crypto startup 
- Moved out of my hometown 
- Moved back to my hometown (lol) 
- Started building my personal Brand 
- Went Viral on LinkedIn a couple of times 
- Walked into rooms I never thought I would 
- Been back to the prison I left to give a talk 
 
and a whole lot more I can't remember.  
 
Tbh, I still think I got lucky. I could have easily ended up back in prison or worse... dead. 
 
Now, I get the chance to try and help others do the same.  
 
I might seem 'special' to you, but trust me I'm not. 
 
I'm just a normal guy from Ladywood who wanted more for his life. 
 
So here's to the last 3 years and the many more to come.

It hurts me to say this.  
 
But it's the truth.  
 
I virtually wasted half of my life. 
 
Between 14 - 18 I: 
 
- chased women 
- drunk alcohol every other day 
- brought trouble to my mom's front door 
 
And to tell you the truth, that wasn't even the worst part. 
 
As time went on, my behaviour got worse.  
 
At 17 I ended up in jail for the first time. 
At 18 was knee-deep in crime. 
And at 21 I was back inside.  
 
Trust me when I say, it was a crazy childhood. 
 
But in 2022 enough was enough.  
 
I was tired of the life I was living.  
I was tired of running from police. 
It was time to make a change. 
 
So I:  
 
- Stopped crime altogether. 
- Distanced myself from my friends. 
- And started working toward a new life. 
 
It was the best decision I ever made.  
 
There will come a time in your life when you begin to question your entire existence.  
 
Part of me wishes it happened sooner. But I guess everything happens for a reason.  
 
If you've hit a point in your life where you've had enough, then do what I did.  
 
Quit.  
 
Life is all about evolving.  
 
That means you have to make decisions without 100% certainty. 
 
If I can do it, then so can you. 
 
Yes, it's scary.  
Yes, it feels uncertain. 
 
But in the end, it'll be worth it. 

March 16th is a day I'll never forget.  
 
It's the day I lost my freedom.  
 
But it was also the day I realised something important.  
 
I grew up in an area filled with poverty and fueled by crime. 
 
But can you blame us? 
 
There were times there was no: 
 
- electricity 
- hot water 
- or food 
 
All the basic things you needed for survival were sometimes non-existent.  
 
So we did what we had to do to keep ourselves afloat.  
 
Circumstances forced a lot of us together.  
 
But when circumstances change so do people. 
 
My Dad told me this would happen but I thought he was lying.  
 
March 16th might be the day I lost my freedom, but it's also the day I realised who was in my corner.  
 
When things are going good everybody wants to be your friend. 
 
But when sh*t hits the fan people begin to disappear. 
 
Only the real ones stay in your corner. 
 
That day I realised you don't need a lot of friends.  
 
Only a few good ones.

And let me tell you this.  
 
It hasn't been easy.  
 
On numerous occasions, I've: 
 
- questioned my ability 
- doubted my future 
- wanted to quit 
 
Even though I'd been to prison.  
 
I knew nothing about the Criminal Justice System.  
 
But then I came to realise that this is how starting anything new is going to feel.  
 
You'll have days where you feel on top of the world.  
 
Then you're going to have days where you feel like the walls are crumbling down.  
 
But yet, I'm still here:  
 
- figuring shit out 
- manoeuvring life 
- learning as I go 
 
Anything new you do will never feel like a walk in the park. 
 
You're always going to have teething problems.  
 
And that's fine. It's part of the game.  
 
It's okay to feel like an imposter from time to time.  
 
The next time you feel out of your depth, remember this.  
 
A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.

Was it an easy one? No. 
But was it the right one? Of course.

Today's situation doesn't have to be tomorrow's reality.  
 
There's more to life than you think. 
 
All you have to do is take a chance.

In 2014 the Maricopa Foundation blew up their fundraising efforts by doing one thing. 
 
Here's how it went down: 
 
Every year the Maricopa Health Foundation throws its inaugural Copa Ball to raise funds for the hospital. 
 
But the year before things didn't go so well. 
 
That year, they had doctors, physicians and medical staff take to the stage to talk about their work. 
 
But they fell short of their intended target. 
 
So when 2014 came around there was a lot of worry. Something had to change 
 
They knew they had to close the gap between potential donors and the hospital. 
 
So do you know what they did? They used stories to bridge the gap.  
 
They replaced credibility -> with the stories. 
 
Three different speakers took to the stage that night telling three different stories.  
 
That night, logic and facts were nowhere to be found. 
 
And do you know what happened?  
 
When they tallied up the donations, they didn't only beat last year's target. They more than doubled it.  
 
Sometimes using logic and facts sounds like the right thing to do.  
 
But logic and facts don't have the long-lasting impact that stories do. 
 
The next time you want to bridge a gap in your business don't lead with logic.  
 
Lead with stories instead. 
 
Because stories capture the heart in a way logic can't.
